An AI for hex would be very cool. moozooh very nice with the 14-0, but you said 5x riftgate and there are only 3. My opinion of the game is it is very good especially considering made by one person. Although I liked the spell card system, I would have liked if there were more types of effects you could use on enemies in battle, after a while every battle seemed the same to me, do damage, heal do damage heal, etc.

Thanks DarkKobold for letting me know about this game. I really loved playing through this game. The game was much better than I expected it to be. I must say this is one of the best rpg games I've played. The story was good. The battle system was good. The bosses were challenging. The mini-game was fun. I have now collected all the hex-tiles but not yet tried the final challenge. Will do it now. Ok just tried it and wow, I stood no chance against it. I rate this game 5/5.

A brain fart of my part, sorry. 1x Hilbert, 1x Randolph, 1x Pollux, 1x Nether Beasts, and 3x Riftgate. Not the strongest set, but quite overwhelming compared to any other NPC player. I play Hex very agressively, so having tiles like Riftgate and 9/10 level tiles that attack in 4+ directions helps a lot to capture more than one tile each turn. In fact, I believe Riftgate (3/3) to be more effective than Vivione (3/4), because you can't capture a Vivione with a Vivione back in one turn. Too bad you have to give up using level 9 & 10 tiles in order to have some challenge from Hex play, because by the time you can play Saraswati in Randipur you'll be using levels 8-10 tiles exclusively, and even all-8 hand is way stronger than anything she can come up with.

Does anyone have any ideas what to do? So far I was able to lower Alexander's HP to about 90k out of 200k, but that's the limit of what I've achieved so far.
Quick answer: Ihad 2 characters faster than alexander: Hilbert and Lorenza. (There is a dress w/ +100 speed. If lionheart killed either, I could reserect Matilida (w/ Party Hat) before he had another turn. This made sure the next round hit her, and he always uses a weaker attack on the turn after. Thorve was simply a support character. Everyone but matilda had revive, x-shield, and enlight. Thorve haed boost for matilda. Matilda does all the damage, using dual strike. Also, there is a FAQ floating around with all Hex locations.

When I fought alexander my whole party was faster than him. I used Hilbert, Zawu, Ethan and Matilda. Each member had a special role. Hilbert was the tank. His spellcards all gave him +Vit and used the King's Armor and Party Hat. All he did was defending/stancing and casted Invincibility occasionally blocking lionheart completely. If lionheart was not blocked he still survived the first attack but not the second so I only had to revive one character. Zawu was the fastest member. She was the reviver and healer. She had the spellcards: Revive, Full heal, Enlight and chi. She placed Enlight on the party and just healed / revived when it was useful. Ethan used Defensive buffs and placed regen on the party. Matilda was the damage dealer. Just buffed her str and used normal attacks. It took a while to beat him but this strategy was safe. I was not in trouble once while fighting him. My party was around lvl 90 when I did it.

That's pretty helpful, thanks. I was considering adding Zawu to the party but I've gotten used to Thorve as a magic damage dealer (he could cast Vortex and Gamma for half the mana cost, dealing ~6k damage per turn on average, and cast Nuke twice without replenishing mana pool). I guess I'll have to play a newgame+ in order to reform the party and manage the capsules better. One question, though.

What did you do to replenish mana when your characters were running out of it? I guess using sacred orbs, but unfortunately I only have one on my main save (wasn't expecting a fight this tough in the end).

Using enlight was enough I think. I don't think I used any sacred orbs. I maybe used some serpent eyes but enlight gave me almost infinite mana. Zawu wore the item that halves manacost too.

Thanks for posting this, it's a great RPG with an immersive story that makes me want to play to find out what happens. I also like the characters, especially Matilda. It has a lot of challenge, perhaps a little too much to be honest (and I haven't even finished the game yet). *spoilers ahead* Some of the later bosses are complete bastards. From the first encounter with Flynn and onward, the game starts rapidly kicking you in the balls and doesn't let up. Even the enemies often deal half your HP in damage with a normal attack. The fight with the fire dragon is just mean, almost ensuring your doom unless you happened to have unequipped the Fire Amulet and Primal Ward (?) from your other party members before going into the prison. The second battle with Castor was even worse, and one of my most frustrating main storyline boss encounters since the demon wall in FF IV. What's worse is if you didn't stock up on softs (like me) or Talismans you're pretty much screwed since he loves petrifying people. You need to kill him quickly, which isn't going to happen since he has 15000 HP. After a dozen or so tries I finally BARELY beat him, and I had to pull out all the stops, including several Rages, Quad Strikes, almost all my offensive items (the good ones, too...like Holy/Unholy Water), and I even had to Raid him for his Meteor Shell so I could use it on him. The next battle (Castor's Omega team...basically this game's version of the Turks) isn't looking any prettier either.

My advice: go to the nearest crystal and grind a level or two while using tents every time you run out of health and mana. Just one level does make a difference in this game, which becomes hilariously noticeable as you approach level 90 or so. Bosses of one level with you usually don't stand a chance. As for the Omega team, aim for Helio first, he's the most annoying of them all.

There is only one boss battle that I found harder than the Omega Team. There are 6 whirlwind thingies that can revive and heal each other. That fight took me more tries than Alexander. Wow, that's strange...I beat them on my first try, although it did take an eternity for their MP to run out. I wish I had known what I was up against, I could've saved a few precious items and sped up the process with Mindblow. That battle does rely on some luck though, as they technically could decide to all rape one character with Gaia's Roots, which will kill him/her even with halved damage. I did manage to get past the Omega team battle (although barely...it actually got harder after I had killed Flynn because my team didn't have that much more left in them). On to the next colossal jackass: Tiamat. All I have to say is thank god she takes 2500 damage from Holy.

OK guys, I'm done programming the game itself, and I'd like some input (more precisely, I'd like some testers to make sure there's no horrible bug :)) I'm aware that the interface is rather ugly for now, and that the AI thing isn't programmed yet. Basically, it's just the game, except that you control both players. I've only entered a few different tiles but that should be enough to begin with. Try it out here. Brutal Strike on any two physical damage dealers, Rage or Vortex and Heal on your caster of choice, other buffs on the rest. All the later bosses don't stand a chance against Brutal Strike since it easily takes about 2000—3000 damage from one character each turn. Rage does about 2000—3000 damage as well, and ignores magical defense. Vortex does about 3500—7500 when there's no resistance/immunity, and is in that case awesome as well.

My party was around lvl 90 when I did it. Thanks for this strategy, I had no clue that vitality buffs could add up like that and really make a difference. One time he used Lionheart and Hilbert actually survived it, which I thought was impossible. I pretty much used the strategy you used, except with Randolph in the place of Ethan, and I used him to Nuke/Gamma Alexander when he had the chance. I barely managed to beat him after what seemed like an eternity, despite getting unlucky and never blocking Lionheart with Invincibility (ironically enough, his attacks usually missed when Invincibility was on). Thankfully I only had to use a few Serpent Eyes, a few Healing Orbs, and the Sacred Orb I stole from him. Seeing the extra challenge, which has *more spoilers* 5 times Alexander's HP AND revivable helpers...absolutely insane. I second the request of a video of someone taking this boss down.

Phew, I'm finally done with this game... I stopped working on my hex solver to progress faster and I think I did well as I found the later hex games to be easier. I also beat Alexander (I don't remember fighting such a hard boss in other old-school RPGs!). However, when I faced the extra challenge, I tried to imagine how many capsules I'd have to steal and how many new games + I'd have to start. I concluded that I might beat it in ~20 years, so I sped things up a little by cheating...! I usually don't but I don't want to spend 20% of my life playing a game, no matter how good it is! ...and THAT was a good game!! If the author comes up with another game, I'll move aside anything I'll be playing by then to play it. Best things in life are free... Last Scenario and Doukutsu Monogatari are two very good examples of this!

Spoiler (highlight to see): Nah, actually, you just get a unique item called "Sign of eternity", and that's it... When you move your cursor over it in your inventory, it says something like "Mark of a true hero". I haven't noticed any message or event other than this...

I tried cave story on your sorta suggestion. It was a really good game. I loved the machine gun. People are really obsessed with it, which I don't get.

Obsessed with the game or with the machine gun? :) Well, the machine gun makes you fly, which is kinda cool, and the game's gameplay is probably what makes people like it that much. Although the game's many secrets may have something to do with it. Did you get the spur, bubbler and nemesis? Have you seen all three endings? It's pretty difficult to make it to the 'best' ending, but it's all worth it.

Bumpin' time! Just a few days ago came out Exit Fate, by the same guy who made the awesomeness that is Last Scenario. I haven't played it yet but even if it's just half as good as Last Scenario, it's goona end up in my personal favorites...

I tested exit fate some hours and that's very nice... lot of hardwork behind this the new bride system is very interresting to avoid annoying enemy. Thought in this game money is hard to find. edit :I don't really like how the hero will set up his decision(highlight to see), about the situation, but game is very nice and I love it.

I don't really like how you decide to spoil plot twists in the second post about the game. Seriously. RPGs are about the most plot-heavy genre of games period, and it's not good to do such a thing without any notification whatsoever.
