This feature just seemed to be there one day without any discussion on it, so I thought I'd start one. 1) There seems to be no way to list all recommended movies. This would probably be a good idea to have as an obvious link for first-time visitors, plus you could sneak in some info on about how the movies are made on the same page. 2) There currently is no way for editors to change the recommended status. Is this an oversight, or a deliberate choice? I can see the reasons for it being be the latter. If so, is there any way to make suggestions on which movies to reccomend, or is it decided purely by dictatorship? For the record, my opinions are: Remove Princess only-SMB2 Remove Castlevania 4 Add Zelda Add Metroid Add Sonic 3 & Knuckles Possibly: Add Mega Man X

I have been a little baffled by the recommendations as well. IMO Zelda, HnF, Metroid and DKC(both movies) definitely deserve to have that little star. And how about SMB? I wouldn't rob SCV4 of it's star, though. That's one hell of a movie.

I'll remove the star from the Princess-only movie. I'm uncertain of the other suggestions. The movie should be able to impress even those who don't know the game, and Zelda and Metroid are very hard to judge for those who don't know them. I won't give SMB a star either, because the movie is more or less straightforward, and it looks too obvious. If you don't know the current non-toolassisted world record of a SMB, you can't even know how impressive the movie is. It requires external knowledge. I don't remember adding a star for SCV4, and I don't remember giving Phil the power to do that... Hmm. The core idea of the star is "this movie is promotional material for this site". But I'm open for arguments.

I agree that Sonic 3 should have a star.

I don't think editors should be able to add stars freely either. I'd been hoping for a rating system in which everybody can contribute, on a number scale, what they think of a certain movie, whose mean would be presented in each movie's table. That would allow everyone a say in which movies are "favorites", so that for example, movies with a rating greater than 8 out of 10 show up on the "best" list. But the current solution is very easy to implement, and works in the meantime.

Indeed - I wanted it up quickly, but a rating system is still the aim. And yeah, I added & removed a couple of "stars", and added a link to the front page listing all the best.

I'm not much of a fan of the asymmetrical, very homemade looking icon either, heh. Perhaps we could just rob the star from the SMB series?

Bisqwit: >The movie should be able to impress even those who don't know the game, and Zelda and Metroid are very hard to judge for those who don't know them. This is true but most people have probably played Zelda and Metroid. >I won't give SMB a star either, because the movie is more or less straightforward, and it looks too obvious. If you don't know the current non-toolassisted world record of a SMB, you can't even know how impressive the movie is. It requires external knowledge. I agree with this. But when I looked at the new recommendations page, one was magically there anyway. Change of heart? :) Blechy: >I don't think editors should be able to add stars freely either. I agree. That would probably result in a mess in no time. I can settle for dictatorship on this one, especially since I know we have a competent dictator. The voting idea is good too. It's possible to have both, of course...

I watched the movie again and I concluded that it can have a star after all, especially because of 8-4. :) Similarly, I gave a star for Metroid and Zelda as well. The description explains everything necessary. So much for that competence ;) Edit: I rewatched HnF a bit and I agree it looks unconventional enough to be promotional material. However, the movie description should be edited a bit first... To better introduce the movie for those who don't know the game at all.

oh............. that's a great feature on the site, bisqwit, congrats, i think it's one more reason for the submitters to strive for perfection, and most importantly, give the most amazing videos proper recognition :) thumbs up!

Heh, I almost pointed this movie out last night before I left IRC, mainly because of the crazy grappling.

Hmm, I think you should offer something from each of the consoles. It's mostly NES stuff right now, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles...Streets of Rage 2, both DKC movies, and Contra 3 all may be worth adding as they are excellent runs of familiar classic games. Possibly others I'm forgetting. And I agree that HnF should be added. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

DKC and HnF can be considered. Of the other suggestions, I'm not so sure. If I don't enjoy the movie much myself, I don't feel like I can recommend it to others.

I strongly recommend Hitler no Fukkatsu (a.k.a. Japanese Bionic Commando) for "recommended" status. Mega Man X is another good one, although is that being improved again? EDIT: Whoa, Rockman 2 is not "recommended?" What up with that?

Yeah, Rockman 2 should most def be on the list; it's a classic here. Will be even more so once Morimoto gets the next version together... Probably Ninja Gaiden 3 as well, once it's published. (And I really have no doubt it will be, 'cause the wall-jumps and boss fights are, like, o_O')

I think MMX2 and MM7 should both be on the list, they were excellent.

Should we take a vote on these "recommendations?" Create a poll topic? Or is this, ultimately, Bisqwit's decision because it's his website?

I enjoy this feature as well, though I prefer Sleepz's Zelda run to Phil's, and think someone first coming to the site will be turned off to the time attacking movement by watching Phil's video. Why? Phil's video looks needlessly and intentionally artificial, which, unlike in a movie like Gradius, is not the point.
