After much testing and effort, Moai is finally done! The total time is now 25:26 with 5078 rerecords. That is a 10:55 improvement from v1, folks. =) The shurikens and walljump glitch both saved mucho time in this level, and I also figured out a method to pick up the key as soon as possible. I violated my pure-speed goal a tiny bit, to show off a cute little bug; when I save Moai as Mikey, then immediately switch to Moai, he gets stuck in the floor for about 2-3 frames. Also, after that, I continue using Moai as long as possible just so that the viewer can get to hear a little of his theme song. Anyway, the shooter level is next. Quietust, Blitzwing, or anyone else who's seen my first version, feel free to offer any suggestions on how this stage should be played. Thanks, Josh.

Well, never mind. I decided on what I thought would be a cool way to do the level, and it turned out quite well IMO. It was even done a bit faster this time, as well. The total time is 30:06 now, one more level to go... -Josh

Movie is done...well, almost. It wasn't until after I finished and watched it again when I noticed that I made a HUGE mistake against the last boss. I'll finish this thing tomorrow... Oh, btw, this video will have more total rerecords than v1 even though it's so much shorter. Always a good sign. =) -Josh

Alright, this baby is finally done and you can get it at my Filespace page. The total time is 34:24, with 7946 rerecords. I used the original Japanese ROM this time. As to why the time is as high as it is, I ended the first movie a bit too early. It should finish after scrolling through the last bit of dialogue, which adds 19 seconds to the time. So overall, accounting for this, I improved 10:57 from version 1. Thought the last 2 levels were improved more, but oh well... The man who doesn't want to touch this game again for a LONG time, Josh.

Exellent movie, I enjoyed all half-hour of it. My only gripe is that the shooter-stage is messed up. I don't know if it's just my rom, or the emulator's problem. Anyways, it's a pity that Bisqwit doesn't accept FCE Ultra movies right now.

Thanks for the feedback! =) And yes, it's a problem with every emulator I know of. You might remember that I fly directly through asteroids...that was to show that they don't actually exist and it's the emulator screwing up. -Josh

I'm pretty sure its just a bad dump of the game. I'll see what I can do to get mine dumped one of these days.

had a lot of fun watching this movie...I think an NES Strider run would be right up your alley...love the way you utilized all of the glitches in Wai Wai...There are several in Strider as well, like being able to bounce off of spikes to ledges several feet above...and, walking right through spikes without being hurt at all...Despite having to do some levels over again...I really think it would be a fun to watch movie...I started doing one, myself, but stopped at level 2,,,simply because I just do not have enough time or patience to do these videos...But, I definitely have time to watch and truly appreciate them...:) Wai Wai World video will remain an important part of my videogame time attack collection...well done, indeed...:)

Are you going to submit this movie? I think you should.

Dan: I would have already, except I can't figure out how to submit movies. It keeps saying I have to login, even after I do so. My name and password are correct, it doesn't display any error messages...what's up? Anyway, once that's settled, I'll definitely be submitting it. As for my other movies thus far: - Castle of Dragon, Sword Master, and Vice will all eventually be submitted. I'll do one more version for each, though, as all have room for many minor improvements (and one major one, in the case of Vice). - Dash Galaxy is probably too boring a game to ever be accepted here. My video is just about perfect, barring the existence of any glitches I don't know about, and it's a real snoozer for someone who doesn't know the game (which would be the vast majority, I presume). -Josh

Wow, I just watched this run and it's the first time I had looked into the game. I wish I could just bust out Simon Belmont in every game.

After many, many attempts at lag reduction, here is the first level of wai wai world, 170 frames ahead of fuzi2. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/28612985722603033 Pretty much the only improvement is in lag reduction, as the level is pretty linear and the route of the game overall seems pretty well optimized. To get that lag reduction though was no easy feat. There is a lot of manipulation and careful movement needed, I do hope the other levels are easier then this one. Oh, i also found a bug where if 1 character dies right when there is a screen transition, the game will crash. I didn't look too deeply into it , but it looks like a stack corruption glitch. I couldn't get anything besides a crash to happen, it eventually ends up at a 02 opcode.

So in looking at the 1 player run I took a look at RTA runs, and they use a trick where if you press up + select + A + B at the same time you can instantly kill your character. In the manual it says that this is used if you get stuck and can't progress (not sure how this might come up, maybe like you can only get to an area with a certain character but that character dies after getting there so you can't get back.) This saves a lot of time in backtracking but you need to spend ammo to revive your character. This opens up a lot of routing possibilities for the TAS.

I think this is a good theoretical route for 2-player run using Up+Select+A+B death abuse plus dice game gambling: Fuuma - get cape, recuse Fuuma, die Goemon - get damage upgrade, rescue Goemon, die Simon - get key, die Kong - rescue Kong, get key, die Mikey - gamble, get key, rescue Mikey, normal exit Simon x2 - get defense boost, rescue Simon, die --bring everyone back-- Moai - as normal --rest of the game-- This avoids backtracking in Goemon's stage while only having to bring back characters once. Dying takes half your missiles, and the max you can get is 1000. Bringing back a character costs 100 missiles. So you can only bring back 5 characters, and you need them all alive to enter the last level.
