One of the few games I have in the original format. I am not sure if it would fit as a time-attack (boring to watch? too long?). What is your opinion on this?

If I remember correctly, both NES Metal Gear games are quite long but still watchable in one sitting for a timeattack. I personally think both would be pretty cool... -Josh

Umm, do you mean on the Famtasia EMU in FMV format. If so, submit it to Bisqwit as in Submitting to Bisqwit Interest depends on those criteria...oh, and don't worry about time... some of us WILL spend 17 hours to watch games like FF7, were they on NES :)

I care most about metal gear 2, cause it is the only one of those I have played. So I will probaly think about make a time-attack of it.

Well, I think the game could be very fast if you only collect the items needed. And the other thing: I meant I have the original game as a cart. :)

Sleepz tried to make a run of Metal Gear 1, but he found it to be boring and stopped. I never played either to any extent. Personally, I would try part one first, unless the two games are very different.

Yes, from the same team that brought you Castlevania, comes the "next installment" in the Metal Gear series. Having seen the first, excellent Metal Gear movie from this site, I wonder if there's interest with anyone in watching/recording one for this game?

I'd like to watch one, but I never played the game myself. I heard it's actually really bad compared to the first game, but that shouldn't matter. It will make an interesting movie. :)

People's main problem with Snake's Revenge is that "OMG It r not teh TR00 Metul Gear ii!!11" This despite the fact that 90% of Metal Gear fans never played the series until Metal Gear Solid. The little I played of it seemed to be pretty Metal Gear-ish to me, but I sucked at both of the NES games, so...

i played this a long time ago. if i remember correctly snake's revenge had a lot less stealth and more run and gunning which turned a lot of people off from it.

Yeah, they added 2D side-scrolling sections to it. Didn't work particularly well IMO. Plus the villain is named "Kockamamie"... Anyway, I could still see this turning out well, depends on what glitches there are. -Josh

Metal Gear has some sidescrolling sections.

Yes, but only when in the elevator shafts. SR boasts many more side-view areas and a completely new sprite for Snake while doing so!

I finished metal gear 2 back in the day as well. it wasn't nearly as bad as the psx "fans" say. it had alot more stealth then the first one did, very little "run and gun" gameplay at all. the only real complaints I had were: 1.it wasn't as open ended as the first, once you were done in a section you moved onto a new area, with no backtracking alot of items could be missed this way. 2.snake looks silly red ;-) 3. some of the bosses were a little too dificult (the bosses on the boat come to mind. and hey its the only game where you can be a 6 star general ;-)

That game was too tough for me when I was young too and even the game genie didn't help me out. I remember lots of place I got stuck on, like that stupid train where you had to find the right guy and some big complex with lots of places to go. I'd love to see this game ripped apart

I'm going to see what I can do for a speedrun of this game. I'll keep you posted in the coming weeks as to how it is going.

I've got the forest finished. (woop-de-doo) 1:24 elapsed so far. With my run I plan on doing several things: 1) Avoid taking damage. 2) Manipulate luck when killing enemies for ammo. 3) Use fists whenever possible. May have to scrap this technique for bosses (Nagmachon, for example, requires mines. Metal Gear requires 10 remote missles. Etc.) 4) Take no damage. Rations are obviously not needed in this run and will not be picked up. 5) Minimal items & kills possible. 6) Come as close to getting noticed as possible, with respect to not wasting time in doing so. 7) Finish with lowest ranking possible. I do not plan on saving prisoners if at all possible seeing they deserve to be kept if they were clumsy enough to get captured in the first place.

An update on what i've done so far.. (I work full-time so this is going to take a while to complete and updates will be few and far apart) I've got cards 1 & 2 already. Zero prisoners have been saved. I've elapsed 2:22. I'm approaching floor #2 of building 1. (It's about 3 screens away) Issues discovered so far: *Seeing this is my first run through MG2 and first time using FCEU, I had to work out a few issues but those have been straightened out. (Had a LOT of desync issues) *Apparently this game has a sensitive combat engine. If you are standing too close to the enemy's line of site (ELOS from here on) -- a vertical or horizontal pixel row, the game will sometimes sync up the enemies facing a different way on playback. (I.E., straight at you, resulting in a completely different movie) This requires me to play through a bit, replay the entire video, and make sure there aren't any desyncs going on with regards to the ELOS. I've researched this issue quite a lot and the only way around it was the following. If you take one step further away from the ELOS it will trigger the enemy to face in a specific direction every single time. This will prevent the guards from doing random things such as alarm because they now see me, turning away (and walking) in a different direction, or longer than anticipated pauses, from occurring. *It is possible to punch a guard and have him not notice you. Also, you can run through a guard when he is in this state. However, because of the desync issues I have not yet had a chance to research the possibility of using this technique. *I might run into an issue from not saving prisoners as my rank will always be one star, and that might result in not enough ammo for certain bosses. Hopefully this is not the case... Anyway, that's where I am. Thanks for reading.

#@$!!@$!@%. It just occurred to me that this isn't going to work -- not saving the prisoners. You need to be at a higher rank towards the end of the game to make it through an underwater part, among other things I am sure i have not recalled. I think you need about 3 or 4 oxygen tanks just to make it through that underwater part, or enough rations. But the thing is if you're at rank 1 you will never be able to hold enough rations to heal yourself and make it through, or tanks.
