Hey guys, just wanted to get some discussion started for this. A couple things I've noticed... - After using Olaf's fart, he automatically puts his shield over his head. Obviously something you want to correct ASAP. - Scorch seems to fly upward faster if you mash B. This means you'll stop flying more quickly, though. - A couple times, when I used Erik's double jump to break walls above me, he just kept moving upward like normal instead of falling down. If you can figure out how to get this consistently it could be very useful. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I played through Lost Vikings 1 recently and it was really awesome. I started playing 2 but it just didn't seem as good or as challenging. I kept playing thinking the levels would get harder but they never did so I stopped eventually. I think these games would make cool time attacks. One interesting thing about them is that you have the option for 2 player mode. In two player mode each player controls different vikings and you can still toggle between the 3. But there will always be one inactive viking. Also you can't control a viking if its not on the same screen as the main one. I think that this could lead to a really awesome, complex and challenging video. I have not seen any time attacks where the player needed to control two people.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Lost Vikings 2 plays a lot more like an action game and a lot less like a puzzle game when you compare it to its predecessor. That being said, the game would be hard to make an accurate timeattack movie for considering that each character moves freely and relies on frame work to get each move correct. If you're going to make a movie for this, make sure that you're comfortable with every type of movement before you try it out.

If anyone is considering doing a LV2 run, they should probably get the "super powers" from the first level, if only for the fact that it allows Baleog to jump across pits and Scorch to have infinite flight. You can get them on the first level by going to the highest point on the stage, having Erik jump off Olaf's shield and double-jump, aiming for the lowest point--if it's far enough, Erik will take falling damage. Repeat until dead, and the game will say "I can't believe you died on the first level!" and give you the powers, which are; Baleog: (Up+B) makes him leap forward, damaging whatever he comes in contact with--plus, no more only relying on the arm to cross pits. (Down+B) is a series of slashes forwards and backwards which looks impressive, but only wastes time. Erik: (Down+Y) fires off a large spark which does pretty good damage. Olaf: As far as I can tell, pressing three of the main buttons (A, B, X, Y) causes him to turn into a skull and kill enemies, but I'm not sure which. Fang: (Tapping Y) makes him undergo self-electrolysis (no results, though), which happens to damage enemies who come in contact with him. Scorch: (Mashing B) no longer makes Scorch have to rest sooner--only your finger. (So, it makes it even more like an action game with these--it's good if it helps with time, though, right?)

It's any three of those four. Make sure you don't press all 4 at the same time, though; that's the skip level code.

So how do you feel about doing it in two player mode? It would probably be twice as fast and more interesting, but also more challenging to make.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

I'd personally prefer seeing a Lost Vikings 1 timeattack (first) since I haven't played 2, but I guess it's all good. 2-player would be even more awesome and much much faster.

Is there a Genesis version of the game?

Nope. There's a Sega SATURN version, with pretty good voices and somewhat better graphics....

I started trying this game a few days ago, partially to test myself and partially out of a desire for revenge against some of the more annoying puzzles. This is mostly a test run to get a feel for the game, so there are several places that could use much better optimization. This will not be the version I submit. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4012/Lost%20Vikings%20II%2C%20The%20%28U%29.smv A few general notes: * On a few occasions, I trade all of the necessary items to Erik. This is because he will reach the end faster, and the level won't finish until the items finish spiraling. * I don't know the fastest way to swim, or the best way for Scorch to ascend. Memory watch could help with that, but the relevant addresses elude me. * I only recently learned how to switch the focus to the second player, and there are many places that that could save time.

Looks excellent and your movements are speed-efficient, but did you consider the extra abilities you get by having Erik die in the first level? Here's the original thread which has some other good info.

Good start, everything looks nice so far, but it might be worth looking into if and how the multi-tap emulates, for a 3 player version. That aside, this is one run I would love to see finished.

I don't think 3 players is possible.

I'm aware of the effects of killing Erik in the first level, but I felt that would be considered a cheat code, so I didn't do it. There is no 3-player mode in this game. Otherwise I would have used it, even though 2 players is hard enough on my sanity at times.

What abilities are gained by having him die? The only one I noticed was that belog can now jump.

Also, I don't consider it a cheat code, just a cool easter egg. It would most likely come in handy sooner or later...

No question that it would help, its more a question of if we want to see the puzzles mostly beaten as designed? or cheesed useing special abilites. That decision is best left up to the author.

Isn't one of the ideas behind tasvideos to do things the developers didn't expect? I'd probably watch this movie either way though, especially if it abuses having mulitple players. EDIT: I think I asked the wrong question. Of course the programmers expected this. It seems to change the gameplay a lot, though. I'd like to see it done both ways if possible.

Special stuff now, without it later. More abilities=more variety. End of argument. Restart run.

I would be against using the 'special stuff'. It kills a big part of the entertainment, at least from the perspective of a person who has actually played the game. What's the point of playing/TASing this game if Baleog can jump? It makes many puzzles redundant and IMO should be considered as a cheat.

Even if a run with those special abilities is accepted here, I would hope that it wouldn't obsolete one that doesn't use them. I'd certainly watch both runs, but I'd prefer one without the abilities first. Anyway, I beat a couple more levels. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4047/Lost%20Vikings%20II%2C%20The%20%28U%29.smv

I guess Krysimys has a point about Baelog, but that would be cool for Olaf to turn into a skull :) Anyway, looks good. Keep going!

hmm, maybe enable special abilities but refrain from using the cheap/boring ones? I don't know...personally I find half the entertainment in seeing the puzzles unraveled.
