This is really cool stuff! Not only is the guy fast, he also uses bugs and glitches and rocket-jumps (!). Get the demo here: http://www.geocities.com/e6y/doom.html It's worth it. I swear. =) You'll need original Doom 2 v1.9 and a port that supports playing back old Doom demos - PRBoom is a sure bet. However, for those who don't have Doom 2 v1.9, I managed to make an avi of the demo with "ok" quality but I haven't got around to/figured out how to make a torrent out of it yet.

I had been wondering who made the avi of Andrey's run, but I thought I'd elaborate more on the demo, in case you are not aware. The demo is built much like the runs on this site, using slowdown and such to create more perfect times, rather than a pure skill run. Andrey doesn't specifically say that the demo is tool-assisted (TAS) but rather says he "made slight modifications to the source code for a more comfortable record." In case this created any confusion, there you go. The place to go to for actual udoom/doom2/fdoom world records is the Compet-N at http://www.doom2.net/compet-n/index.cgi . You can find demos for all different kinds of playing styles, even Nightmare movie runs. The current doom2 UV speed movie record is 26:09 right now (quite a difference between that and the cheated time :), and it will be included in the next site update which should occur on Easter weekend, so be on the lookout for it. :)

Actually I was aware that Andrey's run was cheated and had plans for a disclaimer in the movie but I couldn't manage to add one without the movie going out of sync so I skipped it. Had no idea that it would be so widley spread outside this community so the disclaimer didn't feel that important to me. To me a run through Doom II in 14:41 using basically all known short-cuts and glitches is waaay more fun to watch than a 26:09 run of Doom II. And that's what this site is all about. Kind of like watching an action movie; I know a handgrenade doesn't explode into a napalm inferno demolishing an entire building, but it looks much more spectacular than an actual handgrenade. I don't mean to take any credit away from the compet-n players, they are really good at what they do and completing Doom II in 26 mins in one sitting is impressive.

I know... =( The tracker I used was attacked and the owner shut it down. However, it can be found here nowadays: http://www.gamershell.com/download_5369.shtml Have also seen it a couple of times on kazaa and direct connect. Let me know if theres any trouble getting ur hands on it. In that case we'll arrange something like I send it to u over ICQ or sumfin.

It was TA in the way that levels were played separetly and then forged together, like Quake done Quick i.e. one level was played until they were satisfied with the result and then they started the next level with the same stats. So the entire game was not played in one sitting but each level was.

Somewhat. No cheats like slowdown is used when the demos are recorded, but the basic process for a Doom Done Quick movie, as well as the popular Quake Done Quick series (http://www.planetquake.com/qdq/), is that each level is tackled one at a time by the people in the team, the fastest time that results from this effort is saved, and the team moves onto the next level. This goes on until the entire episode/game is finished, which is when the team uses a utility to paste the demos together and form the complete movie. I should mention that there are nightmare runs for Doom without any tools at all. Those are incredible. 8) I can barely finish three levels on nightmare, and I have been playing Doom a LOT. ---- Not like anyone cares, but the 14:41 guy makes a 1-second mistake in The Focus. I saw some other things too but I'm not as sure those were mistakes as that one. :) A lot has happened on the Doom scene since I last checked it seems - this video has a lot of rocket jumps, I only knew about the one in level 3.

It can be that way when you don't know the levels, and don't know what tricks to expect. Especially in the rocket jumps, the screen goes all red and it's very hard to keep track of where the player went if you don't know where he's supposed to go. You can try watching non-TAS demos first to get the hang of it, they are naturally a bit slower.

heh, just watched this thing. Loved how he uses the arch vile in bloodfalls to boost him to the exit., then uses an arch vile to open the exit door in Monster Condo. Good stuff. Now, I read in a previous post that slowdown was added, but could a rerecord function have been possible? Sure, loading saves wouldn't be instant like in emulators, but might it be brought down to the point where it's barely noticeable?

He used something named TAS (tool-assisted), which means he could re-record and use slowmode, plus various other stuff.

They should make runs with Legacy Co-op with some nasty Megawads like Herian, bowels of hell, AV, Requiem... or even Doom TNT! They would be more intresting to watch than same old Doom stages all over again...
