I know that SNESx9 1.43 has rerecording, but I don't think it has frame advance. Are there any emulators for Mac with rerecording and frame advance?

I'm looking at snes9x 1.5 for mac, and it doesn't seem to have a frame advance option. It's looking more that I may have to run an emulator to run an emulator. I've used VirtualPC years ago, and it did a halfway decent job at that time, so I guess I'll look into that first.

Well, I do my TASs in Normal Speed, I'm a bit new to TASs as well.

You should look into the more advanced features of the emulators when doing your TAS' (at normal speed, I guess it's just an S :P). This'll give you more precise control over the game and allow you to make a much cleaner run. The first couple attempts I made were the same way until some members kindly pointed out how frame-advance worked :)

Ok, I'll look forward to that, but doing Speed Runs of PC Games, like some that I develop...

Well speedrun and tool assisted speedrun are different. One require playing skills, the other require patience and some passion for details.

The sheer amount of time required to make one of these runs is really discouraging me. I spent over half an hour working on one level of a game and ended up with approximately one minute of gameplay that wasn't anywhere close to optimized.

At least you have something to show for that half hour... imagine how it feels for people who do regular speedruns, to spend 10's of hours on runs and have nothing to show for it at all.

I just spent 4 hours optimizing turning through 3 corners in Densetsu No Stafy... Some games are just harder than others. What game are you TASing?

I was doing a testrun of Roadblasters. I'm starting to work on Cobra Command, which is turning out to be a combination of frame-perfect optimization and periods where entertainment is the only goal.
