A bad hockey game for GG.
Game objectives
- Emulator used: BizHawk 2.9.1
- Genre: sports
- Win the game
- Aims for fastest time
Comments
Period length is set to minimum 5 minutes as default, so we can just start the game immediately.
We make one goal to win the game at some point.
Then we wait for the timer to end while avoiding interruptions and lag.
This game does not progress automatically to the next period, so we can not end input early. We are even required to push some buttons to enter the ending screen, which is rare for old hockey games. In the end we are rewarded with a demoscene effect showcasing rotating stars and a list of the most valuable players.
This is perhaps a good contender for the top 100 worst TASes ever on the whole site, on account of the game mechanics, graphics, sound and a general lack of meaningful TAS-like content despite it being a TAS that aims for fastest time.
Possible timesave: Reduce lag. I'm sure lag can be reduced forever, so maybe set this to 'delayed' for a few months, so that somebody can try reducing lag if they want. There is nothing to co-author here, so if you remove 1 frame of lag the credit is all yours if you want to take it. Then the shame is also yours.
Welp, have a nice day!

DrD2k9: Decided I don't want to tackle judging this one...at least for now. Setting to "NEW" for another judge. I may come back to it eventually if no one else does.
nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: This is a weird situation, but I think my explanation should do for accepting this. Let's look at two things:
1. Lag: I analyzed the lag here and this is not the type of lag that had the ability to be controlled. From what I've analyzed, this is code induced lag...which is the way the game runs. I've seen this on many other games and it is not the same kind of lag that you can control. I would relate it more to the code trying to "poll" for inputs, rather than using interups. I can't prove that, but it doesn't matter...since I don't see a way to change it.
2. IGT: The length of this game is controlled by a fixed running time, which can't be undone. So for each period, you have to control your players to allow it to coast its way through to the end of the timer....which is accomplished with as little effort as I can see is possible.
One note to consider. I think I see why DrD2k9 dropped this. If I had TASed this, I would have chosen "maximum score", which would have been way more entertaining, but you do have a technical "baseline" here which meets our standard goals.
