Post subject: IRC Client Recommendation -- DECIDED. Thanks!

There are so many IRC clients out there that I have a difficult time making heads or tails out of them, and I don't have time to download and experiment with every single one. Basically, I just want to join the TASVideos IRC channel once in a while (I was formally invited by moozooh and upthorn : ). A lot of the clients on the internet look like they would be very difficult to use. I would greatly appreciate recommendations for an easy-to-use, free, Windows-based IRC client suitable for someone who's never used IRC before.

I'm a fan of X-Chat. It's not that hard to use. mIRC has a history of bugs, plus it's technically shareware.

if you just want basic chatting without bothering about privileges, operator rights and bans, x-chat is just fine. It's not made for the die-hard irc addicts, but it's perfect for #nesvideos :)

xchat for graphical clients, irssi for text-mode

I use mIRC, but then again I'm on Windows, I don't feel like paying for XChat when mIRC is (technically) free, and I'm not an open source whore. Of course, if you're cool, just use ircatwork.

xchat has many free forks for windows (it's open-source yet he still charges for the official build, makes you wonder how well that's actually working out when you realize everyone forked it)

I use xchat, and it's free.

XChat or IRSSI will do the work. Thats what I use. For windows/wine users I would recommend Microsoft Commic Chat though. It's the most ultimate IRC client out there known to mankind. :)

easiest would be a java client, but I could not find one directly on freenode's website. no install, no configuration. there are free ones out there. once you'll get used to IRC, knowing how to change network/channel etc., you might want to try a regular IRC client, and mirc or xchat won't look complicated anymore.

If you are going to use ircII you may as well go all out and use BitchX.

Looks like the award goes to x-chat, but Microsoft Chat looks... interesting... so I'll take a look at that as well. Thanks a lot guys! See you in the channel soon!
