The darknut trick...? Ehum... You see everything in the movie. The entrance to the room is just below. Just go up and close to the darknut, he will see you and run forward. When he is in the corner, just use the switching hook. Is it that hard? :O

I meant the other tricks, not the darknut trick.

Ok, I will try to upload some pictures, if I have time. Because I have a game session this weekend so I won't be at the computer so much, nothing really. But I shall see if I can help you:). But it would help a lot if you could explain a little more about what you meant, which tricks you need screenshots on. Don't you understand my explanations? You have watched my testrun, haven't you? Most all is in there, except some small improvements... Shall I try to make a new testrun that has all the new tricks etc? Will take some time but, and I hardly want it either...

Meh, don't bother. Pics are all I need (and maybe the occasional snapshot movie). I also discovered a cool trick to kill both yourself and an enemy at the same time with only a sword! O_O It doesn't have much value but I hope to upload it to YouTube soon.

Going to be "hard" for me to post pics, as I don't know what tricks and so you are wondering about... =) I can't really post a pic of every trick in the whole run, sound a bit useless.

I'm postponing (NOT CANCELLING) this run due to an insanely difficult schedule. With the schedule I have in a good week I register 1000 frames or less.

Oh, too bad:(. I hope that Vespa won't "cancel" the run as well, because I'm really looking forward to both these!

I guess I used the wrong wording. It should have been "this run is moving really, REALLY slowly, therefore you should consider it postponed even when it's not." Sorry about the confusion.

I understood what you meant, just wrote my answer on a different way, hehe. Don't know how far you have reached yet, but there was a little bug in the beginning just before you get the sword. It doesn't save any time so if you are further than that just don't care. But if you press the Select button when Ralph is running away, you will still hear the music when you are talking to Impa. Regulary, as you know, that scene is silent. This is a bit pointless, but still:).

Heh. Turns out I didn't optimize the picture of Nayru singing. Redone it and am just at Maku Road...again :(.

Post a new Wip every 5/10 minutes or similar. So you don't to remake too much if I find improvements.

</sarcasm> Anyway, first WIP finally! Ends after Maku Road, with better route optimization etc. I'm currently 1,063 frames up on Tompa's testrun (though most of that time was saved by entering "A" as my name). Enjoy! And also, to Vespa: maybe our two slow runs will cancel out into one fast run O_O *shot*

Okay... I watched your run, and I have a couple of things to say. First, you can autofire A and B on alternate frames to skip text even faster. Second, there were a couple of movements that can be optimized (for instance, when Link automatically walks over to the stone with Impa, you can position him so that he doesn't have to walk down the extra space). Here's a testrun I made a few weeks ago: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2024/OoA%20testrun1.vbm It's about 550 frames faster than yours at the place where yours ends. I'm not bringing this up to discourage you (in fact, this was how I got better at TASing, when somebody improved my beginning to Link's Awakening). If you still want to TAS this game, I'll gladly step aside, let you work on the run, and give you helpful hints along the way :)

OK, have watched both your runs. I guess it isn't faster to talk with the monkey once instead of the red bear. But I am always talking with the monkey, hehe. To Englishman: Same as what Chef said. To Chef: Ater obtaining the seeds, go right instead of down. That way is faster to the graveyard. Keep on trying to get rupees from enemies and bushes. You need to get 80 through the game: 10 for Tokay Island minigame. 20 for first Goron Dance. 10 for the "Train minigame". 20 for the "Slash with the sword to hit blue fairys and bla bla minigame." 20 for the second goron dance. I just came up with an idea... I wonder if it may be faster to do some pure luck manipulation and get the Whimsical Ring from Maple... It decreases your sword damage, but sometimes the hit is an instant kill. I'm not sure how this rings works because I have never equipped it. Does it work on bosses? Are the slashes random if the hit is an instant kill or not? If it is, you could use luck manipulation all the time to always get instant kills, hehe. Just an idea :D.

Using rings is an interesting idea... I've been looking at this Ages Walkthrough (scroll almost to the bottom to find the rings section). It seems as though several of these rings could be useful: a. Whimsical Ring, for Tompa's reasons. I'm not so sure, though, that the critical hits work on bosses. b. Power Ring lvl2, increases sword damage c. Charge ring/Spin ring, allows for better use of the spin attack It might even be useful to grab the upgraded ring box, but remember that for each ring, you have to find and manipulate Maple, then go back to Vasu and have it appraised for 20 rupees. I seriously doubt getting more that one ring is useful. So, we should pick the most useful ring of those above. Although, I'm even starting to wonder if getting a single ring is worth the time. It seems to me that the combined time of manipulating a specific ring out of Maple, running back to Vasu and listening to his opening talk, then getting the ring appraised makes for too much wasted time. You could probably get the potion and the ring from Maple at the same time, but good luck trying to manipulate that! I would estimate that getting back to Vasu, after getting the ring from the closest Maple spot, would be a detour of about 30 seconds. Of course, you could also just use a password to get all 64 rings, but that's probably cheating :)

In my Speedrun, and also the testrun, I am taking the Power Ring lvl 1 from dungeon 1. I'm quite sure that this one will save time. Because many bosses can be killed in less cycles than before. Quite a lot actually. But to manipulate Maple to drop Power Ring Lvl 2 instead would save a lot more time, both because it is stronger but also because you don't need to take the small detour to get the Power Ring lvl 1. And as you have to meet Maple to get the Magic Potion, this won't take so much time at all. It takes around 20 second to appraise it at Vasu. And it will be a lot faster to have that ring indeed. It's free to appraise the ring as well so you don't need to get more rupees either... But I'm not so sure how hard it really is to manipulate Maple to drop it, sadly... But you shall indeed try! Someone of you.

I believe I brought this up initially in the SDA walkthrough. My players guide claimed that the L1 Power ring was in that chest. But...it seemed like getting the L1 Power ring was random. Does that mean you have to restart the speedrun each time you don't get it? I guess if the run is segmented, it can't be too bad :).

The ring is ALWAYS in the chest in the hidden room in dungeon 1. You did, however, say that there was a Power Ring lvl 2 in a chest in Oracle of Seasons dungeon 1, which happens to be a discovery ring...

Oh, that's right. Sorry, it's been a while, and I don't have my players guide near me. I agree, getting the power ring is worth it. Actually, if your main goal is speed, one should enter a password that gives your the L3 ring, and pegasus ring. But then you could make that argument that if you enter a ring password, you might as well enter in a linked game password, and a bunch of other stuff. Maybe 2 separate runs, I guess.

I have been thinking of a linked run as well. Not sure I will do one but... The idea is still up there:). EDIT: By the way. When you are digging, is it faster to slash with the sword just after every dig? I am sometimes doing this, but I don't know if it's really faster. Is it? And also: Is it faster to fly than walk with moosh? Another thing I haven't cared to try :D.
