The balance will be put in an interest bearing account to only be used for operational costs (monthly fees after the first year, domain registration, etc). The contributions so far have been awesome. I can't think you guys enough. TASVideos really needed some folks to step up in order to stay alive, and we came through. TASVideos is now secure for 1 year minimum.
Nice to see things are progressing rapidly. If it ever becomes a problem of finding donors, something like the Boardgamegeek -system could be put in place. They 'award' you a supporter badge for every year you donate something to the cause and afaik it has worked fairly well and at least in my opinion is relatively unintrusive.

A question: Currently Bisqwit can, rather obviously (being the private owner of the server computer), perform any kind of admin stuff he needs. For example, he could ban some vandal by ip (or redirect him somewhere else, or whatever), create special redirection rules, etc, etc. Will this kind of administration be possible with the new rented server?

Yes. We have full root access over every level of it, except for changing the Linux Kernel.

I'll gladly donate something in the future. I only just found this thread after seeing it in the IRC topic, and Atma told me this is not really a money issue in the first place, but I've seen it being mentioned and just want you to know that you can count me in should that ever come up again.

Migration of the two major parts of the site to that server has now been accomplished, as indicated by Nach's post here. Überthanks to Nach. The tracker is still here, and NesVideoAgent too, but that is relatively minor.

I'll try to write a replacement for NVA when I'm more awake. Till then, no edit announcements in the channel. Sorry about the inconvenience.

NVA Replacement rewritten. We should hopefully complete the rest of the site transfer this week.

The tracker has been moved as well, the IRC seems to be doing fine. I guess Bisqwit is now once more "free" again. I do have to say that I'm a little bit sad about him giving up his position, now that everything's transferred. Thanks a lot for building this site and keeping it alive for such a long time, a lot of websites have come and passed since it was born.

There was a 70% decrease in tracker traffic after the tracker was moved ― but for some reason, some 30% still remained using the old tracker. I have now shut down the old tracker. People who now receive errors are advised to restart their tracker software or flush its cache of DNS entries.

Thank you for the kind sentiment. I thank everyone who has made it possible, and wish the best to everyone who continues to do so.

I just found out that the oldest active user here is Bisqwit and more interestingly that the second-oldest is... ...our new overlord, Nach. (adelikat came along a few months later, probably still among the oldest 100 active users.)

Your join date is listed right under your avatar at the left of every post; it's not quite so simple to find out the order in which we joined though, that's what the "Memberlist" link at the top is for.
