Seconded. I'm kinda curious- anyone know who composed it?

What about hacking a TAS into one of the cpu's demonstrations? or making a real story instead of this garbled thing?

It originally had a real story... It was changed into this artsy-fartsy too-deep-to-really-understand version in the last few minutes.

C) I call dibs on TASing this game. I wonder if it would be an accepted hack.
Sorry for this, but I just had to try TASing this. :P You could try to beat my time if you want. :P It turned out really great. There's a lot of action in this movie, as well as some unexpected moments. This is most likely the best game to TAS. (a big dose of irony here) Here it is. And for those who want this movie to end at the original start-menu, I give a slightly longer movie here. Umm, enjoy the movies. At least they're short. :) This would probably make a better "no-input" TAS.

WHY?
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.

I thought they were talking about the Mario Movie, not the MJ one.

Something tells me that, no matter how hard you'd try, it'd be nearly impossible to make a coherent plot and still have the movie composed of scenes like this.

Watching that movie was kind of boring, but I enjoyed the music and the 'poetry'.

Sure you could. Mario's game/"world" is finally collapsing and falling apart after 20 long years of sitting in a box. After watching it decay around him, leaving him with nothing left he calls normal, he jumps off his remaining sanctuary -- a lone block. After surveying what's left of the world, and coming to realize that all that's left is chaos and noise, he starts wandering, in search of hope. He meets the purple goomba on a 1-UP platform, who explains to him both why things are happening, and what's happening now -- an evil entity has been created out of a small amount of chaos and has been causing more and more, and offers to take Mario to him. Along the way, the chaos and disruption grows more feirce and extreme. Mario finally enters the lair of the entity... The enemy is himself, or what the chaos has made of him. He finally understands and begins to go insane from the realization, turning the game's last coherant character into a jumble of chaos and noise. In his last moments before the game completely collapses, the cartridge is finally restored to normal by someone blowing into it, and everything returns to normal. Considering Mario's last moments before this, his memory (as well as everyone else's) is destroyed, and they start life anew. (Based lightly off the original plot before artsy-fart style came in)
