Don't know about skill but sure do love me some game music. Tossed this cover of the ending from Mega Man X together yesterday.

"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Everyone has posted nice things. Bisqwit are you really 32? Your ocarina video makes you look, uh, younger. Congratulations on holding your age so well while not being Asian. My girlfriend is the same age, looks even younger, but is Chinese so it is normal. I wish I had something to share on YouTube, and I plan to get a cam soon since I just bought a Yamaha MOTIF XF 8 and I can finally let loose, but here are some solos (all of which need to be re-recorded): Gnossiennes 1 (Lent) Fast Waltz, Fun to Play! Sonata Pathétique (2nd Movement) (will be updated because I can play it so much better with my new weighted keys) Also have Moonlight Sonata and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 but I will redo it because it was really hard to get good dynamics and a steady rhythm on a soft-key keyboard (Yamaha MOTIF XS 7), and with my new weighted keys I will be able to control it much better. Für Elise coming soon (I tried on my soft-key keyboard but it is just too impossible to keep a steady rhythm and the right dynamics). Rei Ayanami’s theme coming soon. Original: Matin Game Remixes (all made around 2001 when I sucked (PS: I still suck)): Rusty Bucket Bay—Banjoe & Kazooie Bramble Scramble—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest Hip Hop Swamp—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest Mines—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest Zeal Island—Chrono Trigger Konkluded Epik—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest Shipwrecked—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest Lava—Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest The Nightmare’s Beginning—Final Fantasy VII Piano solo! When I was a kid. Aeris’ Theme—Final Fantasy VII I hate the song, but I was trying to impress a girl. Maybe I will run out and buy a cam today so I can post YouTube videos. L. Spiro

Well, I was technically a year younger than that, when the video was recorded. But yeah, I often get that. Thanks.

I wasn’t planning to post this at all but I gave it a shot in IRC and it was unexpectedly well received. This is an original song (was not going to post because I automatically assume all of my original material sucks) I wrote for an adorable Chinese angel who I hope will become my wife someday (who I mentioned in my previous post). Her name is Yoo and I am hoping this will make her fall in love with me. Yoo Planning to add guitar and drums to this later but will keep it as a piano solo also due to the recommendations from IRC. She has a son named Neo and I wrote a song for him too, but it is not done yet. Hope you enjoy. Oh and Moonlight Sonata Adagio Sostenuto (1st Movement). L. Spiro

"Yoo" reminded me a lot of comptine d'un autre été. I liked it, it sounded like a tune from a movie (and now I will have that song in my head for the rest of the day). I also liked your take on Moon light sonata, beautifully played, and good sound quality.

I assume this is you playing live (rather than it being made with a sequencer)? I'm in no way an expert in music, but to my layman ears it sounds extremely well played. The tempo seems to stay stable really well (something which I personally have big problems with when playing anything with any instrument) and the overall flow of the music is really smooth. Pro stuff. I have a friend who studies at a conservatory here in Finland (he might actually have completed it already). He is very fond of the 3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata because it's one of the most difficult pieces of (well-known) piano music ever written and requires a lot of practice and skill to get right. I'm wondering if you have tried to play it.

Damn damn damn! I made a major mistake with the equalization when recording Moonlight Sonata Adagio Sostenuto (1st Movement). I fixed it and the correct recording is up on the same link. If it is a song you want to keep, please trash that old version and redownload. Thank you Randil. Nice song. I recently discovered this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ8OeRocLrk I think my song is probably somehow inspired by that song because I have had it on my mind a lot and even learned to play it by listening to the video over and over (the girl who does the drawing also wrote that song, and I asked her for the music sheet for that song but she said she has not made it yet). I may post my rendition of her song soon, though it is already beautiful enough when she plays it. Thank you Warp. Yes it was me playing live. All of the piano solos I have posted were, and I also played live all of the tracks in Aeris’ Theme (which is why the harp is so horribly wrong) and Rusty Bucket Bay. Thank you again. A woman here in Tokyo has been trying to get me to play the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata, but I was not really interested until I learned it had status as being one of the hardest. I plan to start on it soon and see how it goes. I do however play Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (my favorite!), and I hope to get a recording up if I can ever relax enough. I still get nervous when I am recording, even when I am alone, and I have to get over that. L. Spiro

When I made a quick stop in America for the first time in 7 years, what did my mother request that I play? Moonlight Sonata? Sonata Pathetique? No! Rei Ayanami’s Theme—the most beautiful song in the world—of course! I don’t think she realizes it is from an anime, and I don’t have the heart to tell her. So I did it next. Rei Ayanami’s Theme from Neon Genesis Evangelion (piano solo, live-recorded). I may also do a full orchestral version later in an attempt to capture its full beauty. L. Spiro

She probably thinks it is a classical piece. I don’t think she thinks anime is cool. L. Spiro

The lack of compelling variation, relentless syncopation, and constant forte dynamics get really tiresome. Maybe try to find a less mind-numbing transcription? That being said, you're fine for an amateur. I bet the chicks lap that shit up.

My Rei Ayanami’s Theme was wrong so I updated it. I had not listened to the original in so long I forgot the tempo on the harp section and practicing it slowly made me end up playing it slowly. I redid the song. But with critiques like the recent one(s) I am not so sure I want to post anymore. L. Spiro

Please don't stop posting, I download and listen to your songs. I think you're seriously talented, and I think a lot of people will agree with me on that.

Spiro, don't let some condescending elitist douchebag who doesn't know how to talk to people like a normal person dissuade you from posting. Clearly you're playing well enough to not let something like that bother you. I haven't listened to all your stuff yet, but I'm enjoying it.

Thank you both. But actually no I don’t know how well I am playing. I have never studied music or taken piano lessons etc. I learned on my own and have mostly just played for a few friends and family members. And since it is all casual, none of them are going to talk about syncopation, forte dynamics, etc., even if they WERE qualified. I would assume someone who is talking about all these things must have some credentials, but then again, I play for fun, so who cares? But I am hoping to make a classical CD. Since I have never been evaluated by anyone except friends and family and I don’t trust them, I’m not sitting on a sack of self-confidence quite large enough to take a blow like that. But who cares right? I need it. I will take it like a man when it is my turn. Fabian, maybe my ear is just not as trained as the ears of some others but I did not really see so many problems with your Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Maybe he has a vendetta? If we are comparing against Elton John, I am pretty sure we would all have clear flaws. Perhaps the flaws are there, but if you had someone who could break it to you a little more easily than that, you could be well on your way to cleaning it up and making yourself into a real pianist (if that is your goal). Besides I did not see anything posted by Pointless Boy. Perhaps he does not know first-hand how hard it is to play when a camera or recorder is watching you/listening to you. I am going to keep posting. This is all for fun. L. Spiro

I can play that reasonably well, yeah. As long as I have the chords for a song, I can usually make it sound decent enough. Elton John is my favorite artist, and I play many of his songs. www.eltonchords.com is a great site :) I don't have access to a camera, so I can't put up videos on youtube, but I could probably record a sound-only version and upload somewhere if you were interested. Edit: Well, I felt like giving it a try, so here it is. I literally just sat down and pressed record, so it might not be up to the highest of standards (sorry Kermit dude!). You can probably tell I'm not very used to playing it, but meh, it was a fun way to spend 4 minutes. Actually I should have just stopped after the first chorus, so pretend the final 1½ minutes aren't there or something :) Anyway, hope you all like it :) Elton John - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Piano Cover) (Can I upload mp3 files somewhere for streaming? I know how annoying it is to download stuff)

Yes! Totally awesome. One of my favorites of his. This thread makes me want to break out my (horrible) keyboard and upload something. Unfortunately, I only ever learned to play video game music (which I still think is actually pretty sweet), but I would love eventually to be able to play Jackson Browne songs, and maybe some Bob Seger and / or Fleetwood Mac (not sure what Fleetwood Mac would sound like on piano, I bet Landslide would sound nice).
