This is the third game about ghostbusters released on the NES in 1992.
It has a very nice gameplay and music, so I've decided to make this speedrun.
The game is not hard, but has a lot of fun ;-)

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUx 2.0.2
  • Aims for fastest time

Comments

In this game you choose two characters and control them both simultaneously.
Use D-pad to move the first person, press "A" to stop ghosts with your proton beam,
then press "B" in appropriate moments to catch them by the second ghostbuster.
Unfortunately, he has incredibly stupid AI, and it's hard to make him move in desired direction.
Often it's not so easy to determine in which order do you have to catch ghosts (if you are planning to save time, of course).
Each game level consists of separate rooms, so it simplifies TASing a lot because you can focus attention on each scene independently of one another.
But sometimes improvements in one room produce more complicated arrangement of ghosts in another.
!The objects of speedrun are:
  1. Walk away from the room entrance. (it locks all the doors and brings ghosts to appear)
  2. Move fast, but keep watching over the ghostbuster with a trap if he is still running at the shortest way.
  3. Stop ghosts only when you're sure, that you can catch them within a minimal period of time.
There is an exception, when you must catch one ghost from nonoptimal position (at first sight) just to get closer to the next ghost, that will appear after defeating of the previous one.
You cannot proceed to the next room until you catch all the ghosts (except the ones driving tubs at level 2), thus you have to work out your strategy properly.

More details:

The characters in this game can only move in 4 directions (minimal step equals 1/2 of their bodies, moreover your helper is absolutely out of control)
and produce 2 different sounds, therefore I don't think this video can be more entertaining.
However, I can try to explain every movement I've made if it seems strange to you :)
I have not found any useful glitches at all...

Huh, Satoru Iwata was involved in this title. Kewl. Generally tight and looks well executed, but often there seemed to be superfluous motions. I'm assuming these were to manipulate enemy and helper positions? Overall, I enjoyed it. Interesting that there's *two* licensed games based on this movie. Was the first one not good enough?

I thought this was an interesting-looking and unique game, and it seemed to be played well though it looks like the sort of game that can be hard to optimize completely. It was on the long side, but it held my attention. (I watched the canceled longer version, which I assume is the same as this one but with the credits, right?) Nice first submission. 7|7

The other Ghostbusters 2 is a very boring game to me. This one at least looks fun to play, and I think I might just give it a try soon. I gave this a 8/6. Nice job. EDIT: Upon watching it all the way through, I changed my vote to a 9.5/7. This one even has a final boss fight against Vigo! I feel this game is far superior to the other NES Ghostbusters 2 game in just about every way. Very nice job.

Yes, that's right. I've already wrote, that helper moves on his own. He is out of control, so I had planty of rerecordings just to bring him closer to enemies or even simply to force him to go in right direction. Actually, I tried to optimize every single frame, and I think, there's impossible to get better time on many of scenes.However, I'm sure there are some scenes that can be optimized yet (especially at the sewer and at the museum of course) but it seems to be sort of difficult. alden wrote:

Absoutely agreed. The original ghostbusters and ghostbusters 2 are horrible and the AVGN have already prooved it :D

Ah... I searched for this game a long time, but could never find it (probably didn't look hard enough, but the "new" at the beginning was probably the reason I couldn't find it). I played this game a long time ago, and it was quite enjoyable... it has some nice music. I haven't rated the movie yet, maybe I'll do that later, but it gets a yes for publication from me, for what it's worth.
