I really hate to tell you this, but secret of mana is the wrong game for beginners. Especially because you have to control three characters at one point. I would recommend a game that is easy to do, i would go to the game suggestions forum and look there.

Bienvenu! And now in English: Welcome! Your English isn't so bad -- you just have to practice a bit. :) Like me, my French isn't so good, but I hope you can understand me. There's a thread on Secret of Mana here full of techniques and tools, but I have to agree with Funnyhair: it would be too difficult to TAS for a beginner. RPGs always require you to pay attention to statistics and equipment, and it's not uncommon to find that you have to start over after you've almost finished the TAS. Secret of Mana is particularly difficult because you have to control three characters at the same time.

There is a secret of mana thread in the SNES forums, everything should be explained regarding tricks and what not. As for other things, I would create a new topic, asking about certain things. There are a few areas on the site that will have information that people could link you to. There are other things that are not mentioned on the site. If your persistent about doing the secret of mana, You are going to need to get a memory watcher. I would recommend Gocha's memory watcher. Just type it into Google and the page should come up. I am very sorry if you have a tough time reading this. I enjoy giving help, but i speak no french.

Ok this is pretty simple. The function keys at the top of your key board (F1,F2..etc all the way to F10). Press the buttons to load the save state, Press shift and the button to create a save state. When you ready to start recording a movie, load the rom. Click file, record movie, and make sure it says, Record from now. Start playing. When your finished, make a save state and stop. When you want to continue recording, hit file, then click PLAY MOVIE. Please make sure "open read only" is NOT checked ( if it is, click the check mark to un-check it). Start the play back and load the save state. Then you can keep recording! You shouldn't try to record again, it will just record over.

Number of rerecords does not matter. We want good, fast videos, it does not matter how many times you reloaded/rerecorded. The ".smv" file records controller presses, and plays back controller presses. If your buttons are done from power on with no cheats used, they will be viewable and "validated" by us. You should use the Secret of Mana (U) [!] rom. Once you make a short video, upload the ".smv" file here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php, and we can make sure it plays correctly for us. We validate by making sure the controller input plays back in normal circumstances. You may want to use these buttons to help see things: , = Display Input . = Display Frame Number Like funnyhair said, Open Read Only = WATCH movie Not Read Only = RECORD movie Use Shift / F1-F10 to save and reload Use Shift 8 to switch Open Read Only <--> Not Read Only Rules: MUST "Record from Reset" and "Clear SRAM" Warning: A good TAS for Secret of Mana will need to watch memory to manipulate random actions.

i don't have msn, but feel free to write anyone here a Pm (personal message). We understand its difficult to speak in a language that's not your native language. Derakon speaks french, and others here might be able to help you out in french ( i don't know who speaks French or not).. If you have any questions that are a bit difficult for you to understand in English, feel free to contact someone in French, as it will help you understand it better.

In English: I can speak a little French, but I'm not a TASer, so I probably can't help you with the tools and emulators you will need to use. Sorry. You can ask me if you have questions, but there's no guarantee I'll be able to help you.

Translation for those who can't speak French: "I speak French. Perfectly. PM me to give me your MSN, I'll help you." Par ailleurs, moi aussi, je parle français, mais je n'ai pas TASé un jeu pour l'instant. (By the way, I speak French either, but I haven't TASed a game at the moment.)

I don't know if it would be a good idea, but in the newbie corner section, there could be a thread like Discussion en francais (Discussion in french). So that people that are not native english speaker could that there and ask question, instead of posting directly. It could be either to ask to translate a post or something like that. It would make integration much easier. There could be one for every language that people need. In that case French would only be allowed in this thread and not in general discussion thread. That would remove the clutter of other language, and help new commer. What do you think ?

I'd be a bit worried about such a thread encouraging non-native speakers to avoid posting in the "pure" English threads. Even if it's not the intent, I could easily see it creating a sort of second-class citizen: "You go post in this thread over here, please; those of us who can speak English properly will use the rest of the board." I do think that whenever non-English languages are used, a translation should be provided in the same post, even if it's just Google Translate.

the site's already lost enought potential player from japan... so, why not? Actually, keep insisthing about translating every each post would be encouraging people for creating some sub-community like tasvideosfr.org (example) As long, as the topic is about helping people for getting started, this shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, and I think it would be a good start for those that just want to ask quick question. Serious TASer that needs more information would have to post in the appropriate forums, but they could have help on how to ask that or that information. I don't think it would create a Second-Class forums. And it's for most of people that usually don't post in the forums. I'm a native french speaker, and I won't stop posting just because there's a thread where I can post in French.
