They have it for the SNES. Our SNES emulators are much more reliable than DOSbox currently is.

I just did a brief skim so maybe I glanced past it, but... No one's mentioned Elder Scrolls 1 and 2 yet? Arena's even available for all to enjoy (hah. ""enjoy."") from Bethesda's website. c.c; Can't imagine EITHER would be long if you got someone who knew wtf they were doing.

Did scorched earth have a one player game? You could do some fun playaround stuff with tools though it's not really tasable
What would Mr Belvedere do? Probably eat some butter.

Um... Halo isn't a DOS game...
Maybe rerecording can be added to VirtualBox? It's OpenSource. :)

that's a virtualizer, not an emulator. It's not technically possible.

I can think of quite a number of rpgs & strategy games that I really enjoyed playing, back in the dark ages of the early-mid 90s, but I'm not sure that translates well into good runs in the same way FPS's and the like do. I think I'd still like seeing someone run Pools of Raidiance, Daggerfall, Darklands, UFO, Dungeon Keeper, Jagged Alliance or somesuch - but that's because I've played those games for days on end and know them fairly well. In reality an rpg or strategy game run will likely be mostly waiting, menus and running around in apparent confusion; most people would probably prefer something more actiony and easier to understand. See: current SC2 run. Naturally, runners should first run what they feel like, but all other things being equal it's probably best to go for the simpler, more instantly recognisable gametypes first. With that in mind, PC games that I believe haven't been mentioned and I think would actually make entertaining TASes: MechWarrior (2, Mercenaries) NetHack (and other roguelikes, such as for example rogue) Z I'd also like to second the recomendations on: Alone in the Dark Cannon Fodder Crusader: No Regret/Remorse Descent 1/2 Mega-lo-Mania Little Big Adventure 1/2 'course, half of these would need mouse support which I understand isn't quite there right now.

What about Sid Meier's Civilization? Was that DOS. My formative years were right around where DOS was starting to fade out, so I'm not sure about some. They run together a bit.

Yes, but there are also several TASable console versions that have been possible for a while, but noone has done. I suspect that luck manipulation in that game could easily drive the author quite mad quite quickly.

It would be fun to see how quickly it could be beaten, though.

So, could we possibly have a separate DOSBox forum? There are far too many possibilities for this one thread. Thanks, Josh.
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

Only read the first page, so I may have missed some. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 probably wouldn't happen - that's not a DOS game. Trust me, I own a copy of the game and did two non-assisted speedruns of the game that are both on SDA. Here's ones I can think of: -Bio Menace -Any of the Commander Keen games -Jazz Jackrabbit 1 (previously requested before) -One Must Fall: 2097 (I agree that this could make a decent one) -Any of the BUILD series (Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior) -The first two Duke Nukem games -Battle Bugs -H.U.R.L. (one of the worst FPSes I've ever seen - not due to its eco-friendly theme, but due to its awful gameplay) -Threat (top-down shooter) -Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold -Corridor 7 -Excelsior (this one may not count any more - but it used to be available for DOS, I know that) I'm trying to think of more, but it'll take a while.

That was such a great game! Not the hardest with the infinite-gold trick but hard enough when you have no sense of direction or location whatsoever like me. Cool stories, quests, items, enemies, spells, everything! Ack, need to get that one again. Seem to have lost my old floppy's though... The Worms games had singleplayers right? I don't remember them all that well but IIRC maps and player starting locations weren't random... If that's true it could be cool! Points for style, freehand snipe some one from across the map hehe or something hehe.

I was bored, so I took a look at this one for the heck of it. It *might* have made an entertaining run if you could: get the case, immediately get the warrent, and then fly right the crook's hideout and arrest him. Sadly, this is not the case. While the crook is selected when you're given the case, the final destination is not. The next stop appears to be selected only once you arrive in a city. That means the TAS would be composed almost entirely of watching the flying screen over and over again (and of course waiting while you slept). I was getting bored just testing it, so I doubt anyone would really want to watch it.

Yesterday I checked out my DOS games folder and chose those that would produce interesting TASes.. For the moment, I believe platformers would be the most popular so, - Bio Menace - a rather lengthy platformer (3 episodes ~15-20 mins each), lots of shooting, bosses and death abuse - Commander Keen (all 7) - the first games being more about precise jumping, 6th one has ton of glitches so that might be the most interesting piece - Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure - that creature can stick to walls!! Pretty unusual platformer but a classic nevertheless - Crystal Caves - some potential in this classic too - Dangerous Dave 2 - a lot of hard and deadly monster-dodging and planned use of the limited and slowly reloadable ammunition would make this one interesting - Duke Nukem 1 - don't think you need comments on this one - ElectroBody - one of the slowest platformers I know but it does become very hard towards the end - Hocus Pocus - haven't played much but seemed runnable - Jazz Jackrabbit - of course, probably the best candidate for entertainment value. A bunch of pretty short episodes. - Monster Bash - pretty good - Nicky Boom - cute platformer with long and puzzling levels and hard bosses, pretty underrated - Prehistorik - that classic caveman game everyone loved, this would require well planning cause it requires a certain amount of food to pass a level, very many choices everywhere, thus interesting - Prehistorik 2 - a lot shorter than the first game because of no food requirement, this would consist of precise jumps, a few glitches and short boss fights. Yeah. - Secret Agent - quite long and puzzling levels, not bad - Titus the Fox - considered as one of the hardest platformers ever, this would be mostly enemy-dodging, intentional damage boosting and fast boss fights, thus pretty fun - Ugh! - very original taxi game. 70 or so levels with tons of hard maneuvres - good candidate. and of course, when the FPSes become fully supported there's no stopping for Blood, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, Descent, Hexen, Duke Nukem, etc. etc. etc. and etc. also, there's a number of good RPGs like Arena, Daggerfall, Wastelands, Nethack (!) I wouldn't mind some unusual ones such as Death Rally, The Incredible Machine, Action Supercross, Grand Prix Circuit, Crime Fighter either. I'd do some of the platformers myself (CK's, Titus, Prehistorik, Jazz) but the rerecording Dosbox has some problems running here, and pressing ALT (used in most platformers) freezes the game until pressed again :/

I came here to post that :) The original was for DOS, and a TAS of it would be insane - the speed you could achieve on a superbike was rediculous, as were the stunts you could pull. Infact, if dosbox rerecording is ever good enough to handle it, and I ever finish my Mario Kart TAS, I'd like to do GTA.

Gouranga! :) I worry about a GTA tas... I mean, so much of the fun of that game came from screwing around, rather than doing the missions normally. Oh well. It'll be awesome either way.

Xerophyte mentioned the MechWarrior games. Good idea! There would probably be quite a bit of competition there, with the different mech configurations and everything.

I nominate Thexder. Just seeing that insanely hard game get beaten would be interesting. I know there's also a Famicom version of that game, but I'm pretty sure the PC version was superior Also, Thexder 2.
http://girlyyy.com/ The El Viento TAS is the only decent thing I submitted here.

Since we obviously don't have enough of them, how about Prince of Persia? I wonder if it shares any glitches with the console versions.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.
