I use the keyboard at all times, except for mario64 because i had to use something analog. So i used the psx controller for the gamepad, but i kept my hotkeys on the keyboard.

I can't imagine to do TASes without a gamepad. As JXQ already said, the limit of 3 button presses at the same time is just too small. And this "hold button" keys are too complicated and cause unnecessary work.

It's actually easy. Just use your pinky for frame advance, and with the right thump you can manage up to 3 presses in the same time. If it gets too difficult, I sometimes include my right index finger into the 4 buttons handling. It isn't very comfortable but it works well if absolutely necessary. Regarding Super Metroid, I get along with only the right thump pretty well in 99% of all cases anyway.

Instead of pointlessly starting my own topic I thought I might as well celebrate [URL=http://imageshack.us][/URL] Although I've found great difficulty in getting the C-stick to work or to respond correctly. Can anyone help, since I've been trying it on various emulators and PC games. I've been trying to get the C stick to behave like a mouse look but as I said earlier the input doesn't register in the configuration or doesn't move at the right speed and often becomes becomes locked once its pressed, I've also had difficulty with both the analougue because often once I put them back to neutruel the player or character on screen keeps on slowly moving. Help would be much appreaciated.

i'm not quite sure why, but i also had issues using the c-stick for basically anything with my sj13, so for the time being, since i have an awesome (official) usb saturn pad, I just tossed it in my cupboard along with my ps2 > usb adapter + ps2 dualshock. Realistically though, the perfect controller for emulation purposes would actually be the n64 controller, it has enough buttons for anything. All it needs is a slight redesign for more comfort (something more like the gc controller in terms of hand grips), and a gc/wii analog stick hax'd into the control instead of the piece of shit it was originally made with. I honestly wonder why nintendo actually didn't revise that and make a stronger stick before the 64 went 'out'. I'm also one of the control using TASers on the site, I couldn't possible see doing it with a keyboard being a viable way for some games.

I'm reviving this thread to inform you that my trusted Logitech Rumblepad, which I've used on every TAS I've made (around 25 or so), has broken. The problem is that the computer detects the gamepad when it's plugged in, but after about 5-10 seconds, expecially if you move the gamepad around, it looses contact with it, and thinks it has been removed. I've had this gamepad for about 3 years, of which I've spent around 2 years TASing with it. But, just as the Phoenix rises from the ashes, so does a new TASing gamepad rise! I'm gonna go to town today and buy myself a new gamepad, probably an identical. Goodbye, trusted gamepad, you'll be remembered. omfg I had one of those things without the rumble and absolutely HATED it. It was nigh impossible to press in one direction on the D-pad without getting a diagonal. I snapped the damn thing in half trying to take it apart and didn't even feel bad. I replaced it with an Xbox 360 controller, which doesn't even need any kind of adapter because it's USB!

Yeah, I have that problem in SNES9X, but it's no problem with FCEU - There are no diagonal inputs for FCEU, so I don't have to worry about that with this gamepad when TASing NES games.

My own was starting to kick the bucket analog-wise. I took it apart and somehow managed to fix it though. o_o Luckily I have two extras in case it does die.
