Wouldn't mind watching a PSX version run with this bug included. I think it'd be pretty funny. ("okay, intro stage finished... waitwhat, final stages already?") I don't think being restricted to X-buster is that much of a problem.

I'm working on Mega Man X3 and here is my WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/529540733/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%20X%203%20%28US%29.smv I beat the intro stage and Blizzard Buffalo and saved 165 frames so far.

Not new. In fact, this is the same thing that caused all the fuss about my 100% run. -_-'

Yooo, it's me. I'm thinking of picking up this project again. But first, I have an important question. I'm currently using version v1.52 of snes9x. And I wonder... How do you record a video, stop the video, view your progress, then append more progress to the end of your previously stopped video? Can this be done with this version or do I have to go back and download an earlier version? If that would be the case, then dang. 'Cuz I like v1.52...

this X3 version apparently has remixed music?

Wikipedia: "A 32-bit version of Mega Man X3 was released on the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and the PC in various countries. This version was included on the North American Mega Man X Collection in 2006." That version indeed has remixed music. (He's on anniversary collection.)

Fractal Fusion made a far better speed run than I'd imagined. Oy, this is going to be difficult...

I think it'd be better to use snes9x v1.43, as it has less lag (than 1.51 at least, I assume the same for 1.52). Otherwise you'd possibly lose time due to more random lag frames.

Okay, thanks. I just don't know how to continue recording the same run from where I left off after turning the emulator off..

It's pretty easy. 1. Start playing the movie. 2. When you reach your resume point, pause it, and make a savestate. 3. Make sure the emulator is in Read+Write mode instead of Read-Only mode. (The default hotkey to toggle this is Shift+8.) 4. Load the state, and the emulator will return to Record mode.

Thanks a lot, man. I left my emulator running on this one recording, and it started lagging, and so I had to stop recording it. And that sucked. Again, thanks.

Somebody made a MSU-1 patch for this game. Now we can use music from the PS1/Saturn versions in this game. Also, no new published TASes of this game were made, so this will be the perfect opportunity to start one by using either BizHawk or lsnes.

why nobody TASes the glitch for ps1 version..
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

The PSX port of the game has a menu glitch that allows the fortress stages to be selected without actually completing any of the maverick stages. Nobody has TASed it because as far as I know the game didn't run in pcsx-rr and PSXjin (and PSXHawk is not a completed or approved emulator yet). It's also not a terribly interesting run, just slowly X-Bustering basically every boss in the game. EDIT: relevant forum topic from a few years back

I am curious, do people think that a true 100% run is unique enough from the 100% "best ending" run to merit publication along side it as a different category, or that it is similar enough that it should be compared to it for obsoletion/rejection? The 8 Maverick stages are essentially the same, but the end game is almost completely different. You visit Vile in his secret stage, fight different Doppler stage bosses, and use the saber in conjunction with the hyper chip in the boss rush/Sigma fights (here is a real-time run for reference). The reason I ask is because I have interest in making a true 100% run, but wouldn't want to obsolete the "best ending" run since I think that category is a bit more entertaining.

I know for a fact that SNES9x doesn't support MSU-1 enhancements.

Hm, so it is actually a finished TAS. GlitchMan, are you going to submit this TAS sometime soon? Perhaps you are redoing the TAS because of the left+right walljump glitch found in http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18038 ?

I didn't find out about that until just now. This was actually just a WIP to revise. There is also a time saver where if you jump further ahead of the miniboss door in the minibusses room on each Maverick stage it saves a frame which i didn't know about until after this WIP. I might go redo this WIP from the intro level start.

Nice WIP, Glitchman. I really like what you did with slippery surface momentum in Buffalo's stage and the saber in Doppler 2 and the boss rush. If you are looking to redo it, there are only a few things that stood out to me as potential improvements: 1. I'm pretty sure you can save a frame grabbing a ladder to go down if it's possible to precede it with a full-length dash. It looks you did this on some ladders where it was possible, but not the first one on the intro stage for instance. 2. I recall the last part of the first climb in Catfish being faster without any doublekicks rather than with. 3. I'm not sure if this will save time in any%(maybe a few frames), but you can make Hornet continue to move to the left side of the room at the start of the fight to hit him earier. I'm not sure how that will play out in regards to ending the fight with him at a low position though; maybe you already tested this. 4. I think it's possible to jump 2 frames earlier and kill the last enemy before the spikeball section in Doppler 1 with Triad Thunder to go over the ledge at a higher velocity. 5. For Mosquitus, I had an idea of a strat that would go something like calling Zero earlier so you can use your first green shot before the door, shoot the 2nd shot at Mosquitus while you're jumping into him and let him grab you, then bait him over to the right as you're sabering him. I don't know if it would be faster than what you did, but it might be worth testing. Also the RNG on his descent after the fight can be improved if you make him fly either towards Zero or down+right every 4 frames; that would require some dissasembly to manipulate though. 6. You can hit Dr. Doppler earlier at the start of the fight if you don't trigger the regeneration shield. This is assuming its possible to dodge his first shot from that pattern though and I'm not sure if it is. I think the best way to setup that strategy would be to kill the green guy with buster and turnaround kick up the wall so you can waste your preliminary charged shot before the door. 7. There might be more that can be done to reduce lag in the Sigma Virus climb, although it is pretty difficult to reduce lag there without air dash. In regards to the turnaround kick, it opens some extra possibilities for single wall climbs. This table shows the average vertical speeds for each walljump interval. Over long vertical distances, the fastest way to climb a single wall is to alternate between a normal kick and a turnaround kick every other jump, and to walljump 13f after each turnaround kick and 23f after each normal kick(strictly because it takes 23f to get close enough to the wall again after a normal walljump). If you have the saber or another wall close by, then it is more optimal to jump 20f after each normal kick if you can put a saber jump or a jump off another wall in between(see the Sigma 4 climb in Nrg_zam's X1 any% run for an example).

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/560207359/Mega%20Man%20X%203%20%28U%29-wip1.smv Basically X doesn't encounter Bit or Byte throughout the game and doesn't have to fight Vile in the secret factory to get Zero's sabre. This saves 3 minutes and 30 seconds (I got the time from my other movie).

Personally, I'd rather not see this glitch used in any of the SNES runs since it abuses the password system and takes away gameplay without really adding anything in return, and it could be used in every category if it was allowed. Although I wouldn't mind seeing it in a PSX any% run, since that run is already glitched anyway from the Doppler skip, and would be otherwise really boring with only buster for the end game.
