Home Alone ends input faster with a faster route.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Ends input early
  • Uses easiest difficulty
  • Genre: Action
This is an improvement to this: https://tasvideos.org/5164M
2340 old time
1307 new time
1033 frames improved
The input file is shorter, but the encode length is always the same.
The game begins at 529 frames, so the gameplay length is only 778 frames or 13 seconds.
Instead of using the robot glitch I take a tire as an item pickup and then use it to make a high jump onto the elevator. We then wait behind the elevator while the bandits try to catch us until the time runs out.
Co-authors are welcome because this is the game that I hate most. Everything about the game is surprisingly difficult and weird to optimize.

Sledge ride

This section is a 4-second racing game that requires perfect acceleration, perfect deceleration, perfect wall bounce, perfect item pickup position and lag reduction. I hate it. If you are a racing game taser, then please improve this section by a few frames.
Beating any of the checkpoints should improve the time:
594 snowman destroyed
658 tire pickup
782 'enter house' text visible
The tire pickup is 1 frame slower than what I've seen because of lag!

2D platforming

This is a few seconds of gameplay that requires perfect jumping and nothing much else. I do not understand it and I hate it. The tire jump is difficult to do perfectly. The whole section probably requires perfect pixel/subpixel positions. If you are a 2D platformer taser, then please improve this section by a few frames. Pressing up has a strange effect on the jump length, so it feels weird and I just love it.
These are the checkpoints to beat:
1167 elevator rise starts
1307 end input

Possible improvements

I think it is possible to manipulate RNG so that the enemies waste more time in the house. If we enter the first house immediately and then do random movements, then maybe the bandits waste too much time and we win the game? I've seen the spider hit the bandits 14 times for example. But that was not the best result. My best result was just some random movements inside the house and then ending input early. The bandits wasted 2 minutes and 17 seconds more time compared to their fastest loot that I have seen. If the looting time can be increased 5 minutes more than what I got, then we are close to being able to survive to the end and the bandits have no time to loot all the houses. I got my slow loot result in a few attempts, so better results probably exist. Sometimes setting traps in different rooms makes the looting faster, sometimes slower. It seems very random and it is difficult to test all possibilities manually because we have to wait a long time in each attempt to see how it goes. Any house could have some random setup for ending input early, but the first house is probably the best choice because it is the fastest to enter.
(It is possible to win by getting caught repeatedly. The bandits waste so much time re-catching us that the time runs out. This requires player input, so it is not useful for a TAS.)
Please leave this as 'delayed' for some time and wait if somebody wants to improve the sledge ride or the 2D platforming section.

Samsara: Claiming for judging.
Samsara: Setting to Delayed as per the author's request two lines up. Judging will resume on May 15th, 2026 assuming no further updates happen prior.
Samsara: Doesn't seem like anyone's interested in improving this, so accepting as an improvement to the published run.
