Looks good! :) One question -- what was the purpose of all the falling right at the start?

It's the fastest place to lose lives before the deathwarp back to water town after the second dungeon. My friend found that you can kill yourself right after you beat the prologue boss and not lose any frames, so in the final run there'll be one less suicide in lab 1. There are other rooms in the first two labyrinths where killing yourself to go back to the entrance can save time, probably, but I wasn't really thinking about that at the time lol

Hello there! Seeing as cetaka has stopped working on Shantae, I have decided to take it upon myself to finish his work. Link to video Going up to the end of the first labyrinth. 12 seconds were saved in the Tinkerbat Ship fight due to the newly discovered Crouch Transition Hit, which lets Shantae 1 round the first phase for the first time. More minor timesaves were made in the first labyrinth, thanks to some discovered deathwarping abuse the RTA runners found. Link to video There's even a guy working on a 100% run! Anyway, if there are any tricks you think would be neat to know, I set up a game resource page right here: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/GBx/Shantae.html

zomgwhatmeworkingonaprojectcrazy Link to video Golem Mine. Not much to say about this one. I die in the King Golem fight so I can deathwarp later. Also, there's going to be a 90 second wait due to waiting for the day/night transition. What do you guys what to see for it? I was thinking some gigantic dancing sequence, but that might be too boring.

Well, that sure was a boss fight. I like your use of dances/posing during the momentary waits. 90 seconds seems like an awfully long time. Is there time enough to go grab the Monkey Claw ability? Or failing that, to grind money for something that would save time down the road? I don't object to the concept of a long dance sequence, but 90 seconds is pretty huge.

Turn Shantae into a rhythm game. One input per note in the song!

Cetaka tested a while ago. It takes too long unfortunately.

I'd vote for doing the time wasting in Archer's Forest; it's a location that won't be seen in the any% TAS otherwise - there's no reason whatsoever to approach Mount Pointy from any direction other than Oasis Town since you'd need Harpy Form to get up that way, and it's only fireflies and a heart holder in Archer's Forest. EDIT: Plus showing off Archer's Forest will also show off the fact that you can't get to the Zombie Caravan during the daytime for those unfamiliar with the game/never got past Labyrinth 2.

That certainly would be neat, but unfortunately that would mean going through an extra loading zone, which would waste about a second or so. I'd rather not prolong the waiting period further.

It's too bad we can't set Zombie Forest as our deathwarp destination before heading out to Oasis Town and still be on target. Short of (getting the Dribble Fountain squids) + (running to the Zombie Forest save man) + (getting to Oasis Town on foot from Water Town) taking less than 90 seconds, it wouldn't be worth it. EDIT: No, even then it wouldn't be worth it because then we'd have to get the Golem Mine squids and bring them back to Oasis Town. Any time saved by my plan would be lost right there.

If only there was some random TASer who could work on this. ....wait.

I didn't really mess with it, no. Seemed random getting it to work. Plus, it probably would only save, at most, a few frames since you still need to grab all those treasure chests in the third Labyrinth.

Link to video Minor trick I found a few months back. Could save a few frames. You basically press down a frame before you start falling, while standing still.

Can anyone tell me about Shantae's debug mode? I am really confused by the debug mode in this game.

That helps but what do the codes in the map selection mean? I cannot tell heads or tails of the world locations.

Link to video Cracked the invincibility glitch from a while ago. Basically jump at a specific angle into a cactus and it activates. It's useless for any%, but might be useful for 100%.

I glitch hunted for a bit but didn't find anything (apart from a ledge clip on some of the wooden structures at the beginning that doesn't work anywhere else, and pausing on the last frame before gameover which makes the fade effect a red color instead of black). I would be interested to play around with the OoB area, if someone can give me a savestate or vbm.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/25133390143383472 this is done on Bizhawk, btw. Luckily debug mode is a thing. Just hit select + A to have Shantae land from flying, then you can just transform into the Harpy and test around.
