About the chain rod, what McBAIN said just replace the word necessary with time-saving. I think McBAIN is also right about Leviathan V2's stage, you could probably dash jump off the wall instead of using the chain rod.
If you look at the very beginning of the midair transport level you will notice that I don't go through the text for about 5-6 seconds. This is done to set the planes in a good position for me to speed across (their position is fixed and only time determines their position). This has no effect on the in-game timer, but for a TAS this is a bad idea because it wastes lots of real time. I'm pretty sure you can jump from plane to plane pretty easily in a TAS even if you run through the text as fast as possible, so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Actually, I'm just testing MMZ1. I am playing MMZ2 on console for the first time right now. As it stands, Aria is still at the top of the list. But that is neither hither nor thither.
The reason I ask about the CR: it seems like you could save a lot of time by avoiding using the thing, since it kills all velocity and doesn't build momentum. I can't really use the megazpeed/SDA movies for reference, but it seems like you would really only NEED the CR for rescueing the soldiers in the jungle ruins. Also, you could probably avoid swapping to the SB during Ciel's hacking sequence, but that is slightly risky. Still, getting fast charges would be that much closer if Zero just raped everything that appears.
This is just what I'm looking at right now, though. I don't even know if you can do the ice level without the CR, or if you can do those jungle gaps by walljumping rather than swinging. It all requires testing.
Re: McBain
You just answered your own question with your statement.
I'm not one of those people. I'm one of the people that prefers seeing Quake Done 100% Quick instead of just Quake Done Quick, and has pulled off 100% Average Rank on MMZ3 on a real GBA.
And it seems like there are plenty of folks handling the QDQ speedruns, so I might as well tackle my first love, 100% runs.
Re: Mikwuyma
Odd... I always seem to get the Active Form first. Probably because I tend to walking slash-dashing slash combo the 'two hit' enemies I come across. And I hadn't known the dashing slash was that much slower than the jumping slash, again probably because of my play style leaving me falling off a ledge before the dash-slash terminates whenever I can manage it, and on the 'test runs' I've been doing I just flick-dash-jump off the wall as I fall down those first few pels.
This is why I'm discussing things here though, I'm learning things along the way and improving my plan for the run more since a lot of my initial play-time was on a RL GBA so I'm still getting into the statistics-side of planning a run.
And I think it's safe to say that we've both brought up bosses where each of the two forms would shine. On anything remotely lethargic, Rise would definately win, but on the hyperactive bosses Active could give an edge. It may well be that I'll just eat the 'switch delay' between them. It's not like it's hard to test both approaches on any given boss. :-) I'll start experimenting with the Rise Form more.
Re: Zurreco
Good luck with whatever you're working on, too. Look forward to seeing anything that comes out of your neck of the woods.

I'm a bit late with this, but anyway.
You say you lose all velocity when using the CR. That's not entirely true. If you link your CR to a swinging platform/wall, press down on contact and you'll get a boost downwards. Maybe not as fast as normal falling, but you might save a second.

The Chain Rod will never match the speed of well timed and controlled dash jumping. If the CR should be used, it should be used from afar, should be retracted while in use, and should be ended as soon as possible. While the CR doesn't completely kill your velocity, it doesn't exactly help a whole lot.
So is anyone going to do an any% rankless for this?
I'd like to revive some interest in this Game...
As my Megaman ZERO 3 run was published i feel like I could try to carry on a run for this game...
So I need every one help...
So as Zurreco proposed there might be three categories for this game in order to make an entertaining run :
1) Pure speed run
2) 100pts S rank
3) Speed but 100% item collection
I may add :
4) 100% item collection and 100pts
As I've already posted my choice would be to opt for a PURE SPEED run without caring of collecting items and getting S-rank...
So I'm waiting for your opinion :)

I vote for pure speedrun. I think we should first get a simple as-fast-as-possible TAS and after that any/some of those others.
I myself like quite much 100% speedruns/TASes but I still think you should (at least first) make a as-fast-as-possible run.
So let's go with a PURE speedrun... And so going that way I may need your knowledge of the game...
So here are a few questions :
1) Is there any forms that could be useful for such a form... Active or Rise or maybe Power Forms could be interesting... (though if Active form doesn't affect the dashing speed, it's useless...)
2) Does anyone know if the combo system works in this game (buster shot, charged saber shot, triple saber slash, EX skill) ????
3) Anyway which boss should i Kill first ?
Thank you every one...

1) Active form is the only one you'll really use, and you get it pretty quickly along your path, too.
2) As far as I can tell you, the single slash glitch from MMZ1 is gone, but there is still probably something you can exploit from the myriad of moves you have.
3) For boss order, I feel that mike uyama's speedrun has the best route. If you can find any serious reasons to deviate, that's cool, but otherwise I think his order serves your needs fairly quickly.
Also, take care to visciously rape Panter Fauclaus for me. It seems that every time I fight him, I kill him when I am midair between the cars. In case you didn't know, that equates to an instant death.
Finished the very first level (intro level) got a time of 0'46'' according to the in-game timer...
After having watched it I realized that the small choregraphy I perform while fighting the boss is quite ridiculous :D
I think that i'll follow Mike Uyama's boss order, and more particularly, i'll begin with Polar Kamrous...
I've tried to combo many moves thanks to the savestates that Mike gave me but nothing seems to work except the charged slash - triple slash thing... And I won't get anything but the rise form... i have discussed about that with Mike... The jumping rolling slash of the active form can only hit once and is useless and it does not improve the dashing speed... while the last slash of the rise form deals an extra 2 damage...
Here is for the planning... shall let you know about the progress... I'm going to analyze some levels to see if shortcuts are available mostly thanks to the chain rod...
And if anyone knows some glitches that could save time, I'd please to learn about them...
No, I'm not dead... I'm working on this TA speedrun... I've finished the firts four levels... here my current "in-game" time :
- Intro level : 0'46''
- Polar Kamrous : 1'19''
- Panther Flauclaws : 1'21''
- Hyleg Ourobockle : 1'04''
- Phoenix Magnion : 1'20''
I'm not posting my WIP here, though if you still want to watch it, just ask it, i may post it...
Moreover i'e heard about a glitch and i investigated the thing a little and i found something that may be interesting... It's about the chain rod... I shall post the glitch movies here soon... But if anyone knows something about it and how it could be used
I shall continue to work on it... see you soon ;)
Of course I am, though I had a hard time on the aerial srtage (Kuwagust Anchus' stage...) which was quite hard... Burble Herkerot's stage was also quite hard too... And I'm trying to improve it in order to submit a good movie... Moreover I did some research about that glitch story... I still work to find somewhere it could be useful... But so far I do not have any results :S...
It should be over in a short time... :P
EDIT : And I did a big mistake in Phoenix Magnion stage, so I had to do it again and it took time as well :D
I don't know if someone is still interested in this run, but it will be reported to the beginning of July because I only have a laptop currently and i can't stand laptop keyboard... So I'll buy a usb keyboard and i'll continue it... sorry... (why sorry ???)
