I went and made a little tool-assisted superplay of Willow, partly for my own enjoyment and also to see if I can get any TASers interested in this game. It's a fun little arcade game using Strider's engine that was lost to the ages due to there being no home ports whatsoever. http://ohnolookoutitsaraygun.com/willow-tasuperplay.fbm Starts out with the intention of getting lotsa kills and gold but gradually gets more and more speedrunny toward the end. My TASing days are long-over though, so this is about as good as it'll get from me. I'm willing to bet that with the right techniques this could easily go below ten minutes.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt this could go around ten minutes, especially since you can cancel the slide with an attack and the attack with a slide. ;P Thank you for making this; this was actually going to be my first project with this emulator and this will serve as a good baseline. I'm definitely going to have to rethink my strategy for using Willow now. Wow, level 2 is going to be a good source for money! O.o Hm, can you not save a state while a movie is playing? Bummer.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Yeah, kinda funny how I discovered the technique late in the video and ran with it. I'm not sure why it's not letting you save. As far as I can tell, FBA has all the recording options other emulators have, aside from switching in and out of read-only mode...

I'm saying that I can't save or load a state while a movie is playing back. And now I can't even seem to do either while it's recording either. O.o It's 0.3.01, by the way. This has me somewhat saddened.

I say try deleting FBA and all its support files and re-downloading it. I'd love to see a Willow TAS. This was one of my favorite arcade titles and I bet it's ripe for abuse.

I downloaded the newest version and everything's up to par. I've already begun assembling a damage chart.

Timing the weapon charges is going to be a real PITA, but if you have good damage charts at least making tons of cash off bosses won't be difficult at all ; )

Making money shouldn't be much of a hassle. Bosses give tons of the stuff, and I should be able to scrape by on whatever stands in my way. Anyway, I finished the damage chart: I'm hoping that it's accurate. The boss list includes the three sub-bosses and are arranged chronologically. I haven't actually analyzed any of it yet, but it should prove helpful in planning out what to upgrade to. (the ?? for the dragon simply means his invincibility is unreliable due to being too out of range to attack constantly)

Bosses definitely give tons of the stuff, and even more if you finish them off with the Gold magic.

First level complete! Took a little longer than I expected. The witch on the bridge was the main problem. Overall I thought it turned out pretty well. Feedback, anyone? (goodness, every other post in this topic has been mine)

Nice WIP.This game is very interesting. There are too many selection in the game,it is not easy to clear which is best.I wonder whether it is necessary to go into shop in the First Level,I think you can buy something better in the next or next+next... level.

You can't ever buy magic more than one step up from what you have. You have to buy each level of magic in order.

I suppose I should update this topic... Yeah, it's been a good long while without any progress reports. I got up to the boat section of level 3 before I decided I needed a break. Playing games in frame advance for several months can get a little tiring, ya know? I just wanted to play games in real time for a bit, so I ended up distracting myself. Unfortunately, my computer is currently packed up, so I won't be able to pick this run up any time soon. I promise I'll get it done. Someday... Xipo: Glad you enjoyed what I had.

I made a TAS of Willow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oq1R_zpdOA There's a faster TAS from a Japanese player but unfortunately the video's been made private.
