Yeah, it's about as close to perfect as you can get, speaking from someone who played the HELL out of this game as a kid. You grabbed all the essential items for a quick run (speed shoes early) and ditched all the ones which were useless. There may be room for seconds worth of improvement due to the janky underwater areas, but nothing worth killing yourself over. Great job!

Thanks Virulent. Yes, im aware off the "rooms". They can be improved but since I had such problems with the recording (don´t know why but Famtasia seemed to forget about keypresses sometimes, caused me to "miss" a ladder at the end etc..) I just wasn´t in the mood for perfecting it right then. I think it´s possible to save about 10 seconds or something if I perfect all "rooms". Thanks anyways ;P I was kinda satisfied.

That was so damn cool :) When I saw some areas I was like "OMG O_O" because I hadn't been/seen the areas for 10 years even :D Great work~ I thought it would take 30-45mins to finish this game. Förresten jag är oxå svensk ;)

Just checked the new version of my run. Im satisfied and all but there is a mistake in the very beginning of the movie. It says "play length 17:52" which was my old version, and also "re-records 1480" which now is 784. It´s still the improved version but it might be confusing with these errors?

Oops, sorry. Might have forgot to regenerate the subtitles file.

*ponders how they let a loli-bait topless mermaid slip by...* Nintendo was pretty strict back then. You'd think even barbiedoll nudity woulda squicked them out. o_o

The same way they let hitler's face (and subsequent explosion) slip by in Bionic Commando: they're human beings, and they don't always check everything to the fullest extent. Sometimes people make mistakes. *shrug*

Time to revive this thread. I've been working on an improved version of The Goonies II, but my hard drive went boom... I was about halfway in the game, and about 15-20 (if not more) faster than the existing Timeattack... I'll start redoing it tonight!

Well, when it starts loading Windows XP (with the logo on the screen), the computer restarts. Back on the loading screen, it resets again, etc. I tried to put it as a slave, I tried to load it from my USB drive box: nothing works.

Sounds recoverable.

I hope so, I had about 7 unfinished Timeattacks on that drive: Bucky O'Hare, King's Quest 5, Gimmick!, The Goonies II, and some others...

Did you discover something new or is it just optimizations? ;) I haven't played this game for a long time but maybe it's time again.

FozzBozz, but into safe mode if you can (hit F8 during after POST), then open a command window and run this command: chkdsk /r /x It'll say that it cannot lock the drive and ask if you want to scan next boot up, say yes. then type shutdown /r /t 00 Then let it boot and scan your disk. Then if it boots up place your XP CD in the tray and open up a command window and type: sfc /purgecache Then sfc /scannow if the a windows doesn't pop up. This is a best case scenario though.

Hmmm, it was basically optimisations (tons of them!! Both in "First person exploration" and Equipment Menu), but I found some other tricks. One of them is killing "2 hits" enemies with one hit (assuming you're using the yoyo, I haven't tried with the harpoon yet). Doesn't make things faster, but cool to watch. Entering doors is like climbing a ladder: you don't have to be right in the middle to activate (open) it. By heart, that's what I remember... If I remember what else I found, I'll post them. Edit: Thanks OmnipotentEntity! I'll try that!

I was sort of aware that the run was improvable, mostly in the first person view but lately I haven't had that much time to start this over again. Oh well, good luck in the meantime. I'll try to improve it further some day.

Wow, I'm really starting to like frameadvance... Not only for the "first-person" mode, but for ladders, using monsters for speed boosts, etc. I'm working with 2 movies at the same time: One as my first try, and the other trying to beat that first try. That way, I can work on a list with my improvements and errors... And trust me, ladders=errors...

2 years between my two posts... Does that count as double posting...? Anyway, I had some free time, and I tried to beat Randil's current Goonies II TAS. So far, I'm 197 frames ahead at the 2nd goonie. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/721412121/Goonies%20II%2C%20The%20%28U%29%20DJ%20FozzBozz.fcm

It looks really good! The "using death as a shortcut" trick blew my mind, I never considered you could do that, so thumbs up for that. Overall, it seemed really optimized, so I can't complain about anything. ;) I'm curious though, how much faster do you think this will be when it's finished? 15-20 seconds? Perhaps you should keep it secret, it will be more of a surprise when it's done. :) If you need any RAM-addresses, I have a few, such as X-position and current HP and some other basic stuff. I'm looking forward to the next update. It's about time someone tries to obsolete my old run. ;)

*bump* Has there been any more progress made on this? We haven't heard anything for over a month now... I hope you haven't cancelled this, since the WIP looked really promising.

Not canceled, but my free time is pretty much inexistent... Right now I can't access my run, since I'm at my girlfriend's house... By the way, I found a way to save even more frames in the WIP I posted.
