I've tried an attempt today on the free land scenario and reached a megalopolis within 3 years (Think of this in reallife*lol*)! I've to say that there is absolutly no water on this map(pro) but you also don't get any special gifts(contra) to demand and increase the population faster. I've used the money-trick, so I don't care about the first year and also paused the game during build-time... . Here are some stats-pics that may interest some of you: http://www.superplayers.de/danielviebrock/simcity/population.jpg http://www.superplayers.de/danielviebrock/simcity/history.jpg http://www.superplayers.de/danielviebrock/simcity/total.jpg For everyone who hasn't mentioned our IRC-discussion about speed-running this game, here is a very nice pic of a megalopolis on map #061: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Lair/3439/stuff/megacity.html ...And this 951,680 citizens guy in the gamefaq-forum seems to be a faker, he gives lots of nice infos and strategies and also provides pictures (which are in such a bad quality you can only guess...). But I checked his stats from his totals he posted, and they don't fit together. For example (check my screen and you'll see it can't be possible like this): Developed - 1,461 Undeveloped - 7 (why!?) Rails - 192.1km Park Area - 1,026 Last thing... I really don't know how you could make a run entertaining without slowing down or stop the game time. A good solution would be build up a megalopolis as fast as possible which will be reached in the current record time of exactly 3 years (I am just one roll over close to 2y11m !) and stop the movie so the viewer could control the camera or look into stats for himself whenever he wants! As long as he don't change anything on the map the megalopolis will be reached at the same time, everytime.[/url]

I am honestly impressed by this, as well as the continued effort of all involved. Even if this only appeals to fans of the game, I think to see such an overcoming, conquering effort would be worthwile to watch.

I've mentioned something very stupid now which makes a Sim City run even more pointless for the viewers.... Every button press/hold down the button will pause the game timer :/. Maybe not to bad for building up your city so you don't have to care about the citizens until you build it up without button press delay.... but after that, scrolling through your city to show it the viewer would cause pausing the game timer =(... is this the end!?

The point here is to beat the current WR, which is in game timeunit. So real time doesn't count.

I only want to correct that this 900k guy at gamefaqs is not a faker, because now I've seen a 1,2mio megalopolis savegame by myself....it's awesome work how this could be achieved! The key is stacking the zones, doing airplane crashes on purpose, etc. This would be pointless for a time attack, but I think that's a nice info that over 1mio. can be (easily) done with some knowledge about the game.

I think it involves crashing an airplane into anything that can't be stacked normally. (Airports, Ports, Power Plants, ect.) and making sure the fire stops when there's only 1 square of that building left. Incredibly hard to do right, and you might as well try the lottery if you can do it on everything without savestates to try again.

Right, like GSGold explained it. See what someone has done on the freedom map, lets call it metrolopolis deluxe: http://www.superplayers.de/danielviebrock/simcity/1273660.jpg That was done with the unlimited gifts cheat, mainly because it's way faster to reach more citizens. Simply replace the Police/Fire HQ's (they are shrinked to 1 square if you can't see them ;) ) with Police Departments and the other gifts with Park land. Perfect would be each building (R/C/I) of only 2 squares size and fully developed....ok lets stop dreaming ;).

Hehe.. Really nice. :D Someone make a try at it and post the resulting vid? See ya in a year or two then. Haha! Seems like it's very time consuming.

Don't laugh because I will do a run. I'm really serious. Let's begin, what map should I use. If it's a random map, which name should I use. I must know what should I do to beat the WR of 2Y11M. After reaching the 500 000 people, I want to reach the 600 000 since I have never seen it. When started, I'm gonna do it step by step and post the link of the movie file. So you'll gonna give me some advice. I'm waiting your answers.

From what I hear, map 61 has the most land area. Though there was a bug to change the topography of any map, I don't think these were taken into consideration.

So is map 61 better than Freedom scenario map? We must beat that WR. I don't want to do something that can't beat that.

Where have you read about that WR? I've done it in 2y8m (or 2y7m at the end!?) on the freedom map I think. You have to play on the slowest speed in order to get 1 or 2 more 'roll-over' of the population-counter each year or so....can't remember exactly. That's why I've canceld my Sim City run for show but... I've done a frame-perfect run without pausing the game (because the ingame time doesn't run as long as you are holding a button)! Map 61 is the best random map, haven't tried for record there but I think it would be slower because you have to get some gifts to get 500k.

Does any one have a temp run of this? I wanna see progress. And yes. 61 has most land out of all maps in this game. I just wanna set that straight. Hmm.. Free land doesn't have any water right? Does that really matter anyways? Will they need an "Anchor building/Boat base, harbor" in free land?

You can put the sea port anywhere on the map, and it still counts. I'd love to see a run of this, as I've never been able to reach 500k. I just played earlier today on 61, and my highest count was a little bit over 350k. I wanna see how it's done!

One couldn't play on Freedom in a savestate run unless they were willing to complete the other 7 or so scenarios anyway...

We could use a savestate. I don't see what's wrong using a savestate then start Freedom map since I don't aim for fastest real time but in game time..

I used to own that game. I think once you complete all the senerios, it gives you a map of 100% land. Once you get a Megalopolis, the game gives you a statue of mario to put in your city. My best strategy for building a city on this game was putting all the industrial buildings along the outside of the city, then commercial along the industrials, and residential in the center.

I think a run of this would be interesting. I'd love to see how best to lay out a city.

If memory serves me correctly, Freedom doesn't have city gifts cos it's a scenario.

I think that has already been discussed if you read the entire thread. :)
