there are many things once thought impossible that people have achieved. the 4 minute mile is just an arbitrary example.

Look gas take a deep breath and reread the last page or two. Yours is not a position you should be defending, pick your battles.

I don't why people are in such an uproar over my comments; I'm just saying that running is firmly ingrained in human society thus more and more people will eventually achieve 4 minute mile, whereas as video games evolve less people remain playing SM so the chances of a 32 min run being repeated grow slimmer.

Why do you keep bringing proportionality in to this? Using your logic: -Many people never thought that we could harness the power of light. -Many people never thought that the 4 minute mile was possible. -Since, in the past 50 years, 2000 people have confirmed running a 4 minute mile, that means that only 2000 people every 50 years (or 40 people a year) are able to operate light bulbs. See where the logic is faulted? You're trying to compare things which shouldn't be compared in such a manner. It doesn't matter to what extent people are now capable of beating the the 4 minute mile, or how many people in how much time have done so: what matters is that we eventually broke that barrier. No one claimed that thousands of people are going to start breaking the Super Metroid barriers. Why are you bringing it up? So, as everyone has said, please stop posting.

I will just post this to explain my reasons for using the 4 minute mile as an analagy. when I was in high school a read a either a poem or short story about the breaking of the 4 minute mile - when I was watching the SM run when it came out and I read the news post with it in - the emotions expressed in the poem came back to me. the exileration, the excitiment, the disbelieve. so when I saw this topic I felt like writing this down instead of just thinking it. Not stop this stupid argument laughing gas.
