Weirdly violent hockey skipframes.
The SNES/Genesis versions are different games.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11
  • Genre: Sports
  • Wins the game
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Ends input early
The announcer is removed to save time.
I was hoping to make a simple hockey TAS, but this is actually the hardest hockey game that I know.
The game timer is buggy and can run a little bit faster if players are down, but it is not as simple as that and I do not understand it. I made a manual TAS anyway.
This game does not progress automatically, so we need to extend our input up to the beginning of the 3rd period. The last remaining challenge is to win the 3rd round without input. This can be done by random movements during the goal celebration. If the opponent can make own goal in the 3rd period without user input, then 711 frames can be saved, but I don't know if it is possible or not.
The last screen says 'END OF GAME' and there is celebration music, so this can be considered the ending of the game?
With maybe 20,000 rerecords I could improve the time by about 70 frames, but the game is chaotic and very difficult to optimize, so I would rather do something else. Even botting it is probably difficult.
There is another game with the same engine called 'Brett Hull Hockey' which has the same crazy optimization challenge of the 'anti-lag frames' that can speed up the timer a little bit.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: I have finally resolved everything that I was curious about. Lacking automatic continuation to the next period, is a real bummer. Anyway, this run seems to meet the same effort of achieving minimal input to carry it all the way to the end for a win.
Accepting to "Standard".
