Last night was an exciting evening :) I spoke with several developers and one of the head developer of Dolphin. They recommended me to create an issue on their google code website: http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/issues/detail?id=502&q=tas
When you normally ask a developer for a somewhat tedious feature to implement, you usually get the answer: "yeah, we'll see..". But these guys began discussing immediately with eachother how they are supposed make bulletproof rerecording, savestates etc. So I certainly think their intention and desire to give us essential tasing tools are there!
Anyway, the purpose of this thread was to give the google link so that those who are interested can follow any activity regarding our submitted issue. I will follow and read on a daily basis every revision they make.
I really do look forward to this. I wonder if the 4 MB/minute limit would still apply for those  I'm sure it would apply, but I guess we'll have to see how good they would look.
Issue 502 at the Dolphin google code is going off the rocker, quick.
If someone could help me explain better what we need from them, it might help expedite things.
They are currently talking about including controller inputs with avi/mkv!
Sage advice from a friend of Jim: So put your tinfoil hat back in the closet, open your eyes to the truth, and realize that the government is in fact causing austismal cancer with it's 9/11 fluoride vaccinations of your water supply.

DarkKobold, If you were the one who helped me explain a lot better at the wiki, then I am very thankful :P
Anyway, literally everyday, team dolphin is working their butt off to give us a stable emulator. Like they post an update for revision 2069, and two days later, I see 50-60 revisions created :D Determined, thats what they are.
<+nakee> AngerFist: why don't you guys get few programmers to join your team?
<shuffle2> yeah it would be easier if that tas group just sent emus their patches :p
<+nakee> AngerFist: actually if you had some nice portable framework that emus just had to plug into it would have been 10 times easier
<+nakee> like already have recording and convertion guis
<+nakee> and all the codec code and stuff
Can I/we address this? In meantime, know that we "have" a developer named JPeterson working to implement you know what :D
Wow. The Dolphin developers are doing a great job, and you are doing a great job at encouraging them too, it seems!
So now dolphin has recording. I guess that must mean that the emulation is deterministic too, then? Otherwise recording wouldn't work. What is the status on the savestates? Are they complete? I guess implementing rerecording is the best way of finding out.
Oh, and another thing: How long does it take to save/load a savestate in dolphin? It is hopefully nearer that needed for previous consoles than it is for a pc.

I think this is by far my most happiest day here at tasvideos :) This is absolutely huuuuuge! I bet the rerecording isn't robust and ready but it is there and that's what is important. I've asked Bisqwit to create an own game section for Gamecube/Wii so we can start discussing TASes ^_^

I like-a-da sound of that.
If it is just talking about runs, though, I don't think there is a problem.
Now, if we get all pumped and then something happens to get fucked up (leaving us without the emulator), then I would agree; it is premature ;)

I very much agree with this post.

I can't get it to run I downloaded the 64bit Windows version and got "not a valid Win32 application".
And then when I downloaded the 32bit version I get all these DLL plugin errors. I tried to load Twilight Princess (the Gc version) and Metroid Prime 3 into my CD drive but my computer doesn't seem to read them.

Check you have XP x64 edition or Windows Vista x64. Works for me.
For those interested, playback/recording functions are in the input plugin config:
Tooltip for Record Input:
Your recording will be saved to pad-record.bin in the Dolphin dir when you stop the game
Tooltip for Play back input:
Play back the pad-record.bin file from the Dolphin dir
Tooltip for Save recording:
This will save the current recording to pad-record.bin. Your rerecording will also be automatically saved every 60*10 frames. And when you shut down the game.
Sounds a bit clunky. You might want to give more input as the dev doesn't seem to fully understand the ease of use required (i.e perhaps hotkeys, direct writing to file rather than every so often, specified filenames for files)
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs
