Table of contents
Using our streaming media accounts.
New publications should be added to our accounts.
Current accounts
- Dailymotion
Only the official encode should be uploaded. For dailymotion it may need to be segemented.
Viddler
Uploading
- Upload the files using batch upload. Viddler's simple upload won't allow MKV files!
- Use the tags "Tool-assisted" and "Speedrun"
- Other tags such as the other, genre, etc. are acceptable to add in addition to those.
Name
- If a movie aims for time use the format of: Platform Game "Category" in Time by Author
- Playarounds (any movie that doesn't have fastest time as one of its goals) use: Platform Game "Playaround" by Author
- Do not use the time of the movie
- Movies that have time as a secondary goal (and thus the time is relevant) do not use this format
- These are not playarounds:
- Score runs, they aim for highest score in shortest time. Speed is a secondary goal.
- Movies with speed/entertainment trade-offs. They still aim for time but make some exceptions.
- All this information should be identical to the published movie
Description
- Add a URL link to the actual publication
- If you simply type the URL link without the html markup Viddler will do if for you. But Viddler will change the captial M to m, breaking the link. This means you have to save the edit, then re-edit and manually change 'm" to 'M' in the link.
- Add the movie's description below the URL link.
Group
- Add to the TASVideos.org group
Obsoletion
- If the movie obsoletes a published movie, remove the movie from the TASVideos.org group and add it to the TASVideos-obsoletions group.
Link
- Add the url to the movie page once the movie is published. (At this time, these links can not be added pre-publication).
Dailymotion
Segments
- Movies on daily motion are limited to 20 minutes. If the video file is longer than this, it will need to be segemented. (TODO: write up how to easily do this with vdub)
Uploading
- Dailymotion has no batch uploading. Each segment will have to be done one at a time.
- Make sure the tags, name, etc. are the same for each segment.
Name
- Unfortunately Dailymotion limits names to 60 characters. This is too small for many of our movies.
- If a movie aims for fastest time use this naming convention:
- Platform Game "Category" in Time by Author
- Playarounds (any movie that doesn't have fastest time as one of its goals) use: Platform Game "Playaround" by Author
- Do not use the time of the movie
- Movies that have time as a secondary goal (and thus the time is relevant) do not use this format
- These are not playarounds:
- Score runs, they aim for highest score in shortest time. Speed is a secondary goal.
- Movies with speed/entertainment trade-offs. They still aim for time but make some exceptions.
- All this information should be identical to the published movie
Shortening the Name
- If the name can't be done in 60 characters, here are some guidelines to shortening it
- Do NOT shorten the platform name
- Shorten the game name to by leaving out a subtitle or abbreviating if it is a VERY common abbreviation
- The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time could be Ocarina of Time (avoid using OoT)
- Sonic the Hedgehog could be Sonic 1
- 'and' can be replaced with ',' to separate authors
- The fractional part of the time can be taken off
- Remove spaces between dashes
- In summary, preserve the platform, the author's names, and keep the game name as easily recognizable as possible.
Description
- Add a URL link to the tasvideos.org movie page in the description.
- Add the movie's description below this.
Tags
- Use 'Tool-assisted' and 'Speedrun'
- Other tags such as the authors or the genre are okay too.
Channel
- Select Gaming
Group
- Add to the group "Tool Assisted Speedruns
Obsoletion
- If the movie obsoletes a published movie, remove the movie from the Tool Assisted Speedruns group and add it to the TASVideos-obsoletions group.
Link
- Add the url to the movie page once the movie is published. (At this time, these links can not be added pre-publication).
