I have been taking down some notes that I would like to share. when you go Adventure > New Game 2 to the right is Tiny and 3 to the Left is Dingodile. There is a very specific trick that allows you to spam tap left when you exactly on the first second see Crash, now the difference between Dingodile and Tiny is that Tiny is a bit more difficult and annoying to control. @Crash Cove the way you should do the short cut is to bypass the ramp go into the water with boost and go up, alternately you can clip onto the ramp during a drift and do the exact same. @Roo's Tubes try and get a boost before meeting a ramp that goes down this allows the character to be boosted forward faster as the game doesn't know what to do to you. @Mystery Caves AVOID that "Shortcut" cause it actually isn't much of a shortcut as it slows you down (While RTAing this track i got 46seconds from shortcut on 2nd lap and on final not using shortcut I got 44seconds) also use those turtles to your advantage it's best to get on one thats going down when in mid boost as you can get on 2 and be flung forward. Going to Sewer Speedway Make sure your turn is sharp when drifting if it isn't you will get dialogue. @Sewer Speedway 2 things to keep out for #1 the obvious hole in the wall at the very start enter it when you get to the "Bridge" Jump/Drift down if you took the route you will stay neck and neck with the AI's/people (I'll link something soon to prove my point). #2 when you enter the sewer with the massive gap use the sides when drifting when you're about to go out (the one with 4 boxes lined up) Drift on the left side as it performs a very nice drift will turning (video for that soon when in EDIT). This is for N.Sanity Beach (island) I'll get to the other ones soon Edit: I like to Point out Polar Pass there are 2 shortcuts 1 obvious one past seals jump over... the other one is a bit more death abuse wise MUST have 10 waumpa ready to lose. The shortcut works at the 2 ramp jumps you need speed for this so you must boost alot before getting there when you hit first ramp go right hit R1 (or L1) to make the character jump to the other half of the track if you nip it you are over there (keep in mind this is extremely annoying death abusing but a good speed up if you used polar or pura on this track you will still be alive Dingodile and Tiny are most like going to clip the edge) if you fall and die you will show up on this other side This was done RTA on my PS3 as Dingodile it was very rage educing :D Ok Video is done (while i was writing all that about Polar Pass) so here: Link to video Reminder it was for the track Sewer Speedway, that taking the full "shortcut" is slower than going around and then the second video is the way I was describing it up there Edit 2: Here is the MOST ANNOYING SHORTCUT in this game it's at polar pass the hardest is for Tiny and Dingodile keep that in mind. When I did this shortcut I put the camera close to Dingodile (I usually have it further back) It helps alot more that having it far back. Link to video Edit 3: With My Friend PeteThePlayer he told me there was a harder shortcut longer gap and most likely death. I knew I wasn't going to get uka uka under RTA so I put a cheat in to make it easier and just used it one as if I manipulated it out of a box. Link to video

Someone has to take over for CTR... I cannot do a tas on this due to the emulators (both psxjin and pcsx-rr) are being complete "Peaches" about running this game and the function of my controller but what's worse is that psxjin Savestates are whiny and stupid when you view in playback. Ill still give out useful hints thats possible (or Just possible) to do in RTA and TAS so have fun whoever will take over :D

I'm sad you have to wait for a good TAS-emulator to come out... The worst thing is that the older versions of PSXJin work perfectly, but they don't have the tools to TAS :( PS : I sent you a mp...

I tried to determine if we could manupilate luck, because we will need to do that to open some shortcut... Well, it is not the number of frame or the buttons you pressed, it is not before the loading... I mean, we knew that if we were first, we would have no chance to guet a rocket, but my point is that we ALWAYS get the SAME object if we take the same box, whatever you do before the race (choosing 3 or 5 laps for exemple) or in the race, you just need to take it while being between first and fourth and boom, you get the same item. I wonder how and when does the game decide which item will be in the box, because if for exemple in Tiger Temple we always get TNT, we will never be able to take the shortcut... I don't know if you get what I mean :]

Manipulation in RTA The stuff you can get out of boxes Eg: in 2nd place I got a Warp (Like a Blue Shell in SM64) and ended up using it This trick can be easily used to a tasers advantage (Slowdown) (Thanks for reminding me about Manipulating). I'll try and find examples that I did with other people today as it was quite weird how it was set out. An awesome thing to do is by getting the bubble and taking a mega jump and landing ontop of another Character (1 up). In Tiger Temple I can always manipulate Bomb, Potion, Bubble, Aku Mask and Rocket in RTA its simple as all you have to do is tap Circle to get an item. (I'll make an example for that)

That would be great ! Getting the mask every time would be a good solution to not fear anymore a warp for exemple.... And I think you go slightly faster with a mask no ? But that would be less entertaining I guess... But let's imagine : there's a warp coming to you, it's getting closer and at the last second you pick a bubble and bam ! Protection ! (I forgot if a bubble can actually protect from a warp...)

AI can never get Warp only Human, same goes for Time and Aku/Uka. Also i like to mention when you get a rocket luncher shot at you go to a ramp and jump if it hits you no damage abuse (mainly happens at Mystery Caves)

Area 2 CTR Lost Ruins don't forget first lap should be the slowest overall. At entry you see the save screen go right not left Tiger Temple takes awhile when you drive from podium. If you get a perfect jump up the ramp your turn should be perfect with only 2 boosts if 3 you know you stuffed up. Tiger Temple: At the start you have a large left turn go on the outside of the grass take a box try and manipulate a potion out of it, after the second waumpa box (stay close to the grass) take that ramp and drift in air do boost 1 in air wait for the second to be almost full at third boost at the second of it. In my RTA I got 35 - 36 seconds with shortcut and grass trick only shortcut you will get 38 - 40. TAS aim 33 - 35 it's a tough ask but possible Coco Park: stay on left at start/finish. When you start go and boost to the 2nd box on the left try and manipulate boost/Uka Uka only in this course at first waumpa box (make sure you are close to the middle) boost through the grass on 2nd and 3rd first should be done on land once done and in tunnel hug the right side come again to left side on exit yet again boost on boxes then again before cutting through the grass again take a mini third boost in the grass and jump while you're still in there make sure u hit the road again on a boost it saves .65 when boosting and it saves .85 when boosting then jumping as I got all three laps on a time from 30 - 30.85 RTA TAS 29 - 30 Papu's Pyramid: we all know the mega jump shortcut so I'm letting you know you can make it faster if you follow the first shortcut (after piraña plants) boost jump complete boost again past the other two after he shortcut take a far left to right boost at jump YOU MUST CLEAR THREE BOOSTS BEFORE JUMP!! DON'T FORGET!! Musts wumpa = 10 to make long jump shortcut easier also at 1st shortcut jump towards the right as there is a higher chance of living compared to going at it straight (I will put a video to show what I'm meaning) Manipulations: boost Uka Uka and if you must during the annoying square (aka the thing that takes you up) TNT its funny when you place it behind the waumpa box at the start you sometimes get 3 or 4 characters TIME in RTA I got 32 - 34 which isn't bad for a TAS aim for 30 - 32 it's abit harder but with slow downs Manipulations and savestates you will be fine. When going to Dingo Canyon make sure you boost left to right or else you will hit a cutscene (Same goes for Papu's Pyramid) Dingo Canyon: at start cut through the sand and hit a box MANIPULATE and make sure you do this on the other side (Like Coco Park - the jumping) also when at water section you can manipulate boost jumps (like Sewer Speedway) but at second dry land (when on second track) after the first turn you have a choice between left and right go RIGHT boost it and make sure you boost through the waumpa too when at the mega jump go far right and make sure you boost then boost-jump manipulate do this three times. after This race it will be THE LAST ANNOYING CUTSCENE (if any%ing) for the masks ... GOOD IDEAS usually there might be another character up your butt either shooting rockets or bombs if rockets make a high jump of bombs make a side drive and it goes past you by a bit (This can be done in RTA I know) RTA time 34 - 36 TAS aim for 32 - 34 musts!! boosts / Uka abuse Papu Papu:  same as Papu's Pyramid

Area 3 CTR: Glacier Park REMEMBER 1st lap will be the longest lap!!! Blizzard bluff: MOST OBVIOUS AND USEFUL SHORTCUT at the ice part make a boost towards the ramp at second boost get ready to jump voila you just skipped about 4 seconds. NOTE for turning speed ups go to the shorter end so for turn 1 - 3 (2 and 3 are the jumps down) it would go left, right, left then stick the left before ramps at ramps boost jump and stay middle and then go right with a boost left to do THE shortcut ALL OTHER "SHORTCUTS" AREN'T SHORT THEY ADD 1 Second (in TASSSING THAT IS ALOT) Time for RTA 33 - 35 TASSING AIM for 31 - 33 Dragon Mine: Ok I'm letting you know now the shortcut you see some YouTubers do ISN'T A SHORTCUT it's almost the same amount of time as going around in circles but circles is faster by a few seconds if boost is used which it should be. At the start there is obviously that water pit go through it take a boost manipulation when in the air and continue going it saves 1 second overall by going around the water you get that 1 second added. near start/finish there is a Turn and boxes take a boost before hitting the ramp jump in a far left direction boost again and again for the third but shorter as you will lose speed RTA 33 - 36 TAS aim for 30 - 34 Polar Pass: writing the times firstly RTA 55 - 58 (with and without shorter jump shortcut and a seal hitting me before jumping over the wall (look entertainment value right there)) TAS aim for 53 - 57 ENTERTAINMENT VALUE near the end after the jump on ice jump on the barrier and do boosts you can also play with death by free drifting on air (not joking I do it all the time on RTA) no time will be lost, also don't use mega mega jump unless you have Uka Uka and if you can brake at the right time your fine if you fall use savestates if you cannot do it without firing the time will be crap so use the other one at snow ramps (very starting jump) JUMP BOOST MANIPULATION (what is up with that there is alot in this game XD) Tiny Arena: OK TASSERS USE ALL THE SAVESTATES AND SLOWDOWNS NEEDED THIS LEVEL IS A B**CH FOR RTAers (excuse my french) now for entertainment value you will be stuck with the AIs use them jump on their heads to gather boost and also to must use BOOST MANIPULATION ALOT OR ELSE SUFFER THE TIME AVOID THE MUD TOO. Turn all the corners sharply at the near end of the laps jump mud, boost, jump to center, jump (collect) boost then boost next (or finished) lap. Times that I managed in RTA with a lot of restating (in seconds) 70 - 78 for TAS you must get at least  due to first lap always being the slowest 65 - 70 if higher it should be fine cause all the TAS times I'm writing is an estimate on what it should be compared to RTA but if it's slower than RTA we got a problem. Komodo Joe: Same as the level Dragon mines Komodo Joe throws TNT backwards and always gets in front no matter if TAS or RTA

Area 4 CTR: Citadel City At entry enter N.Gin Labs first as once you finish it you can jump down from podium (as seen in the speedrun) to Cortex Castle N.Gin Labs not much to say about it besides at start grab the 2 waumpa boxes on first jump aim for the far right item box. go close to corners, at final jump go middle (aka box that is 2nd on the left then right then left (should be done in THREE boosts) then repeat besides waumpa boxes as you should max out also enemies will stay on your tail by a bit so in one sit boosts (Blue Pipe) Get three boosts done hold the drift when at the end and continue boosting after it wears out (do this near the end use savestates to help) the boost is class 2 if you do 1 or 2 boost class 3 if you did 3 (aka lasts longer) RTA 53 - 57 (told you I was trying) TAS aim 50 - 55 Cortex Castle: Enter by jumping off podium and use brake to control position let get before you land) hog corners again use boosting when maxed shortcut advised saves 3 seconds DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT JUMP (aka hitting R1 or L1) at the ramp you will be slower get a boost down before hitting the boost ramp. Someone research it's usually between 18 - 20 seconds in a lap there is that jump from the castle you can get there but teleport out you can glitch it I know I did it once when I was young but I cannot do it anymore time that will be save is around 30 - 36 seconds. RTA 53 - 57 TAS aim for 47 - 54 Hot Air Skyway: There was an old glitch that was in this level where you can skip about 10 seconds Naughty Dig patched that one but did NOT patch another jump that saves and also can loose time if unlucky but we are TASSING so who would give a dam we have savestates this is also importants saving around 15/17 seconds depends how quick you do it... after taking the boost jump where you choose left and right (hope you chose right for times sake) anyway after that you see 2 roads with a barrier in between go down the ramp on your side make a boost jump over the barrier :D mission complete do it 3 times. Entertainment value again at final lap when you are about to finish go far left suicide off you will make a glitch happen where the game has no idea what to do to you but no one will see the the 2nd half of the glitch but the first half still works fine. RTA 54 - 58 TAS should be 50 - 54 note AI will be up your butt until you do the shortcut. Note: RTA times were lengthen because I was attempting a different shortcut which saves half a second it's a  50/50 chance on doing it clean in RTA aka there are chance you will fall Oxide's Station: Kill me for attempting an RTA as Dingodile we all know the famous shortcut in this level quite easy as every character besides Tiny and Dingodile now the turning for them is harder than all characters now if we all know the lowest end there should be a glitch I cannot get it under RTA but TASSING it will be more likely what it is, is there is a turn (like the famous shortcut) its closer to the end track it should shave off a good 20-30 seconds FROM THE SHORTCUT TIME (if long route it would be 40-50 seconds) that's about 85% of the whole map but if that glitch doesn't work use the original trick like I wrote it's a hard trick to do I did this once when I was young (Like Cortex Castle) this is hard to do. RTA (- longway + fail jumps) 53 - 58 if TAS aim for 50 - 56 (with shortcut glitch it would be 20 - 30 for one lap estimated). Pinstripe: Well done 2nd last boss, now what happens is that you're at Hot Air Skyway facing "the speed king of earth" Pinstripe (Hope you liked the sarcasm knowing that you will kick his ass) Pinstripe's weapon is a bomb he only shoots backwards use the unexpected shortcut at the start and you will be fine if he doesn't catch up ;D Oxide: I always thought he had a longer name........... OH what oh yes the TAS you will be racing Oxide in his station use the shortcut be done with him in under 2 minutes Edit: Oops forgot to add what he throws out... in order Oxide throws out (depends on distance) Green Potion, TNT, Nitro, Bombs (backwards), Red Potions, Green Potion Repeat (not edited in) FINISHING THE TAS must have slowdown on about 20% speed now what you do is spam the shat out of The X button once you hit it at the right frame FREEZE the game and pray to God that it doesn't desync when watching it as playback. Edit: Woops I herpy derped the video stops at podium you must hit the START button What happens after you stop the movie recording to the ones that don't play CTR is that Oxide when doing any% says something along the line of beating his times aka 101% the game then race again obviously this was an any% guide to 101% this game do area by area first I don't have a set route to help you for the purple CTR tokens so good luck on finding a fast way through that. This is all the work I have done over my little break using only a PSP (PAL) and an iPhone as during the time I was at Fiji "relaxing"

If this game isn't emulated well, you could always try TASing Crash Nitro Kart for GameCube. It's a very similar game.

I agree but the game is more annoying due to the controll changes you must be at all times be the most powerful character on both sides

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean you have to be Tiny or Crunch all of the time, and they are hard to control?

forgot to add also (bloody phone) what I mean is the style of the game has changed completely with the drifting if you go to my friends YouTube account PeteThePlayer he has done a speed run as crash I cannot link it due to where I am right now

It's OK. I already found it on SDA and watched it there. It definitely looks like a different kind of drifting than this game. An optimized TAS of that game with Crunch would be something to see. Well, it's too bad PSXjin doesn't emulate this game very well. Maybe you could use what you learned about the tracks and physics to make a real-time run.

when I get back Fiji hopefully me and my friend shall do a coop speed run on this game (think of the halo speed run that was done)

That sounds like it will be a good run! The Halo speed run is a good example; it was an impressive 2-player feat.
