Browsing looking for a movie recording megadrive emulator, I found this site http://mrdario.tripod.com/plugins/plugins.htm (DEAD LINK) it has some plugins and a program that allows you to make a video of a playstation game played in epsxe, i have already tried it and it looks very promising, for example, using that program you don't seem to need the game in order to replay the movie, this can be good if you don't have the game but also the movies are way larger than any other input recording i've seen (ie 17 megs a 50 seconds movie with sound), mainly cause it does not record input but (i think) it just record the instructions decoded by the gpu and spu, also it supports rerecording!!!! so maybe someone will be able to do a perfect Simphony of the night run, it doesn't look viable to distribute the recorded files via the internet cause the are way too big, but after finishing a perfect run you can always capture an avi for easier distribution. EDIT by feitclub: Link no longer works, sorry.

Thats pretty cool. Unfortunatly, most psx will be boring, because they are too long.

I prefer watching MegaMan X on PSX than that boring MegaMan 1 on NES.Unfortunately it creates too large files so I'll continue NES until Zsnes will be released.

In case anyone was curious, I've been exploring these options and so far, so good. I'm using ePsxe, a freeware emulator. All of the plugins listed at the above site seem to work on it, as the PS Emu Pro has been discontinued. The re-recording feature absolutely works. As a test, I recorded myself fighting Dracula at the beginning of Castlevania: SOTN. It looks pretty cool, if I say so myself.

I tried to make a time attack for Simphony of the Night using those tools, but i found out first that it would be a lot of work planning and trying things to speed everything up and second, i got to the first Doppelganger and after watching the video i decided to stop cause it wasn't by far as good looking as for example the nes Castlevania time attack.

nes games are simpler, and are more "pixel based", i don't think playstation movies should be done same way. it will take a lot of skill to make good psx movies as you will have to really know how to play the game.

i have playedaround SOTN a few times now, a few times usual, in luck mode and as richter, replayed bosses a few times. i guess if i planned alot i could do a run on it. =) (you only need the rapier and you don't need a new weapon in a while)

I think a Richter run should be done first. It's the shortest and easiest to plan a route for.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

I've spent a *lot* of time playing Castlevania: SOTN. I've personally beaten the game in under an hour. It's been a while, but I recall my time at last save being 0:55. A TG thread here discusses a particular person's speedrun of this game. In a sub-hour run, you spend the majority of your time (35-40 minutes) in the first castle. I know of two tricks that can help save time in this part: . It's possible to do a dive kick without the Leap Stone. You can bounce off enemies to reach higher areas with this. . You can get the Silver Ring without the Spike Breaker Armor. The trick involves exploiting the invulnerability Alucard has when he casts a spell. If anyone's interested in recording a speedrun or timeattack of this game, I'd be happy to help out with route planning and whatever tricks I know.

you can get to the clock-tower section just with the wolf power. go to the elevator, get wolf, keep going up, then take the passage with the braking bridges to the left, do the regular run/ jump/jump to get to the other side. then inside the clock there is a big jump that can't be made, but let a medusa head hit you and you will be on the upper side. get to the last stairs of all castlevania games from here. you can reach the top of the broken staircase by jumping on the crows/harpies/i don't remember what were those flying things under the stairs. i've gotten to touch the upper part of the stairs, but it's extremely hard to do on the real game. i think on a re-recording emulator it would be very rewarding to get up there so early in the game, and it IS possible. i think will take 5 crows to be able to get high enough. need to walk left to gather crows, then go back to the right to bring them under the broken stairs. then start crow-climbing.

I've mentioned this rerecording ability several times in the chat toom, heh. Too bad I never thought of making a topic for it. Well, anyway, I was trying out a few different games with this and I think I'd like to try an Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee run. That game is nearly impossible, so seeing someone blaze through the game would be most rewarding. Also, I don't think there's a way to resume an already started movie, so some longer games will need to have segmented runs if the author wishes to retain their sanity.

Given the large size of these replay files, I think any run will have to be segemented. My trial time attack on Dracula only takes a few minutes but the file is 56MB!

Not really, is pretty much imposible to make a run with those tools and distribute it on the net, i think the best way would be to directly distribute an avi of it. Btw the first Oddworld is one of my favourite games ever, but it's so freaking difficult that i only finished it once although is one of the best psx games i own.

I'm definitely gonna explore the possibilities this opens for Metal Gear Solid. ... IF I get it running on ePSXe, anyway. Seems to freeze before I even see the Konami logo.

There is already a run for Abe's Oddysee out there some where. I know I have seen it because I played this for PC alot. And I was just stunned about this. Can't remember where I found it though. Check TDA or www.archive.org.

damn.. this plugin is *crap*.. it makes epsxe waaay to choppy (no thanks, i'll go back to Pete's) it also makes a output video corrupted (tried with xvid codec). I have not yet seen "rerecording" feature, did this guy typed "Rere" by mistake?

No, re-recording is not a typo. I made a demonstration vid of the beginning of Castlevania: SOTN.

This plugin generates movies in its own format, not a conventional one used nowadays.
