hi, first post here. i've been trying to use Snes9X v1.43+ v10 to make a TAS movie of this game. my first attempt at a TAS actually. i was kicking ass with it, and after several hours and about 75% through the game i thought i'd try playing back what i have so far. TONS of desync!! i was pretty disappointed. i tried toying with audio settings and all kinds of things, but it would always desync about a quarter of the way through the very first round. i thought i'd try the latest ZSNES instead, but i ran into the same issue. a ton of desync. is this game just a lost cause for a TAS? i wouldn't think so becuase i found a TAS of it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyXKGT0llzY it looks perfect. any ideas, guys?

It desynced on me. I believe this game needs the same movie settings as MKII had. They were: Use WIP1 Timing, Fake Mute desync workaround, and Sync samples with sound CPU (you might as well check Allow Left+Right / Up+Down since it may help you with certain combos; you can still walk forward while tapping back for characters special moves!). Don't use Volume Envelope Height Reading because it makes certain games desync like crazy, ones just like this one.
check the Mortal Kombat thread for more info.

nevermind, i got it! i did a run in 11:45 on the master tower. i could have done it way better, but again this was my first try... tomorrow i'm going to give it another shot i know i can do way better than that. i used the unmasked subzero for the run... i can probably do faster with chars like shang tsung, kung lao, nightwolf, or kabal. i'll upload the run soon if anybody cares to see it.

can't you use shang tsung? or the cheat code for randper kombat?

Unless you use the cheat menu for Randper Kombat, Kombat Kodes can only be used in two-player mode. I'd just go with Shang Tsung, personally.

i dont like randper. i prefer the ability to use whoever whanever i want instead of totally random. so tomorrow, i'll try that out and see what happens! heres a video of it, in two parts (darnit youtube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMMLpqN1xUA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67JvyCDB6eY please remember i'm just beginning to get into TAS runs, so it's not amazingly impressive. :)

If that is a TAS on YouTube, then you should clearly mark it as such in the description (and ideally in the encode as well).

Ok, my two cents after watching half of it. It's boring. Did the snes not already have a shapeshifter? Use him, otherwise there's nothing you can do about this. Weren't there multiple fatalities in the snes? Furthermore, in a TAS it's basically not accepted to fail at anything because you can always rewind and try again. In this movie you often jump away from the enemy for no other reason than to avoid something. Change tactics so you don't have to. Never let the opponent block you (unless game mechanics force you, and even then, find another way). It looks silly because you're doing a TAS. One more thing, I think you failed a fatality once. If that is the case you may not have gotten the point of what a TAS is supposed to be. I mean this in the nicest constructive way I can think of! :)

It's boring. Speed isn't the issue in versus fighting TASs, it's variety. Show us every possible combo, glitch, etc. and of course no mistake. I agree with the Shang Tsung idea as well, be as innovative as possible.

I don't see what's the problem with the randper kombat via cheat menu.

Ok, just so you know that video wasn't too impressive, even if it wasn't TASed. I've played faster/better in realtime! Harsh sounding I know but still. There's some very nice looking combo vids out there showing off 100% combos. Perhaps with either Randper Kombat or Shang Tsung you could show off lots and lots of the different ones. Just a thought.

you guys are right, i know. i did it real quick because like i said it's my first try. now that i know i can get it done without any desyncs i will redo one and promise to make it sweet. i'll use randper or shang tsung and do interesting stuff + take no damage. gimme a few days, and i'll try to post something impressive. no offense taken to any criticism here cuz you're all right. it's boring.

hah, but that's just the way it goes... it takes some time to re-learn to play the game with tool-assistance.

Now, before you create a complete movie again. Maybe it's a good idea to post a wip, a work in progress, after the first fight. Put it on youtube please :p I think the recipe used in other MK movies was to use a different character for each match. But that's up to you :)

You might also want to watch some combo videos to get an idea of what stuff you could pull off in your run to make it interesting. Obviously try to avoid lame, repetitive infinities if possible, and to also showcase plenty of glitches. Personally, I think doing this properly would take at least weeks, which is why I was skeptical of your first WIP when you said you only worked on it for a few hours, and surely enough I was right. Anyway, good luck with your TASing pursuits :)

Using a non-morph character isn't a good idea. Because combos will be very limited. Use Shang Tsung, doing nice morph combos will be good, don't juggle a lot like me, this will be reduce the movie lenght and will give a chance for more variations in combos and more entertainment. Show some infinites are very good, but not so much like me sometimes, attention in the morph times to combo with infinites or morph to a great combo linking with another morph to do a cool fatality or a glitch... Be creative. :) There is my Randper TAS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U9v8euPqIQ If you want some tips in combos, just say and post WIPs for us. Good luck!

I really can't see a reason for a randper run not to be accepted. It uses a "cheat menu" to enable the switcheroo mode, but it doesn't grant any advantage to the player... many other games here tweak some settings in option menus trying to improve entertainment.

I'm sorry man... but this absolutely bored me to tears. I can't think of a single impressive part of this, let alone one that screamed "TAS". Then again, I may have been spoiled from watching Kombo Videos where they pull 100% combos and serious glitches of amusement out of every possible character.... I mean THOSE were entertainment! This was... well.. like someone playing on a normal SNES that has a reasonable amount of talent. Sorry... that's just how it comes off. [And seriously, no fiery pit fatalities? wtf?] Mr. Kelly R. hmm... miker00lz, I guess I know what's wrong. Judging by your slow speed at the menus... you're not using frame advance, am I right?
