The statement needs no correcting. YUV and RGB are both non-absolute colour spaces, so neither has a defined gamut. YUV is defined in terms of RGB. Any given YUV has a larger gamut than its RGB by definition. If you use a particular absolute implementation of RGB (say, sRGB) then the associated YUV will have a larger gamut.

Even if that's so, there are probably no practical consequences once you get to brightnesses rivaling that of the core of the Sun (which is probably achievable by colorspaces which use floating point).
