This is an improvement of 158 frames (2.63 seconds) over the currently published movie.
Emulator: FCEUX 2.2.2, Old PPU.
Goal: Any%
  • Takes damage to save time.
  • Takes pictures to save time.
  • Writes letters to save time (An internet hug as a prize for the first to recognise the letters in each picture level. I hope you can read. If you can't, doesn't matter, you don't know there's a prize.)
  • Takes too long to finish TASing the game because I'm lazy (also to save time, obviously).

New Tricks

Misdirected Knockback

  • When an enemy is hit by the player's bullet, the enemy is knocked back in the direction the player is facing on the frame the enemy is hit, rather than the frame the bullet is shot.

Level by Level Comparison

Stage 3-2 - 96 frames saved

Misdirected knockback is used on the boss, bringing the boss closer. This means bullets take less long to hit the boss, and so the next one can be fired sooner. Taking damage from a bullet is faster than jumping over it when the boss is near enough.

Stage 4-2 - 1 frame lost

The frame is lost due to random lag in the transition from the previous stage. I couldn't find any way around it.

Stage 5-4 - 63 frames saved

An extra falling platform is skipped by a different jumping pattern. This saves time as they reset your speed to 0. A bullet was fired during a necessary waiting section to hit the boss without stopping. Misdirected knockback stopped the boss from slowing down the player as the player jumped over the boss.

Special Thanks to:

HoZKiNZPooP: for bringing the misdirected knockback glitch to my attention.
TehSeven: for moral support and reminding me about the TAS (*cough*)

Tompa: Judging.
Tompa: Frames were saved, people were happy, the run was accepted, the Moon was bright that day.
Guga: Processing...
feos: Guga is still sitting on claimed publications for undefined amount of time, way longer that they would actually take to encode and upload. Since it's been a habit (can't recall when exactly that started), this submission is being passed over to another publisher, and if Guga takes more than a week to publish one of his future claimed runs, I'll have to revoke his publication ability. This was also sent to him via forum PM.
Spikestuff: Meow.
