Hi! I loved that game, too! Somebody making already a Speedrun? Please start one! ;-) I am not interesting in Scenario's, but a MegaMetropole-Speedrun should be cool, i think. Greetz; Spawn!

I maybe wrong, but I tried that trick about the nuclear meltdown, holding L&R but you run out of time anyways, and one of the 2 plants blow up. And as for the UFo, wasent that only in sim city 2000??

There's UFO in Sim City. You must do the first 6 scenarios then Las Vegas should be unlocked with UFOs attack.

I don't think anyone is on this one. Too bad, because it could be very interesting.

Well, I meant if there was a competition, I would consider entering. But not by myself. Not to good at the game :/

Seems like everyone is afraid of trying such a big thing, maybe we should start with something like build up a 50,000 city as fast as possible in the introduction map? There we could see what could be good strategies to begin to build up a 500,000 metropole....

I think what keeps me from doing it is knowing nothing about the game(also having technically no frame by frame to move the cursor around as fast as possible). Maybe contributing strategies or giving tips above general knowledge would help.

I think that's the problem. Nobody here has much knowledge about this game and their physics, I've also played this game a lot but can't say what would be a good start for example.

I know how to reach your city into a Megalopolis but I don't want to do this game. And I remember some people in Nintendo Power magazine that were clearly superior than me. Anyway the strategy is simple(surely not the best but it works). Residential in the middle of the map. Industrial at the border of the map. Commercial between residential and Industrial. Police departments should be well placed so there's no place that got crimes. Airport at the corner of a map. Anyway, I think this FAQ explain enough things. http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/simcity_b.txt

Yeah,I doubt this run will ever be made. Using rerecording will not do much, except make precise cursor movements. We would need someone who has played the game a lot to do this run. Looking at an faq will still not make it that great. Someone fell like playing this game for a month? :p

Hmm, so you're saying a speedrun for this game would be more appropriate videotaped, because there wouldn't be that much difference anyway? Unfortunate, but I understand.

Maybe all we need is a bad run accepted so someone can challenge it and make improvements. Seems to have worked in the past, at least.

That will just get rejected by Bisqwit or Phil, unles it shows SOME skill/effort. I know GSGold was toying with the game earlier. Maybe they could be coerced into making a movie (and discourged from bringing up pie fantasies).

you would have to know very well how every aspect of the game works to make a "perfect" city. there are just too many aspects to be taken care of at the same time, it's way too complex... and even so... i don't think it would look impressive

If the only impressive aspect of the movie is that you move the cursor eyeblindingly fast, but your game technique is laughed at by super experienced players of the game, your movie should not be published.

Well.. You could turn the game speed up to max and then use slower frames. Then it woulden't be that bad. :D If I knew how to get a Megapolis I would have tried to do this game. Might give it a try on the scenarios. Got no work right now so I got some spare time perhaps. My knowledge is to bad about the game though. I know about the Time stop cheat and about the money cheat. But it woulden't be any fun to use em' anyways. I'm don't promise anything though. Still got some other projects to be done. But as I said.. I do got some spare time as well. :) Someone would need to help me on strats though.

I think once we get a strategy down for Megapolis, the only real challenging part is getting the game to be entertaining. I have no clue how we could do that. Maybe have some fancy pattern or whatever. I think Scenarios or Training Map are short enough to not lose interest, but getting a Megapolis takes a lot of years unless you REALLY know what you're doing. At the absolute minimum a year, since we'll have to wait to do the $999,999 glitch. I like this game, but I can't think of anything we could do to make a run less of a bore to watch. Maybe pan the camera or fiddle with gifts once in a while to let the viewer see the entire city?

regardless of how entertaining the run tries to be, this will be a time attack that only fans of the series could enjoy. With that in mind, I wouldn't mind it being a little fancy, but a straight forward strat getting a megaloplis quickly would be enough please me. After all, you're planning the design of a city, and not doing insane maneuvers over hoards of enemies.

Eh, good point. Right now I'm fiddling in tutorial island checking various strategies, so I'll see what I turn up with that.

Can't you turn up the speed in this game somehow? You can in all the other SimCity games. A year doesn't have to take a long time.

Yeah, you can turn the game speed up. It's in the options. Press X to get unhide the tool-bar if you don't have it visible. See the icon that looks like a running man? Press that icon and you will get to choose a couple of diffrent speeds.

Oh.. In the guide posted earlier in this thread.. Actually I repost the link here: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/simcity_b.txt The guy is talking about a donut shape but minimalized. He builds residentials and then buldoze some of it. Then he places new residentials and do the work all over again. My question here is.. Does this method equal a regular strategy? I mean.. Can you fit the same ammount of people in the buldozed houses as you can in a regular house? Will these houses be able to change into tops as well?

So if you do an attempt, you'll have the speed cranked up to max the whole run then I hope. :) (BTW, I haven't played this version of Sim City, but I've played plenty of versions on PC.)
