While taking a random trip to Romhacking.net, I stumbled across these two hacks of PSIV. (As if the original game isn't already challenging enough.) I haven't played these yet, and I probably won't for a while; I just posted this to inform the uninformed, and possibly generate some discussion. Hell Mode Mod Purgatory Mode Mod Have fun.

I wouldn't be too concerned about these until a TAS of the actual game is completed. Furthermore, the changes are mostly just statistical, and would only slow down the play because it's a hard mode hack. The randoms are as skippable as in the regular game but the bosses are harder, and that just means more level-grinding. I'm happy in that it's another step forward for Phantasy Star hacking (and appreciation) but I don't think it would ever be the least bit suitable for submission at tasvideos. Informing the uninformed remains a noble goal.

I wasn't interested in generating discussion about a TAS of this game, as I'm not too interested in that myself. These boards can be used for other things aside from TAS talk, you know. :P (It's uncommon, but it's possbile. ;>_>)
