I read somewhere that if you recruited every single ally from the game, you might have a better chance for a nice ending. This means talking to a lot of people, even some that will force you to run certain errands for them. If there is such thing as recruiting everyone to join your group (without missing one) and beating the game, how long can it take? Possibly hours. Oh, and sometimes the hero can get a head start on quick-leveling up to 40, once he gets settled in Viktor's Mercenary Fortress. From there, he should be able to break through the Muse-Matilda border and defeat a hard boss for Futch and Humphrey. After that, maybe he can continue his adventure starting with Toto village burned down. Whether minimal (fastest time) or 100%, I am sure there is a lot to talk about!

I did a test TAS thingy up to the Mist Monster (yeah, that far huh). Honestly because the Friendship/whateveritiscalled Rune bug is so important unless you level/sharpen like hell, not much other strategy needs to be considered, except up until the point you can get the rune. Which is unfortunate.

Even though I love this game, I fear the TAS would be 8 hours at the very least. Are you sure you're willing to undertake that?

Eh, people were foaming at the mouth over FFVII, so why not Suikoden II? Though I'd prefer the first game, in either event.
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

if you get all the 108 characther before liberation of mathilda.. and you choose something like "Nanami!!" (you have few second to choose it correctly).. then Nanami wont die :) Then to get the good ending... just kill jowy and refuse to steal his rune... and lekneat will appear. After you get the good end and Shu will talk you about Nanami, etc.. The glitch about matilda border is really badass.. if you get there you can get levelup one characther at 70-99 level with this technic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPWKaK-uuEM I was also wondering about to do my own tas suikoden game.. but I wont be able with my time schedule, now.. I was aiming for something like that: -Aiming for faster time -Get all 108 charathers -Do not abuse of error game(and of course no matilda trick) -Manipulate luck But i was wondering if it could be possible to manipulate luck for never get any critical hit... So start over from previous savestate for every battle run(and tactical war) to avoid using a critical hit!?(or enemy missing you) Just to get a TAS RPG "realistic" !!???? As Kles said... this game could be done terribly quickly with abusing error and other and as Fan of suikoden series, im not sure to want see a video made from 80% text scrolling; 15% travel and 5% battle ;-)

And that is why I said "Recruits: 100%" :-P

Now, if there was a fastest-time aim, that means getting only the recruits well-suitable for defeating the Beast Rune at L'Renouille and nothing but survival. If I predict, game could be beat in 4 to 6 hours.

ok, are you including optionnal character.. like the mukumuku familly (in fact i think, it's the only optionnal, if you aim to get the 108 "star")

oh yeah, you get a lot attack bonus by recruit you get... if i remember.. should be a good one. To get easy money, i remember that we could make a lot with the trading post.. i remember that we could get the ancient text from kobold village and sell them in forest village.. and we win something like 20 000 potch by item or something... there is probably some better item to sell tought.

I'm not talking about the Rune that adds attack per recruit; I'm talking about the other one that adds by 'friendship value'. If you make the friendship value negative (by killing them in combat) it overflows and adds ridiculous amounts to their attack. You can read more about this on GameFAQs.

oh ok.. thanks i get it, the name is the kindness rune .. and if your using the matilda trick you even go to lakewest and get this rune, just before giving your argreement to tai ho for the boat travel. (the kobold side from 2river should is open.) Note: dont keep humphrey or futch in your party, just before talking to tai ho for travel... else the will crash, i already tested ;-D ) -- i also find out a bug, while testing the maltda trick(i'm still unsure, it still posible that i did something else wrong), some month ago. In fact if i'm using matilda trick, then some new recruit(like hoi, georg, L.C. Chan, persmergea, mazus, and maybe other) will already get the 99level, when they join us....

hi, finally i have start to test some speedruns... (108 characther and do not abuse error) ==> http://www.megavideo.com/?v=Z0GD5MJJ (at the 10sec of the end, it dint load the correct savestate) I'm still a noob to encode video, but next one should be better So, next part... get the flour, evade with jowy, meet people, go to sparrow pass and try to get some "double beat" rune and maybe a celadon urn, defeat mist boss. Go to kyaro town, get mukumuku, nanami, etc

hey your round is very nice! do you still have the .pxm? i would like to see how you can "block the ennemy like marioRPG(and other)" you just press X on right time? I dint even know how to do that.. i made a an another video part (part1 and 2 together) ==> http://www.megavideo.com/?v=7IBDVBEL Now i tryed some setting with virtualdub... and looks like that i craped the sound near the middle. And i'm still trying to fix the unsynchronised stuff at the end. So... this can be very borring Anyway, as you can see some improvement are made... the firewall chest is very usefull for the mistboss and i decide to wait to get victor and flick to colect beat rune and a celadon urn, to get lepant... far later. Actually, this run should be something like this now: - Aim for fastest time - Best Ending (so i have to get 108 character) - Manipulate luck (any TAS using savestate have this kind of option, right?) - Do not abuse programming error in the game (i'm not interresed now to learn how to decode the binairy file in ram... to make some great exploits on right time and other thing) Actually i wont use any kindness rune and matilda border trick... I'll keep motivate to make this run as long, you see these glitch as programming errors. Thanks, Next part: meet nanami, get the medium pots in Ryu house, defeat some highlander, maybe buy some Winged boots at shop... im still unsure about this, get back to Mercenary Camp, scrolling some text, recruit people and maybe visit pilika

As I said before, it might benefit if you recruit Futch and Humphrey earlier in the game using the glitch at the Muse-Matilda border. Those two will definitely give you a mission as you bring in some recruits. One of Futch's best friends assumed that there was such thing as a real dragon and decide to look for it; getting lost in the process. Futch and Humphrey (both above level 30) travels north to an area where a strange bird (Harpy) awaits. That and Futch's best friend who appears to be trapped. For Jowy, Nanami, and yourself at a low level - defeating this boss (especially the beginning) can be a pain in the ass! I noticed that Humphrey looks better in the front row than in the back. He cannot attack from the back row according to his size (S). But not only he can attack from the front, he can also provide an impressive amount of defense from most of Harpy's attacks - and at times, the worst. My strategy one time was to switch formation simply where Humphrey was in the front row and one of my low-level guys standing right behind him in the back. That way, if Futch and three others was killed in a single battle, that would leave Humphrey proudly defending me. After the battle, Humphrey gets some experience, but the low-level person right behind him instantly gets into level 30 (and that will depend on who all was alive after the battle was over).

Another strategy if it ever comes down to it - well, in the long run. I was thinking about the mission where Luca plots an overnight raid on North Window (Your Castle) but gets surprised. Before I even got to that point, I felt the strong urge to make sure at least 18 of my fighting-related recruits are above level 30 and each have a Lightning rune. This way, they can each use an MP LV3 spell known as Bolt of Wrath - while some might even use an MP LV4 "Thor Shot" which does the most damage. Luca on the other hand absorbs only half the damage, but several LV3 and LV4 Lightning rune spells can take him down quicker. Trust me, because I done this several times. What's challenging for this strategy done TAS-style is simply straight luck manipulation!

if i use matilda border trick, i know a way to go instead at lakewest,(just go to greenhill region, just before traveling on the Tai Ho boat) then you can get the kindness rune into a basket. And as Lag.com said... you have the *winning strategy* :-( ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrzX_UIsYCI&feature=related (detail in description) The fight with luca blight should be the harder one of this run, I though. Does Lucas have a any weakness against some specifics runes or any ability? An another glitch... you can have infinite money when your got the armor shop in your castle.

[3.1] Infinite money If you've got Hans, the armorer in your castle, go to him. Have one person in your party with no equipment at all. Choose armor or a helmet that costs over half of your current money and equip it on someone with armor, when you get to the screen that says, "is this okay" hit the Triangle (go back) button twice, and equip the armor instead onto the person without armor. Hit the X button as if you were buying another set of the same armor. The money should jump up to 999,999.

hey i just played a while, without tasing... and looks like you can save some time if you dont rescue nanami So you wont need this heard what she have to say until you see her again at muse city, when you need a permit(yes... she'll magically appear behind you :D ) but you will have to hire mukumuku(lvl3-5) in your team too... and he's not a valuable charather to beat the double head snake(2500hp) in sindar ruins. I think that is a quick and funny way, but it seem really risky.

I did not notice any weak points of Luca, however, 18 people using Lightning runes should make short work of him. BUT, it's no problem to Google your way into determining if there are weak points.

- Manipulate luck (any TAS using savestate have this kind of option, right?)
Luck manipulation practically defines TASing. 'Luck' in games is usually controlled by Random Number Generators (RNGs). For example: Final Fantasy games usually update their RNG every frame, and so 'luck manipulation' means attacking/stealing/whatever on the right frame. If the chance of success is very low, this could mean you have to wait a lot of frames - for a 1/256 chance, the worst case scenario is that you have to wait 255 frames, or 4.25 seconds. So in that case you want order your commands in the way that requires the least amount of waiting. I'm not saying it works the same way in Suikoden II; I haven't even played the game. So be sure to experiment - maybe the order in which you do things effects the RNG, maybe you just have to wait, and maybe it's both. Unless the address for the RNG (there could even be more than one) is known, you'll have to go by feel. Sorry if this post is unwarranted, I got the feeling you were looking for an explanation.

Random battles happen on an RNG that changes every frame. It is possible to run with small breaks of walking to avoid all encounters. In battle, results of choices are determined on pressing OK on the final 'is this correct' dialogue. Choices are again frame-based but somewhat more sticky; 3-4 consecutive frames often give the same results or very very minor differences like a move doing +/-1 damage. Trial and error, go go go.

@LagDotCom: Do you still have the .pxm of you round... and would you share me your work? or we can work together on my actual run, if you have time and want... (as you can see, i'm lacking to speak correctly english, so communication can be harder) -- I begin to write, a route of my whole run, on a little french forums about suikoden2... and I was thinking how I should proceed for the recruitement order... The best way should be to recruit people only when we have to do some stuff in aera and we got the blink mirror to minimize the travel time, but some characther must to be recruited only in a specific time(an example: Clive is actually tracking Elza and i dont i think, that I can wait to get the blink mirror to ask for join me) So, I wondered if there exist a "list", that talk about how much time we can wait to recruit this on another one characther. Else, I'll have to start over an another "test game" to note everything about this stuff.

I dunno... I tested this a couple of years ago, and it seemed like if you don't rescue her it takes ages for Pilika to show up. Although, I guess you could go get Humphrey while you're waiting for her.

i made some test, pilika show up when you recruit 4 member or 5 with nanami(avaible: millie, rikimaru, kinnison, shiro, futch, humphrey and Zamza(but nanami have to be in your team)). But as i said my tas wont abuse any programing error... So no humphrey for now. Else, i found a very interresting item. The boar in ryube can drop "cream cotlet"(always 4packs)... this heal like 70 hp and you have 60% to be invulnerable during some turn. This should be very usefull...

Absolutely go for the Cotlets. If you aren't going to have masses of decent equipment/levels/cheese from kindness rune then a turn of invulnerability can make a lot of difference. Just ask Luca. This might be the pxm I made. I don't mind helping you out with suggestions but I'm not sure how much time I can commit to co-authoring. I'll give it a shot though. Also, I know a little french, but probably not enough to converse normally.

hmmm, I think that my actual pcsx-rr version(0.7 testing-4) wont work with this files.. and pxmconverter crash everytime... So i should probably trying to compile an old pcsxrr :/ Actually, I finish work in kyaro... and I'm trying to found out some celadon urn(already got one for lebrante recruitement, far later), double beat rune and peeing boy(can be selled for a high cost.. and then we should be able to buy some "fury rune" at muse city). I'll probably take some day to rest and try to set up a solid route.. So if you want here's my actual pxm. Also, with these cream cotlet... I was wondering, if i should add something like "never end battle with an uncounious member". In fact... this should be to prevent up this stupid glitch/bug, that I talk before. But, I also read the guideline about TASing and these restriction could be too much for people that will try to beat this... what do you think?

To convert that old pxm format, you need to use "Movie File Format Converter v2.0" first and then "Movie File Format Converter v3.0". This way works for me. Also, there's no need to compile old versions; you can download them from the official website: pcsxrr downloads (you can get both pxm formats converter from there too).
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.
