Mario Party is a party video game featuring characters from the Mario franchise. It combines the mechanics of board games with more than 50 different minigames. The two modes of Mario Party are Adventure Mode, the standard mode of play with up to four players, and Minigame Island, a single player mode which forgoes the board game mechanics and has you win minigames to progress through the levels.
The game spawned a long-running series of party games which includes 9 numbered home console installments (the latest being Mario Party 10 for Nintendo Wii U) and 3 handheld games (the latest being Mario Party: Island Tour for Nintendo 3DS).
