I don't understand any of that, but in english it means you have a set number of movements before a random encounter, right? ;3 I figure levels will be plentiful, even if you only fight Bosses. :3

I started a TAS at one point, then I had to go somewhere in the middle of it and completely forgot about it until I came back to TASVideos and saw this. I looked at my wonderful 2 minute speedrun (up until first leaving Ninten's house) and saw so many places where I could improve, namely the two battles I fight (manipulation of SMASH attacks or of damage depending on enemy HP). So I started a new one. I abandoned it due to me choosing "Slow" instead of "Fast" text, due to my inability to read Japanese, and due to me assuming the traditional "fast is on the right" thing. It went well up until my path to the Canary Village. I abandoned it due to me not equipping the Plastic Bat, fighting a random battle instead of manipulating it, and ultimately heading the wrong way. I chose not to manipulate a SMASH against the Doll. It would've helped, yes, but the manipulation system's a bit weird in my opinion, as moving the cursor does less than I expected (unless I'm just not moving it enough). In my future runs, I'll improve these things: 1. Manipulating the first two battles so I go first when dealing the killing blow. 2. Manipulating a SMASH against the Doll. 3. My precision (this is a test run so I didn't correct the small mistakes). 4. My path (I need to MAKE one...). If there's anything else I can improve, please tell me.

If the English version is allowed, then I'll do so. It'd be a lot easier for me (and a lot faster). Anyone in charge have a verdict on the English version?

i don't think the english version would be allowed because it requires a patch. and in any case, i would prefer the japanese version.

Are you sure? I heard that it was just some older emulators that needed the patch. I'm going to try playing through the whole game in FCEU these next few weeks to make sure, though.

It only needs a patch to make the game playable:
Hacked and homebrew games are not allowed Generally, we only accept hacks which only make the game playable on an emulator.
The game is already translated and, as far as I know, only has a 'ZERO' added onto the title screen.

From what I have heard, this game was translated, but was just never shipped out for the NES. I don't see why that should keep the English version of the rom from being used.

The thing is, the english cartridge exists, but it was unplayable because of one little bug. So someone unrelated to Nintendo or had to modify one bit of the code or something like that to make the game playable on an american console. At least that's what I read.

Okay, I heard it was just unplayable on certain emulators, but that's why I'm going to help my sister finish her game on the original prototype ROM to find out what happens.

Big story with the English prototype and stuff. I dunno, should I just make two runs? One for each ROM? On a side note, I'm halting progress until I figure out what's going on. And from what I can tell, there doesn't seem to be any patch needed (at least for me, and I've gotten pretty far into the game). This just gives me time for route planning. I'll need a lot, so as to figure out the least amount of enemies I need to fight throughout the game to get me to level 25 at the right time. Edit: How many people are actually interested in the run? I'm definitely going to go through with this, but your opinions will decide whether I submit it or not.

Wait, what's all the stuff you have to level up for? Did you make a list? How did you figure out that 25 was the optimal level?

Unless you're being sarcastic (I know you...), you need to be level 25 to face the dragon. Which gets you the 6th melody. Which you need to get the powerup and win the game. I'm hoping that running blindly through fighting only the strongest enemies through manipulation will work. Then again, it won't...

Which character has to be level 25? How did you find out that it was that exact level number and not some other factor?

If I'm not mistaken, you can run in the Overworld only in the English version which would definitely make it faster to use it instead of the Japanese version.

This TAS will probably be as long as the current EarthBound TAS. Some enemies will give a lot of experience. I don't know how far through I got in the game when I played. Only had like...the first Melody...

VICTOLY IS MINE! ...Er. Yeah. Ninten levels to 25. It says so in different places. If there's another trigger, I'll find it, of course. Any word on the English/Japanese debate? I'll do English, most likely, even if it has to go in the 'Hacks' section.

Wish we could get Bisqwit's opinion on the Japanese/English matter here. After all, what he says goes, right? ;3 I personally think the English version will be fine though. ^^

Generally speaking, I suppose unreleased games are okay, since they are still definite versions. The reasons to not allow hacks are: 1. If they see things there that don't exist in the Japanese version (such as running in the overworld), they may be disappointed, that the TAS is worthless: it's not the same game. From what I understand, the original Neo Demiforce hack is the fixed, unreleased English version. I know of a few hacks that double EXP and put the original Japanese uncensored sprites back in (cigarettes and blood and stuff). Thanks, Bisq. Edit: I have school in seven hours so I'm just gonna stay up all night and work on this. Hopefully people will read my notes. I'll explain the situation when/if I submit it ^_^

Another thing to consider is that the unreleased English version was used as the basis for the remake on Game Boy Advance. The original version is said to have looked a bit rushed at the end, as you don't get the eighth melody from anywhere specific, and there isn't really an ending cinema at all. But it also doesn't have the silly censorship of later versions, and the Game Boy Advance version isn't quite as authentic with its sound and not confining you to squares. So, I really don't know what to choose.
