Goal Choice

All versions (the complete and released ones at least) of Resident Evil 2 include a bonus mode named The 4th Survivor, which is a precursor to similar modes in later installments of the series. The Tofu Survivor is an alternation and a parody of the said mode where the player character is replaced by To-fu, literally. While this version of the mode is supposed to be harder as the player is equipped with only a knife, it does not make a difference here.
Quoting Uroboros
The choice to use To-fu over Hunk in this TAS is ultimately for comedic effects. In fact, I originally wanted to submit the movie on April 1. I didn't make it on time, but better late than never. :P

Version differences

Quoting Samsara
To quote TCRF:
  • New controls options including a more conventional movement scheme, which the game calls "First Person" control, wholly different from the game's signature "tank controls". This new control scheme is camera centric rather than character centric. More than a mere difference in button mapping it allows the player to move in such ways that is not possible with the default control scheme: it is possible to make the character walk/run from any direction to any other direction instantly, bypassing the need to turn the character around towards the wanted direction before advancing. Dodging enemies or re-positioning the character before shooting is considerably easier. The same control scheme will years later also be added to the "HD Remaster" versions of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero.
  • The Nintendo 64 version added several cheat codes not present in the original PlayStation version... Play The To-Fu Survivor: Up, Down, Left, Right, Left (x2), Right (x2), L, R, C-Up, C-Left, C-Down, C-Right.
  • 4th Survivor & To-fu Survivor: The Nintendo 64 has the timer, but not the rank screens, making it an "in-between" version despite coming out more than a year after the PlayStation Dual Shock Version.
Sorry to disappoint those looking forward to the artwork depicting Hunk and To-fu spending time together after the mission. :(
Thanks to the cheat codes exclusive to this version, the movie starts from clean SRAM and access the game mode that way.
The First Person control option is chosen at the start of the movie. Note that despite all the benefits described above, it limits the player to only 8 specific directions of movement in a room at the same time. Nevertheless, it should make things faster and, if nothing else, more different than on the other versions.

Strategy

Room 8

Running into a crow from a certain angle toward the end of the room gave To-fu a slight boost.

Rooms 9, 11, and 23

I was not able to "skip" the last camera switch before existing these rooms like in the GC movie. Probably a version difference.

Room 19

The super Licker close to the exit does not attempt a jumping slash like on the other versions for some reason. To-fu was made to run around it without getting scratched instead.

Time comparison?

The movie finishes with an in-game time of 1:58. It is longer than the published GameCube movie, but the times between these two versions probably cannot be directly compared reasonably.
This time beats all but 2 RTA records, done on the PC version in Japanese which means the text upon climbing the ladder at the end of Room 4 would be shorter than in this movie.
Note that the intro of the mode in this movie is longer than in most RTA footage because the mode is being played for the first time here. This does not affect the in-game timing.

Special Thanks

  • Uroboros for the GameCube 4th Survivor movie.
  • YOU, for reading the submission text and watching the movie.

Tegron: Claiming for judging.

Tegron: This is a really well optimized TAS for this mode.
After taking a closer look at the TAS from the RTA, this TAS appears to be slower than the current WR, but based on the differences between the N64 and PC versions that I noticed while comparing both videos, I can conclude that the slower IGT is due to the version differences. On the N64, the game starts with a 1 second time from start, compared to the PC version, so I didn’t include that. I noticed a slight difference in IGT, but it isn’t that significant. Instead, I compared the RTA on the PS2, which also has nearly the same IGT system and is over 1.330 faster, Nice work!
