lo and behold, many mountains are falling today some of the folks on #nesvideos will know what i tourneytard i am for ssbm so of course i had to post this, so commence "oh, that's nice" comments from everyone else in 3... 2... 1...

I really hope they improve the balance in the next one... there were a couple of great characters and the rest were junk.

everyone in mid tier at least can compete and some of the low-tier chars fare well against higher-tier ones (e.g. young link rapes peach, pikachu rapes puff, luigi probably rapes c. falcon), doesn't seem quite like another mvc2 to me

Every fighting game has best characters and worst characters. But SSBM has a very large set of viable tournament caliber characters. It would be nice if it was "more balanced" but this game is actually pretty darn well balanced considering the number of characters, range of levels, and totally different abilities of each character.

They are ok. The Fox does not seem to be good. And the Marth is above average using some advanced tatics. I've seen better fights / players.

Personally, I think SSBM is very unbalanced. While some really bad characters easily counter good characters, that can't do much more than that.

I challenge you to show me a fighting game that is balanced. SSBM has probably 10-13 very strong characters, and suprisingly few terrible characters.

There was a point in time when I knew every move, for every character, in Tekken Tag Tournament and Soul Calibur. I could defeat pretty much any comers with Mokujin and Edge Master. With a few exceptions in Tekken (namely Kuma and Eddy) they were fairly well-balanced games. However, I'm never spending that kind of time on a game again. 30-40 hours a week is an investment I simply can't justify any more.
