This game takes lots of time in optimizing and even I have already spent lots of time with my first attempt, it can be made even better. The fights at least. Here's my first 6 minutes. If you know big time-savers share your knowledge :) edit: Oh, I've been here already a year :O

Updated the file in link. Now over 9 minutes... advancing slowly ;) Something about the game: Running. When you have to run a small distance it's best to run for 13-15 frames, stand for one frame and run again. If you run longer, the skidding takes a lot of time after you stop running. Activating switch at about 7:44 is normally done with bow you can find in chest in upper screen. I instead used Dytto's hurricane which is the other way to go over the small wall. Titans are tough to kill without stronger swords. You have to break their shield to get "Oasis Rage" combo work (tapping attack button). Oh, does somebody know if the weapons can be changed on the fly with mode button? I read something like that on GameFaqs, but there's no mode-key in Gens 9c.

correction, there's no mode key on a 3 button controller. if you use 6 button, x/y/z are quick access to menus, but I never tried mode, since it was almost never used. in regards to the run, I simply have this to say: DUDE. I'm quite impressed, keep it up :D

Now a little over 12 minutes. There a lots of places where I can later improve by hex editing, harbour fight for example, can be done maybe 100 frames faster.

I just realized that if you press jump button when you are dropping down from a ledge, you save about 20 frames. Landing point seems to be different since I can't hex edit it correctly. I'm quite noob at it :( edit: Since hex editing can't be done in jumping places, I started from beginning and gained 6 seconds before first boss :) Now I just have to manipulate the boss not to jump, which is tough.

While I haven't yet watched the new one, wouldn't restarting have been the perfect oppurtunity to switch the using 6 button instead of 3 (since 6 has those advantages over 3)?

Sorry Atma, I'll still stick with 3 buttons. I don't believe it would benefit more than 1-2 seconds. After 2nd boss new run is 22 seconds ahead of 1st run. My first run looks so crappy now ;) Only disappointment was first boss, which was done 42 frames faster in first run. I just didn't want to spend time finding a faster way.

New run is catching the old one. 11½ minutes played and almost 42 seconds improved. Little improvement in almost every area, but two-gargoyle-fight in boat was again slower than in first run. And there has been few places where two frames has vanished mysteriously somewhere :O

Run is now complete in 50:29 and I have to ask is it worth optimizing and submitting? Quality drops in Forest Shrine and there weree also mistakes before that. So about 60-70 seconds faster is possible. The link is in the first post.

Cool movie. I like the familiars and the fight scenes. It looks tough to optimize, so I wish you luck.

The game is worth submitting, I think, but if you know how to fix those mistakes, I think you should.

Serious attempt: Four minutes done. Gained 5 secs and 28 frames. In a way I'm a bad TAS:er, since I haven't figured out how randomness works in this game. It would save 1½ seconds if first boss wouldn't make that one jump.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but it is possible to switch between the dagger and a secondary weapon without going through the menu (MODE+X, if I remember - some combination of MODE and another button). Unfortunately, I'm unsure of the actual value of this since you have to go to the menu in the first place in order to select the item, but it seems that in places where you use bombs and your dagger (like in the test run) it might be faster to do it outside the menu.

Fireskull boss is really awful to optimize since Dytto's Water Tornado can't be really controlled. I had luck and managed to do 2 seconds faster than normally :O Played 6:52:04 and gained 13 secs and 27 frames, which is much more than I hoped. Sabikage: Yeah, I remember I tested it after Atma's post, but it won't save nearly as much as normal improvements here and there.

*waves a little flag* Beyond Oasis is easily in my top 5 favorite Genesis games ever, along with the two Shining Force titles, Ultimate Qix, and Phantasy Star IV. I never beat it, though. :/ Furthest I got was... I don't even know. I had the shadow guy, I think. It was a place to the north, sort of on top of a castle looking place. Might've been conveyor belts. X.x

Perhaps a description of the game, and why you'd like to see it TASed might be in order.

I played it on Sega Channel and I never made it past the conveyor belt fortress until years later, when I finally bought the game.

This game is really epic. It deserves a TAS, and according to what I've seen, it's going super. Unfortunately, the emulator kills the sound tracks! My ears are almost bleeding!

It's been a while since I last did my run. I have played other games and have to find motivation to continue this game. Espyo, I'm going to visit Portugal first time since '86 in Wednesday :)

I'm in the process of a TAS of Beyond Oasis which has already been done by maTO however he takes damage in his, and skips all of the secret weapons. Right now I have about 6 minutes done of the 100 floor dungeon to get the most powerful weapon in the game. If anyone has played this game before you probably know what I'm talking about. I'll be posting a WIP in a few hours, at work right now so I can't do it yet. Grats to maTO on his run, I was actually worried when I saw his as I have been planning this for a while now, but upon seeing it I realized a 100% run would be longer, but I think still worthy of a TAS. I don't want to discourage you but this is a test run, right? I'd like to see someone to polish my run and submit it too. I lost my improved beginning with broken HDD so I don't have motivation to through it again.

Beyond Oasis WIP 1 :) Since maTO's site remains frozen, the only tool-assisted reference I found available was this old WIP of a planned 100% branch. Here's a couple of improvements that I've made, so far: * Soft-resetting at the title screen, as soon as the Sega logo appears, allows you to skip it almost immediately. This saves well over 4 seconds. * In the village, you can execute a long jump on the frame just before the cutscene takes over (where the villagers flee), placing you further ahead than you would be normally. I'd say this saves at least 30 frames. * As for the troll fight itself, the closer positioning due to the trick above allows me to rush in quicker and execute a quick jump kick. From here, three consecutive Rolling Slashes quickly takes out the Troll (he doesn't even get time to respond). Other than that, this should be a really fun run to watch once it's all ready and made! edit 9/01: Just uncovered that maTO (under his alias suklaalevy1) has a channel on YouTube with his last WIP uploaded. In particular, his "run stuttering" (which cancels the skidding animation) and his strategy for the Troll fight (could it still work with the jump trick?) may be worth looking into.
