there is not much to this game, most of it involves as much lag reduction as possible, though most of it is completely unavoidable at times, especially in later stages like the music stage.
you have a projectile that shoots downwards and sometimes upwards. hitting enemies with them the first time freezes them, and the second time kills them. I sometimes hit enemies with these projectiles to stop there movement, this reduces lag somewhat.
after every stage you play a matching game. in RTA you would just fail it right away, but it's actually faster to complete it perfectly. one benifit to doing this is after the 3rd stage, you dont have to play them anymore.
the hardest levels to TAS were the mermaid stages, hitting the A button on every other green frame allows barbie to move at maximum speed. it's annoying because I had to hide lag frames to make sure I got it on every other green frame as much as possible. if you wanna know where most of the rerecords came from, it's these stages. also barbie's mermaid sprite is huge, so it's difficult to get around some enemies.
you also dont want to get hit at all because this pauses the game for about 2 seconds each time. sometimes you can take damage and not halt the game, but it's very precise on how it works.
That's pretty much it, nothing else I can think of to say. the game is very very crappy, which was more reason for me to TAS it.
ThunderAxe31: Judging.
ThunderAxe31: There was mention in the submission thread about a glitch that could save time, however the requirements for triggering it are currently unknown.
While the run is enough optimized, it's not showcasing any notable trick and the audience reception was mediocre. Accepting for Vault.
ThunderAxe31: File replaced with a 289-frame improvement, accepted again.
