Hmm...that game looks okay but not as cool as The Second Reality 2.Did I tell you it's won some awards: First Place: Best Super Mario World-Hack (First Annual Hacker Awards 2002, by TEKhacks) Second Place: Best Changed Graphics (First Annual Hacker Awards 2002, by TEKhacks) First Place: Best Changed Graphics (Second Annual Hacker Awards 2003, by TEKhacks)

I played the first 3 worlds of Luigi's Adventure and I really dont even want to see a TAS of it. The game is extremely boring with completely straightforward levels. The level design is very old fashioned and it's almost like playing an SMB3 hack: most of the graphics like the fireflower, the leaf, koopas, goombas etc. have been changed to SMB3 graphics. There are hardly any SMW elements in the game. The game is also very very easy and the secret exits (so far) are ridiculously easy to find. There was one level where the key was just sitting right next to the keyhole just before the end of the level. What's the point? The Second Reality Project was much more inventive and complex, I don't recommend TASing Luigi's Adventure.

I love SMB3, it is one of my favorites. I think Mixing it up with SMW makes this game very good. (In my opinion)

Guys, Again, if someone wants to start working seriously on one of these hacks, you need to have it approved by Bisqwit first. If not, you'll be working on a run which is likely to be rejected regardless of its quality. Don't set yourself up for that kind of disappointment.

It seems to me that a run with incredible quality and entertainment aspects would probably be allowed, even if it was a hack. But that's just my opinion, although it is partially based off this site's text. I don't see why the judges would reject a movie that accomplishes this site's goal of creating entertainment just because it's a hack. But recently this site has been moving away from entertainment.

You mean he doesn't take bribes anymore? :P Last I checked the going rate was ten dollars per violation of the site guidelines.

I agree with Xkeeper. It's ridiculous to think that a good quality movie of TSRP wouldn't be published when there are movies of games like Jaws, Astyanax, Castle of Dragon, Circus Charlie etc. on the site.

I'm not saying I don't agree. All I'm saying is that hacks aren't accepted on this site. Sometimes an exception is made. If you assume your particular hack is 100% to be accepted after you submit a TAS of it I think you're setting yourself up to be very disappointed.

I agree with Fabian. It's best to ask if the hack is approved before you do a run of it. Else, don't expect it to be published at ALL. Super Mario Demo World is an expection because it's an excellent hack, while many other hacks out there aren't as good or absolute crap. AIR is a good hack because it clearly shows all the glitches and bugs you can abuse in the various NES Mario games, so it's educational... to a degree, anyway. Lately I've been noticing that there's a lot of topics about hacked games. It'd be great to see speedruns of these, but keep in mind that this site show runs of OFFICIAL games, not unofficial ones. I'm pretty sure Bisqwit doesn't want to change the site drastically and keep the focus on the official games. Just my 2 cents.

You really, HONESTLY think that AIR is a good hack? Or are you just trying to justify it being published? EDIT: Oh, and another thing I forgot to say about Luigi's Adventure is that it lags horribly at some (many) places. It's extremely annoying especially if there are tricky jumps to make. Sometimes entire levels lag, like the water level after castle 7.

If a New Game+ of Chrono Trigger can be published, then I don't think there should be many restrictions on what kind of stuff gets published.

There are rules on why it is not accepted, but I think it should be on the viewer to accept or not an hacked game.

I have noticed this. It is sad because, i really liked this game, and now i have to forget about it. Unless some genius finds a way to avoid the lag, i will have to work on something else. =(

I played through the first world +1.5 levels of this game and was not impressed. The game is hard simply for the sake of being hard, the levels look like a bunch of sprites shot-gunned into a level editor, and I don't like the colors. Things that were added in to make the game seem new and improved, such as the death shrooms, the shells you have to bounce on twice to stop, and the block-activating-switch didn't seem to enhance the quality of play. It just seemed like they were put in because they thought adding new features would make their game a good hack or something, without regard to why they picked the features they did.

Guys, Quoted from the big man himself: [19:18:49] <Bisqwit> > It has to be notable (stands above every other hack for that game), for a good game, and stable&final (updates aren't to be expected), and entertaining to watch being played, and significantly different from the actual game I think this means we won't be having any more accepted hacks of the SMW engine, since if nothing else, they'd all (except SDW) fail on the first point.

Actually I'm playing an interesting one right now, it's called Super Challenge World. I'm currently liking it more than SDW but I'm not very far into the game so we'll see. SCW also has 120 exits.

Super Challenge World is actually my friend's hack. He made it back when we were first learning to use Lunar Magic (the SMW hacking tool), so there are some level design improvements and bug fixes that could be done. Also, he miscountend the number of exits (there are actually 109). But, in my opinion, the levels are inventive and fun; some exits require knowledge of minor glitches or little-known properties to complete. A while ago, I made this TAS of the game for fun (it's up to Frosty Cave 2 or 3). Here it is, for everyone's enjoyment: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3480/Super%20Challenge%20World%20TAS%20v2.smv I use pretty much all the major TAS techniques, like the hopping glitch, 6/5, etc. in this movie, but I never intended this for serious publication, so I never tried to absolutely exhaust all the possibilities. The basic route I was aiming for was racing to the first cape as fast as possible (in Lava Lake 2), then going back to collect all the other exits (some of the levels are ridiculously broken using the cape). One of my favorite parts of this game is all the different ways one can skip large parts of levels. This game is very suited for discovering unique TAS routes and tricks.
