I do agree that many newbies are scared away from TASing to a serious extent due to the time and dedication needed but I can still think of several SHORT games that could probably be TASed by anyone. The main problem is, as many people have mentioned, no one will notice these games because quiet often they are of little popularity (For example, a TAS of Mr. Chins Gourmet Paradise would be crap easy to do, half the movie would probably end up being next stage screens anyway). But yeah, basically, the main reason many people are scared off of making new TASes is simply because of the dedication needed and that if they do make new TASes they will do games that no one has heard of and they basically get discouraged by it. =P Anyone can feel free to correct me but this is simply my impression of it all.

I wonder if TASing could be introduced to newbies by the means of lessons with predetermined goals ― such as "first challenge: reach the underground pipe in Super Mario Bros 1-1 with 380 in the clock"…

I don't know if it would work, not many would see the productivity of it though if combined with a 1-2-3 step guide to TASing I think it could turn out quite well.

That's a beautiful example of the Poisson distribution in practice.
