- So this game caught my eyes a while ago, and noticed that the best ending version of this game was not done yet. I decided to make one for this category, though due to my irl stuff (studies and work), I took it a bit slowly. It wasn't that complicated to understand and make, but it was challenging a bit especially with RNG manipulation
- I made use of current Any% run by feos and MESHUGGAH. Their run is fantastic and it was always a reference to return to for tricks and details.
- RNG manipulation seemed horrible at the start, as the first boss REFUSED to give me the pattern I want that's similar to Any% run, with all possible adjustments I could think of, so I had to give up around 11 frames to not good kill height. Thankfully, other bosses were either free of RNG manipulation or easier to handle.
- This game has a big lag problem, which is quite difficult to handle properly. It becomes even worse after purchasing extra two HP slots which are necessary to obtain the remaining treasure map piece. I decided to delay the purchase until before Scotland area so the lag isn't increased in earlier areas.
- Oh, there is also a 4 seconds improvement to Any% in MU. Instead of going all the way to the end of the first screen, you can just get the item that let's pull heavy objects then fall down after to take a quick shortcut. It can be seen at 6:33 in the above encode. (EDIT: Turns out it's not possible as it requires pogo upgrade from Bermuda area. There is a slight chance it's still faster though, but by a marginal amount of frames.)
- All in all, this was a fun little project to work on. I felt it would be cool to showcase this category as well and revive this game (Any% run is from 2013 which is around 13 years ago now.. Time flies!)
And eventually we defeated D-1000, saved Webby, and got the treasures we want!
Challenger: Claiming for judging.
Challenger: Updated the run with an 80 frame improvement.
Challenger: I have been present on TASVideos for over 15 years and I did realize nobody made a TAS of this category until now. With the knowledge of the current any% TAS, tricks, glitches and optimizations found over 20 years, as well as the best ending RTA run, everything went well for the new mission after all. The routing without the need to revisit some stages while showing more of the game (including an extra stage) is another great achievement.
Accepting the run to Standard as well as a new "best ending" branch. Excellent job as always, McBobX!
