If you've got someone else's inputs for some of it, make sure they're credited as a co-author. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

How is the pitwalking trick done? I thought it was alternating between up/forward and down/forward every frame, but I can't get it to work.

You need to walk between two holes, if it's one pick it doesn't work. If you walk upwards and start to fall down into the left hole, then press right until you'll start falling down into the right pit. After that you can hold forwards and alternate between left and right every second frame.

Not really a WIP as it is a finished project.

Link to video Input file: User movie #43199972659729812 So, I was looking into ways to improve the current TAS. The idea of using the Whimsical Ring has been around for some time but now that we don't need the Expert's Ring anymore it is actually viable. The Whimsical Ring gives us a 1:256 chance of doing 12 points of damage with a single sword slash, so it speeds up combat a lot. However, it takes a considerable amount of time to buy and appraise it. After a lot of testing I concluded that, all things considered, it will save time but it's probably gonna be less than 10 seconds over the course of the run. The main way TASes have manipulated luck so far was by doing extra sword slashes during downtime. However, this only advances the RNG a couple of ticks and since the Whimsical Ring has such a low chance of activating, this method will usually not do the trick. Fortunately, Keese call the RNG every other frame, so by killing one of them we can change the RNG a lot. This requires a great deal of planning though because you will sometimes have to make a decision on whether to kill a Keese 20 minutes before you need the Whimsical Ring to trigger. Another interesting thing to note is that when the Whimsical Ring is equipped, the RNG will advance twice for every sword slash (once to determine the sound effect that plays and once to check if the Whimsical Ring activates). This means that we can advance the RNG more quickly but changing the parity of the current tick can sometimes be difficult.

This is great and really well done rng manipulation. I like the damage boosts. The lightning bolt sound for the quick kills just makes it hilarious. Keep up the good work!

Barrier Skip has been found for Oracle of Seasons! Makes it possible to reach Onox after beating only the first three dungeons. Here's the highlight of the start of the glitch from the new RTA WR: Link to video He also made a detailed video explaining what's going on: Link to video

I've just found that it's also possible to skip the boomerang. In the setup shown in my video, the boomerang is required for 2 roosters, and is also used outside onox's castle, so not having the boomerang gives a deficit of 3 objects. Here's how that can be fixed: * Pick up and throw the sign on top of d4, using that to replace the boomerang clink. Then dig twice and have the season blurb on-screen as normal. The timing for this is tight since the season blurb barely stays on-screen long enough. * On the screen with Moosh, dig twice instead of once. This isn't as difficult. * Use the trick I showed in the video to get one extra rooster from the moosh area. All in all, this probably saves around 20 seconds at most. The boomerang only takes a minute to get, and this makes the setup longer. It's obviously worth it for a TAS, but it's rather questionable for an RTA run, since it makes the setup a lot harder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y16Syf-cfCw&t=390s The center ("Ricky Natzu") run shows this off, although it appears earlier in the other two runs on the sides too. After talking to Drenn (who posted above me here, I see! :D), this glitch may have some good TAS usage. Here's how it is summarized: - Drenn manipulated an enemy to appear in that exact spot so it could hit them. - They then spawns a Bomb, so it can blow up and damage boost them. - They then throw it before it blows up, and use a Pegasus Seed. - Immediately after using the Pegasus Seed, they swap the Pegasus Seeds for Ricky's Flute. - Ricky's Flute is immediately used after being hit by the fire monster. This causes the fire monster to initiate a damage boost, but... - ...it also resets your blinker. They then get hit by the bomb for a SECOND damage boost, allowing the incredibly long-range jump to be performed. However, this has even greater ramifications. Keep watching! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y16Syf-cfCw&t=475s You can skip the Hide and Seek portion via a similar jump! OoS is one of my favorite games of all time. I can't contribute much at all gameplay-wise for a speedrun, much less a TAS, but I see this thread has been pretty inactive, and many things seem to have been found recently. And I like watching videos, and sometimes that's helpful to post here too. :)

There has been a lot of stuff going on in the RTA scene for Seasons, the TAS is long obsolete, really.

When school gets out for me I would love to help out with it.
I like to comment on submissions and look around the site. You have probably seen me before (if you have been around for a while) either on the site, Discord, or any other social media. I recently took up making temporary encodes for new submissions. Also, I never forget to greet Tompa wherever I find him! Watching an RTA WR for Oracle of Ages. Saw a very interesting glitch that can be adapted for the TAS too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhFgLohzb0w&t=3370s Almost all of Skull Dungeon is completely passed over via a very tricky jump similar to the Oracle of Seasons ones. Apparently, there is no concept of a "second level" or higher platform like in A Link to the Past or anything. If you can jump to a bridge, like that, well, that's the level it is on. It is merely visually on a different plane. EDIT: This is a major edit. I just finished the run and Nitroz uses a completely different payload at the end. Instead of triggering the buggy Ring Box then beating Veran, they outright warp to the credits. Honestly, I think anyone looking to re-run OoA (not as much as OoS, but some new skips or techniques seem to have been found) should probably give it a watch. I haven't seen the TAS for awhile but the above two tricks alone would be very useful for a TAS and I know the published one here doesn't use either, for instance.

I don't know if double-posting is frowned upon but here are two more spots that I think may be faster in the above RTA than the TAS, but I don't have any way to count frames right now for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhFgLohzb0w&t=2100s An S+Q looks like it makes more sense there to me, but I don't know if it actually is faster, and if it messes with RNG too much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhFgLohzb0w&t=2161s A bomb jump is used to get to the flippers instead of taking the long way around. This one seems like it should definitely be faster. However I'm not privy on how the RNG works here---sometimes what appears faster short-term might screw up something later on.

In the interest of having this knowledge in a public place, there's a theoretical new TAS route for Ages involving a pretty awesome japanese-exclusive glitch. I discovered this back in March and was thinking of making at least a LOTAD for it, but never got around to it, so I'll at least post it here so it's known about. After you get the bombs from Queen Ambi, there is one frame where you can move. In the japanese version ONLY, it is possible to use the harp during that one frame. (In other versions you can use other items, but not the harp.) Normally you would only have the Tune of Echoes at this point, so playing the harp would do nothing. However, a TAS can skip the queen ambi cutscene entirely, meaning you can return later - in other words, you can return when you have the Tune of Currents. This would seem meaningless by itself - playing the Tune of Currents in Ambi's Palace merely sends you to Nuun Highlands, an area which you would already have access to. However, it ALSO creates a "return portal". By re-entering this "return portal", you can access ambi's palace before beating dungeon 6 and get the Tune of Ages early! Specifically, the steps you would take are as follows: - Initially skip the Ambi's Palace cutscene by using toilet warp + pitwalking to get bombs from a chest - Play normally until you get the Tune of Currents - Trigger the Ambi's Palace cutscene - Warp into the present during the cutscene as you get bombs - Savewarp back to the past - Enter the cutscene again and complete it normally (necessary because it didn't fully play out the first time) - Go to nuun highlands and use the return portal to get into Ambi's Palace with full control (must use Tune of Echoes otherwise the return portal will disappear) Nitroz has also created a candidate route using this trick, I haven't reviewed it myself but I'll leave it here: https://pastebin.com/JGj6U9qP
