...whereas DailyMotion has a 20 minute upload limit; it means we have to split videos less and generally results in less hassle on our (the publishers'/encoders') part.

I'm kind of wondering the same (except not the youtube part)... ads on daily motion getting on my nerves. There got to be better embed video site without annoy pop up ads. How about Wegame.com?

I don't get any Ads from Daily Motion, that's because I'm on Firefox with Adblock Plus. Maybe that's a trick around it? =p

I think some of them had pop up every 1 or 2 minutes blocking 1/5 of video screen.. they were in video, not website part. (or was that Viddler?) *edit I'm pretty sure it WAS dailymotion, viddler looks different ads popping up. Did dailymotion changed the way to put ads in embed?

Viddler is the one with those ads, DailyMotion is awesome and keeps them out of the video and has them in a noninterrupting fashion. And YouTube just plain outright sucks.

When I watched the crash bandicoot 2 TAS today there were ad bars covering 1/3 of the video and it appeared every 10 seconds after clicking it off. I'm pretty sure that was on DailyMotion (I don't use viddler, too laggy). I think the best we could do is to use the videos webnations uploads to youtube. He doesn't have the 10min limit.

What? Must be region based... I say we're screwed to using AdBlock then.

Archive.org has the lowest quality audio.

Still, no video length limit + no ads.

yeah I noticed that youtube seem to be 30fps so samus is invisible in one out of two ladders, but that doesn't seem to be the main reason of the choice, I think it's more what mmbossman said.

I use Fanboy's filters in Opera to block the DailyMotion ads (I also block all popups by default): http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock/ It's even easier to install the filters in Firefox than in Opera (just a click away vs. downloading an INI file and putting it in the right place while Opera is closed), and they are also available for SRWare Iron (a special build of Chromium, the open-source project on which Chrome is based).

We get 70% of our information regarding the world around us from sight, so I would much rather have a good quality video stream at the expense of audio quality. In fact, several people (myself included) hardly ever watch runs with the sound on at all.

Btw, has anyone figured out why once in a blue moon YouTube and DailyMotion keep the videos at 60 fps upon processing?

For the ads on dailymotion: it's probably by region, I'm french (so that's why I asked because dailymotion being french too whereas youtube is english and more popular, I wondered why) and I often have to wait 15s before the movie start to see the ads about a car, ALWAYS this one. Sometime also, I can't put the movie in fullscreen to always see the ads around the movie about a channel. Also, a little inconvenient of dailymotion is that if you want to go 5 seconds later in a movie, you have to wait for like 60s to be streamed before clicking (so you prefer to wait at all), otherwhise you have to wait like if you clicked in a part not yet streamed. But if it's easier for you to upload, you're right.

As far as I can tell, all my videos on DM are 60 fps (or close to it).

The thing is, archive.org doesn't have better video. The aspect ratio can be off, and the resize smoothing is gone.

I wasn't particularly arguing for archive.org, just stating that lower sound quality is preferable in my eyes to lower video quality.

If you can find a site which has no time limit or file size limit on uploads, willing to accept our content, supports embedding the video from them on your own site, and has no whacky issues, we'll use it, just point it out.

I find audio extremely useful for judging a run aiming to obsolete a previous one. It's hard to "see" if something in a particular area was done slightly slower, but it's quite easy to "hear" the BGM to see if its later on in the music loop than the other run. Granted, this isn't applicable for every game, or can be inapplicable for certain parts of certain games, but when it's possible to use it, I always do.

Actually, in light of new information on how we stream stuff from archive, I think we can do away with Daily Motion and do a custom stream with awesome quality via archive!

That ads popping up is back again, I timed it somewhat, pops up every 1 minute to 1 minute 15 seconds. I had to click off 15 times in that 17 minutes video. I seek better embed video over DM, wegame.com no good?
