After seeing links to people's desktops on IRC, I have begun to wonder what the desktops of other people here are like. There was another topic about background wallpapers, but for this one maybe show your icons, taskbars, etc. and possibly throw in an extra screenie with any applications you love in action. I guess I should post my desktop first.. There is also a higher quality (not much) png of the same name in the same directory.

Am I the only person who just puts everything on the desktop and only moves it to other folders when there's not enough room left? I mean,w aht else is it for? http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t133/Boco_XLVII/misc/200707042145.jpg

#1 #2 The snail in the wallpaper on the VMWare session is accidentally hilarious. Because of all the disk thrashing Windows does (even when allocated 512 RAM) it slows my entire system down. EDIT: Accidental because I have all my wallpapers on random rotation.

Okay fine, you asked for it. Warning: It is extremely large (2944 x 1200) and absolutely not interesting to look at at all.

Dear jesus I would just murder myself immediately if my desktop looked like this. And it's not like mine is particularly neat either.

Good for CSS, bad for "oh god icon overload". My desktop! Kind of! Filters not included.

Even though I'm already outgeeked by Omni I'll still post. here's my main computer, including a vnc-session to my notebook for screenshot purposes. http://www.authmann.de/misc/Desktop4tasvideos.jpg (480 kB, 3200x1200) showing off pseudotransparent terminals (aterm), window borders (crystal) and panels (kde default). Also showing off a custom filtered and colored syslog (syslog-ng / ssh / tailf / grcat) which informs me of all system warnings, incoming emails, IRC-messages addressed to me and a couple more things. Also showing a glaring emptyness on my desktop, zero items, the way I like it. I access my stuff via the panels and strategically placed hotkeys. Not visible: yakuake with an irssi session inside screen. Or anything else, since I was just about to go to bed and already closed everything.

Warp that is a screenshot of your browser, not your desktop. Please try again.

Despite only being released for the Saturn, NiGHTS is not a particularly obscure game... Also, there is a subtle but important difference between "wallpaper" and "desktop screenshot".

Here's 500 points. BTW, I may have disabled desktop icons and minimized my taskbar because I didn't want to show things. Ever think of that?

It's quite valid a desktop screenshot. Like mine, his desktop is rather clean. It only contains the software he's using at the moment relating to the same task. Or rather, that is one of the many virtual desktops. Other sides may have other windows open. Here's mine, for the record. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/dtop/index.html It has even fever standard desktop controls on it -- zero, to be precise. No icons, no menu-/taskbar, no widgets. Just the applications. There are nine images on that page, because there are nine virtual desktops in my desktop system.

What I am getting at is that desktop screenshots are supposed to have most applications closed minimized, so that the desktop is visible, even if the desktop behind them is boring. But that is the distinguishing feature of what makes them desktop screenshots, as opposed to browser, IRC, or other application screenshots.

You should turn all those cones into some sort of obstacle course/ race track. Go on. It'd be great.

Then I wouldn't be able to find what I'm looking for, and chaos would ensue. I like the idea though.
