desyncs are caused by many things... one thing is to have the control settings set to player 1 - 3 buttons, player 2 - 3 buttons. ...also make sure that the music/audio is up to the version you're playing. NTSC - 44100, PAL - 22500? (i dont have an emulator at the moment). also... i think one of the sound channels is good for nothing and causes desyncs... i cant remember which one though... DAC i think, but i could be wrong. ...no rings... hmm... might be entertaining... depends on how its handled.

How can sound channels cause desyncs, they only determine what is played. I have never had any trouble with all of them on, anyway.

Sound channels can affect sync if their behaviour is non-deterministic and other in-game actions depend on when a sound effect is played. Do you really need that large picture for your signature?

Hi Q, what's the status on this project? It's been a few months and there's been no news on it.

Found a shortcut in Chemical Plant Zone 2. Can only be done in Sonic and Tails mode. http://www.savefile.com/files/1040460

Thanks, but I already know about that shortcut - I successfully hex-edited it into my current run about a month ago.

Gah I saw Quietust posted the Sonic 2 topic and got all excited!! Would you mind telling us how close you are to completing this run?

I still need to do Metropolis Zone (all 3 acts), followed by Sky Chase (boring autoscroller), Wing Fortress (probably the same route as before), and finally Death Egg (business as usual). I've been busy with other stuff lately, and I'm not particularly looking forward to redoing Metropolis Zone - it was hard enough to get it right for my previous run, considering how long all of the levels are.

I forgot to ask a few questions (and if you've answered it already, my apologies): Are you controlling Tails with the second controller in this run for running up the nuts in Metropolis Zone, or are you controlling him indirectly the same way you did in the last run? Does the Chemical Plant 1 shorcut that FractalFusion posted require the second controller, or can that be done indirectly? Also, since I'm posting, any Metropolis progress?

1. Yes, I am controlling Tails directly in all places where it can result in a speedup. 2. Yes, it requires using the 2nd controller, since Sonic needs to stop at the bottom of the ramp while Tails goes ahead and jumps up to the left. 3. About 13 seconds into the 1st act and 6 frames saved so far.

To clarify, it is possible to do it indirectly, but it is faster with the second controller. (At the time, I didn't think Quietust was going to use the second controller to control Tails).

It might be possible to do with a single controller, though it's highly unlikely (and would be very slow as well).

Courtesy of Rolken (TSC webmaster): www.soniccenter.org/mike89/HT1.giz (requires Gens+ to play) That's a recording of me completing HT1 in a new TSC record of 45 seconds, and demonstrating a glitch that Rolken found not long ago. It's a shame Quietust is up to Metropolis... could you attempt to hexedit this in?

An interesting shortcut... I'll have to see if it saves me any time.

You can get it so you land on the spring on the far right spindashing as you fall and realeasing at the right time.

I've just made use of that shortcut (using the falling platform to take me through the floor, then holding LEFT to zip through the walls) and managed to shave off over 6 seconds from my previous 'redo' time. Timed exactly perfectly, I was able to zip to just before the lava in the earthquake section (inside the floor to the right of that rock I normally have to break). A pity I wasn't able to zip through the lava and out to the exit - whenever I tried, I'd stop just short of the lava and fall out the bottom of the level. I was able to hexedit my other progress on easily, only losing 20 or so frames due to differently timed level transitions.

The planing for a chaos emerald run will take ages although its much more knuckles friendly but I'd still rather see Super Sonic than Super Knuckles. I've used the super sonic cheat and I didn't really find it that useful for being quick apart from Metropolis and Wing Fortress. You also have to remember that the specials takes forever to complete due to their automatedness. That would probally add at least another twelve minutes even more and what would be the best way to play them. I wouldn't want a 100% ring collection because that would mean getting perfects. I'd much rather see odd rings getting picked up and the last available ring being collected so Sonic barely passes each section.

You sure do enjoy taking credit for things! At this rate, we'll be able to suck all the fun out of Sonic 2 as well!

Um, what exactly is the glitch and how do you perform it? Also, why is your name Mr. Sweed and not DMTM?

It doesn't look like a legitimate trick to me ... look how fast he accelerates at the start. It seems likely some modification of the game has taken place.
