About me
Hi I'm Comicalflop, I'm 19 years old, I live in Massachusetts and I go to UMASS Dartmouth. I joined this site 2006-06-13, after spending months looking at these amazing videos. I first got into TASing when in 2004 my brother showed me Morimoto's
SMB3 TAS (back when nobody knew it was a TAS) and I started thinking about speedrunning videogames. Through my initial feeble attempts I offhandedly discovered this site, and dove right into making a Donkey Kong Country 2 TAS. I was made an editor as of 2006-12-04. I have this tendency to get easily distracted and start thinking about/working on different projects, even though I'm supposed to be focusing on one major one.
Published Runs/Contributions
Workbench
SSB High Score Time Attack. Rejected. Man was this one controversial. But for anyone that wants to see: Downloadable SSB High Score TAS (this site is down?)
I doubt anything new from me is going to the workbench in a very long while, especially since I've completely converted to N64 games/SNES games that take more effort/time to make.
Current Projects
- Mario Kart 64 150cc GP 4 cups. People demanded it. Mariokart64.com made me test it. Fantastic results dictated that I work on this. Top Priority!
- Jet Force Gemini AHHHHHHHHH absolutely beautiful game to TAS, I have 100% committed to doing this. This is the run that I had been searching for, with the perfect blend of high speed sci-fi action, third/first person extreme shooting bloodbaths, bug gore, sniping, explosions, etc. And it's going to be a 2 controller run as well (the first N64 TAS to do so, I believe.) Projected finish time: anywhere over 4-5 months, most likely more. I have high hopes for the end result.
- slightly stalled. Eschebone is taking a very long time to plan and execute, and my ADD in picking up new projects isn't helping. I am never abandoning this though. Will pick up once MK64 is completed.
- Discovering good N64 games to TAS. I download ROMs and test out which ones would make great candidates. One of the biggest concerns is N64 games that desynch; currently a method for discovering how to solve this is being researched. The expansion pak is a definite sign that a N64 ROM might desynch; this does not appear to be the case for every single exp pak game however. And some N64 ROMs just don't work at all.
- DKC2 102% Improvement Due to Jet Force Gemini, work is stalled, don't know how long it'll stay that way. Every now and then I'll work on this.
- currently waiting for Arne_the_great to finish his DKC2 any% before I start on world 3, just to see what he's done to certain levels that I can learn from.
- Assisting Freezing_Inferno with his DKC2 any% SS run, and DRybes's DKC2 102% SS. Progress here
Upcoming:
A secret project. Will be revealed when official WIP is ready.
Potential Future Projects:
- Quake 64
- Doom 64
- Star Soldier
- Starcraft 64
- Knife Edge: Nose Gunner
- F-Zero X
- Body Harvest
- Diddy Kong Racing
- Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
- Open to suggestions. Keep in mind SNES and N64 is my forte.

Runs that I've tried and failed/put on hold
I tended to frantically search for different TASes to work on, since I get TAS withdrawl if I'm not working on runs. I'd pick up and drop runs left and right, though thankfully as of now I have 4 strong runs that I'm going to see to completion.
- Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards 100%
- Officially put on hold forever. It's easy to make, but overall not entertaining/fast.
- Kirby Dreamland 3: 100%
- It's faster paced than Kirby 64 100%, however the possibility of 2 player was daungting to me, and I lost interest, despite having discovered turbo Coo flying for fastest movement.
- Rayman 2: The Great Escape any%
- Mega huge/frequent desynchs, a four hour long projected movie, but biggest of all the boss consistently disappears in the 7th level, so I can't beat him. Plus, the fact that Rayman's turning always caused the camera to move in bad ways made it impossible to always go in straight lines.
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 100%
- good thing I gave up after barely 2 days of trying it. Hurray for spezzafer picking it up again!
- Starcraft 64
- Quite simply an RPS like this is going to be difficult, but the biggest problems were desynching and the fact that units did not know how to speedrun, and stopped to attack enemy units in range. I think I might've found a way around both problems, but I haven't tested it thoroughly enough.
- Donkey Kong Country series Tri run
- This was a bad idea to even suggest.
- Perfect Dark
- yeah, desynching games suck. I couldn't even get past the menu because it was so desynchy. Good luck to L4yer to work on it.
- Duke Nukem 64
- AKA is going to finish this one; I had too much on my plate to help out.
- Super Mario Kart 150cc Bowser all cups run. Co-authored with Huffers for a while. He had accomplished more than I did, I had not as much skill in item manipulation, Huffers has his own luck-bot, and I switched to MK64.
